I watched it on a random whim only knowing that it won an award. After watching it I realized why it deserved that award and the many nominations. Amazing show!!
I will forever hold that s1e7 - Defiant Jazz is one of the best episodes of TV ever made. Also the humor of the show gets funnier the more times you watch it.
My jaw hit the floor at that hallway scene. My wife was laughing at how in awe I was because to her it was nothing, but I kept telling her it was so amazing. Fun to hear Chris call it out. S2E1 was awesome.
popular among the very few who watched it. not mainstream at all. nobody was talking about it on social media or on talk shows, everybody was complaining that Apple tv was not promoting it and that's completely true. Now it's getting real exposure on all fronts luckily.
@@kousetsuhana Maybe in your friend circle no one watched it? @bill is right- it was incredibly popular, and promoted extensively by Apple. Its not exactly an unknown indie show.
@@ChrisLoos1true, but it also isn’t exactly at the peak of the cultural zeitgeist in the way that shows like Stranger Things, Game of Thrones, The Last of Us, Succession, etc. have been. I think that’s going to change very soon and it’s going to become “the show” that everyone (even casual TV watchers) are talking about.
@@ChrisLoos1what we mean is that this show hasn’t reached the heights of series like squid game or stranger things where literally everyone is talking about it
When i watched the first season, it had been out a while and no one i knew was watching it. It blew my mind with how well it was made. I've really been looking forward to S2
@@SillyAIMan I also rewatched the show the past few weeks in preparation for S2 (it has been 3 years after all), and it was like i watched it with a new set of eyes. So many things that i didn't realize in my first watch, were suddenly there on my rewatch. I also felt completely different in perspective about everything that happened, especially in season 1, where on the first show i was fully in Helly's perspective, asking myself "the fuck is going on", whereas in the rewatch i was more in line with Mark's point of view, and i learned more about Lumon through that. This show is nothing short of brilliant. Now I'm fully diving into all of the theories, and I'm seeing just how much stuff glanced over me in the first watch, whereas with all of the analyses from fans i am able to understand was more than is at face value
Ya ever since he decided not to do negative reviews because he himself is now a film maker and doesn't want to put down other film makers. It feels like that's when the change happened. I'm not saying that's the reason, but that's when I started to notice what you're mentioning. He stopped making as many reviews, and I don't know if that was for that reason, or if he was busy making his movie and just didn't have the time to see as many movies and therefore didn't have time to make reviews either. Or he didn't get to fully enjoy them because he was exhausted. Who knows? But I agree that I haven't felt that love of a film or show that he really got into breaking it down
The Enthusiasm and love for the form he must have gotten from Shelby oaks can change your perspective from critical and analytical to wayyyy more open minded. I understand from growing up with channels like this that making a good movie is nigh impossible, making a GREAT movie takes a village and some divine ass luck and timing. I love the change tbh art is subjective 🙏🏻
@BobbyM817 I've been watching him for probably 6 or 7 years. He use to really break down movies. And there were a lot more reviews, but obviously there's not as many new movies in theaters these days either. But anyways, I'm pretty well aware of how he is in videos. Not sure how long you've been watching but there's a huge difference in his videos pre-shelby oaks.
@@BobbyM817 Really? Put your hand to your chest and tell me you genuinely feel that this is still the Chris Stuckmann of old. I watch his videos regularly, and it feels like he sleepwalks through the reviews these days-just lightly caressing the surface to ensure it can still be labeled as a review. Not to mention the endless ads that now take up two-thirds of his videos. It's a far cry from what he used to deliver.
I think a lot of these comedians have great cinematic sensibility when it comes to directing. Bill Hader(Barry), Ben Stiller(Severance)Jordan Peele(Get out) Look at their work. All at the top of their game. Exciting stuff
I subscribed Apple TV just for this show. My favourite show on TV right now. Can't wait to see what happens next! The wait from season 1 to 2 was torture after that insane ending.
This show really opened my eyes to Adam Scott. I've always liked the guy for his comedy, but he is a DAMN good actor. Genuinely blown away by him in this show. Tremendous dramatic undertaking
I started to watch this last week after finishing Silo. I thought nothing could ever fill that gap left by Season 2, but holy helllll Severance has just hijacked my mind. Only on episode 2, but you just know from the title sequence that this is a cerebral show. 10/10 so far!
I'm glad you talked about that opening shot. They left us at season end with our onions in their hand and then started this season with a bang reminding us they still had our onions firmly in grasp! In that moment I knew we were in good hands for this season when they would take time to put together a wonderful first shot like that. Bravo!!!!
Season 1 finale of severance was one of the best ever too. Loved that transitional zzzzzzppp when they switch between the innie on the outside wordls characters.
Also thank you Apple for dropping episodes weekly. I love how we are all collectively theorizing and discussing the show and it adds to the mystery and suspense of the show.
YESSSS CHRIS YESSS !!! Been a fan of this show for two years now and it's return is the most excited I've been for a show in... idk, my whole life maybe.
I refused to get another streaming service but I got the opportunity for a free 3 month trial and binged this show and I was very satisfying watching Season 1 finale and immediately watching Season 2 premiere without having to wait 2 years! I’m a huge Lost fan and this fits right in.
Yeah gives me the same vibes as Stranger Things in that they are mini movies rather than a series … but I love it that way, Severance has to be one of the greatest tv series I’ve ever seen, watched it multiple times and every time is still amazed about how well it holds up
When I was younger I had no interest in seeing it, then like 8 or so years ago a friend of mine made me watch it and it surprised the hell out of me. Its a great flick
Dude its been my obsession since the first season. An original new series and its peak television imo. We need more shows of this quality. This is what I expect now with new series.
I love Severance! Thanks for covering it, finally. Since you loved Hannibal, you could check out is Interview with the Vampire (2022), an underwatched show that is highly recommended by Mike Flanagan. It's one of the best shows in the last decade, no exaggeration: brilliant acting, writing, production quality.
I only started hearing about it two weeks ago so me and my wife started watching season one and watched it in two days and bloody loved it. Season two is pretty good as well so far. I really wish Ben Stiller would do a very serious horror movie or historical drama. I would be all over it.
I consider this one of the best TV shows ever created and have tried recommending it to my friends. Unfortunately, most of them didn’t seem interested. I’m glad to see the show finally gaining mainstream success!
I was slow to get into season 1 but was hooked eventually. This episode started as strongly as season 1 ended. And my mouth was agape at the opening running shot. While less cerebral and existential as “who am I?”, Silo on Apple TV is also phenomenal.
Great show. Just hearing the plot doesn't do it justice, there is so much going on. The actors all do an incredible job acting as their Innies and outies
Someone was given a screener of the first three episodes, and they said the cliffhanger on episode three was so good and so intense that they are dying for episode four so I’m very excited for this season
