Mannion was one of the best players in high school, even in college had had a standout freshman season. But the NBA was a different story for these reasons
I think a conversation needs to be had about GSW’s player development. Yes they hit on some players(Draymond, Klay, Jordan Poole), but they’ve missed badly with some players that I thought were ready. They didn’t develop Nico, nor did they develop James Wiseman. Kuminga’s story is still going but from what I’ve seen, they aren’t really developing him either. Seems like if you come to Golden State, you have to be ready immediately. They’re trying to squeeze one more championship out of Steph so much that they are missing out on being a sustainable contender after Steph!
@ got it. But if the entire league has pretty much copied your style of play, maybe they need to innovate & change the game again. Everyone is doing the Warriors better than the Warriors‼️
I played against him in high school all the time. He is the real deal! Yall should have seen the game where he hit a buzzer to beat shadow mountain (yea, that team w jalen house and jovan blacksher). Ending their 4 year long winning streak. It was wild. He gave them their only high school loss ever. that’s when i knew he was him
He went the furthest of the hoopers that came out of pinnacle so far. I played at Paradise Valley imma old head I was class of 08 I knew all them i remember them as kids lol j house, bibby jr, Dane etc they was nice as youngins for sure
nico was him in HS. went the right path. he just got really really sick and in that process wasn't hooping and fell out. At that time the game was moving super fast and instead of playing in the G he decided to play overseas. I think he used his nationality and played in like Italy. Nico was super good . his issue was him getting deathly sick.
I honestly think if he wouldve went to another team they may have developed him more. The Warriors arent looking to develop and use their talent especially at pg as long as steph is there. Every thing they do revovles around steph so they arent going to invest too much into another guard. Even woth JP, yes he showed potential but potential doesnt mean anything when your vets want something. If they really were trying to build for the future they wouldve gotten rid of dray and drafted lamelo. He just went to an organization that wasnt ready for the next group of talent.
Agreed I remember him in college, I think he should have not went to the warriors at that time especially them being a guard heavy team he should have went to a mediocre team or just went to the g League and try to get into the NBA by that route
And the video was showing him dunking on some people while he was talking about Nico's lack of athleticism, too lol. It's still different in the NBA, even if you have good athleticism, but if somebody who didn't know Nico's game actually listened to this video, then they would think he couldn't even dunk. Nah, buddy has bunnies for real.
I see what he is saying The NBA athleticism standard is a lot different from the college and HS level .. I’m pretty athletic for a 5’9 guard (can dunk catch lobs and putback dunks) but if i was in the nba there’s a different level especially due to guys being 6’6 and up that can jump just like the small guards
THUNDER could've really developed him the right way , especially because the thunder at that time were in a hole he could've been a sleeper pick with Josh giddey that year
Of all teams for him to get drafted into it had to be the warriors. He’s shorter than curry and didn’t have better playmaking ability which meant he had no chance from the beginning. It also didn’t help that he got an intestinal infection that derailed his 1st year outside of the league. From what I remember reading he chose to go to Italy so he could develop and go back for a second stint. I believe he could still carve out a role if given the opportunity but unfortunately the nba is a tough environment for those chances.
He looked great physically when he played in the 2023-2024 Summer League for the Milwaukee Bucks and played fairly well and had a couple of really good games. I know he started a couple of games in that league. I watched him play and was very impressed on how much he improved his strength, speed, skills, body and game. He had a really nice facial dunk against the Nuggets too in that summer league that could be number one on a top 10 play of the day list. I'm surprised you didn't mention any of that part of his story in your video.
From what i remember...Mannion chose himself to leave so he could play more and woukd consider going back to the NBA later. Good luck to him though. Probably should've stayed in college another year and gotten stronger.
5 star ⭐️ recruit, McDonald’s All American and Mr. Basketball 🏀 are accolades that lead to a NBA career. The players are not a finish NBA article and the G League can’t develop them into it. 1 and done is not for everyone. I believe that players should develop in the college system . I know that staying longer is a stunted growth now. One and done is for the very few like Derick Rose, AD, Zion Williams and Trae Young. This one and done college basketball is giving us hyped players with major and fundamental basketball flaws making stunted growth a platform on UA-cam with never ending content.
Man this video is waaaay off. Nico is a good athlete and raw ally had no flaws in his game. U don't need to be Russell Westbrook or John wall to be effective in the nba. His 3 Stunts were leaving school too soon, getting drafted by the warriors, and not shooting the ball well enough when he needed to. That's why I think he shoulda got 1 more year in at zona. Did he get sick when he was in the nba or after?? Must've been after.
@@dlrichardson56 I said 2 out of 3 is f what you said. Going to the warriors, not having a skill like shooting I mentioned. But I do agree that leaving school at the time hindered both. Caused him to go second round. Definitely could’ve used that one. But seeing as I’ve used that so often in the past, I didn’t want to with him. You’re right, I should mentioned it though
Follow the trend- the NBA has an agenda and keeps out smaller/athletic white guards. Only if they're 6'5 and above. Look at Nico (who is a fine athlete), look what they've done to super blue chip athletes like Mac, and Reed Sheppard keeping them in the G league...Peyton Pritchard who could start on 1/2 the NBA teams is forced to stay as a backup. Also, the best guards in college, take Braden Smith and Ryan Padulla this year from Purdue, will not get drafted. DeVincenzo could've started on the Knicks next to Brunson, but they shipped him to be a backup on Minnesota. Ryan D'Arcano is a backup- he won the national title for Villanova and was the best player on that team. TJ McConnell- backup. They only start Euro guards and they have to be 6'5 or above. Tyler Herro is kind of an exception, but he's really a 2 guard. This nonsense, copout BS argument- with "they can't guard anyone" - NO ONE guards anyone in the NBA, and no one could guard these guys either!!!!!
If he had “a high basketball IQ,” why couldn’t he figure out he needs to defend to be a success at the NBA a level? Could it be because he was a privileged, spoiled ……? He had every opportunity, but chose not to improve.
I’m sorry but you’re getting lazy with the channel, from the same old music to the players you pick, you used to really be stunted growth now you’re just the bust channel
IMO a bust is a top 5 player that doesn't live up to expectations. I can't consider a 48th pick a bust when the average career in the NBA is 3 seasons. His career is the norm of regular players in the NBA.
