    Thanks for watching, gang! I guess my poor playing was at least good enough to get a copyright strike. 😑 I'll be sharing any revenue from this video with Pink Floyd. 😛

    I love both guitars. I think the Telecaster is the most versatile guitar I’ve ever played! The Rickenbacker is a wonderful guitar but definitely a bit more niche. But great sounds and great players using it!

    The first group of chords you played on the Rickenbacker sounded like the Who song,"the kids are all right "

    I love both. They're versatile instruments. Jim Babjak from the Smithereens used Rics on a lot of their stuff. He also uses a Tele.

    The RIc has this "plang" that makes it easier to get that old school garage sound... Just listen to Tom Petty "Into the great wide open."

    Absolutely love the rickenbacker tone it's got something that no other guitar has .
    But then the telecaster is the same too with its tome but it's still minus the Rick secret ingredient.
    I have a rick 325 and telecaster and they sit on their stands and I sometimes look at them and just admire them as works of art bcause they are .
    Great video

    Nice to hear you proud it correctly; it's Ricken-BACK-er. Short "A" sound. Not Ricken-baaaahhhk-er. No long "A" sound. "Wish You were here" sounded great.

    I came here to hear a Rickenbacker compared to a Fender after watching a video of Radiohead live where Thom plays a Rickenbacker during the song “Lucky.” When you played an A minor chord it sounded just like Karma Police. Sure enough, Ed plays a Rickenbacker on Karma Police

    Hi Bradley, put guitar sounds to tobacco blends. The Telecaster on bridge pick-up is definitely Elizabethan Mixture.

    The Telecaster is anything but a “one trick pony.” Maybe not the ideal choice for death metal, but jazz, classic rock, blues, hard rock are all covered with the stock single coils.

    Great vid -- love 'em both. They're so different! For recording at home, my American Tele is much more conventionally "versatile" than a Rick, and it has for funky rhythm playing more of a whip-like snap that cuts through mixes. The Rick brings the sound of its tone woods to the foreground. It sounds much more organic and natural -- more maple forest than sandy beach.

    As it happens the Ric 330 and Professional Tele are my last two guitars. Played Rics extensively and there is nothing like them in tone, looks or vibe. Personally I find them a little awkward and the necks a little thin so made the switch for the Professional Telecaster. I think it's my favourite guitar I've ever owned since the nineties. There is a lot of crossover in sounds between the two but for me the sheer comfort and adaptability of the Tele gives it the edge, there's really nothing to fault it on and nothing it can't do, and it's far from a one-trick pony in my book! Happy playing, nice little set-up you got there. :)

    • @stuffandthingsyoutube
      @stuffandthingsyoutube  4 роки тому +1

      The Ric DOES have a pretty narrow neck! I had gotten used to it and didn't really think about it anymore until I got the Tele. You're right though, both great guitars!

    Honestly in my experience you can use all guitars for pretty much anything, i mean back then all rockstars and musicians just used what they had on hand. Sure some guitars may be better in one context or another but ultimately nothing is stopping you from playing anything on anything

    For anyone wondering, these guitars sound completely different through different amps and mics. They are electric guitars and this is a very low-gain example. No one would ever sound like this in a band with a drummer.

    Well done sir. A nice analysis. I prefer the warmer tones of the Strat myself, but a couple of my favorite blues-rock guitarists (Jimmy Page and Billy Gibbons) did some of their best work on the Tele. Actually, your video is very helpful for me since I've long considered whether I'd like to own a Tele and your video was very instructive.

    You a fan of Tom Petty at all? He had a lot of the 'jangly' kind of sounds in his songs and he used a ton of Teles and Rickenbackers in his music throughout his career. I agree both have a wider range than given credit. Mary Jane's Last Dance, however, sounds perfect on the Tele with the pickups set to bridge.

    Not playing any musical instrument myself, nor claiming to have any kind of special ear for music, I def. preferred the overall tone (AND versatility) of the Telecaster over the Rickenbacker.... and def. preferred the middle position on both.... not to say either one is necessarily superior, per say.... just my preference, from a listener's perspective. ;-) Great video man.... nice to see some of your other hobbies being presented on your channel as well. ;-)

    • @dparis2172
      @dparis2172 4 роки тому

      I share your lofty music credentials but I thought the Rickenbacker in the neck position sounded best of all. It seemed more melodic and acoustic. Maybe that's why Wish You Were Here sounded better on the Ric. I think Radiohead uses Rickenbacker and maybe that's why it sounded better on that piece too.
      The Telecaster was shrill and more mechanical sounding on everything. I've seen other videos where the Telecaster sounds much better than it does here. It did sound good doing Iron Man, though.

    You have an eye for quality bud. No question. Used to jam with a dude who played a rickenbaker bass. I’d never seen one until he brought it over. This was back in the 80’s. Guy was a Brit, so I figured it was a British thing. My guitarists played Gibson and fender. I spotted that baby during an early pipe review a few years back and thought, “Holy crap!” If I were up there, I’d say “Call me!” If you need a drummer.

    The Tele puts the Rick to shame for versatility. That being said, Rick's are good for what they do. After 8 years in the guitar business, I never understood the draw...BYMMV

    • @keithclark486

      8 years in the business is not enough for you to understand' the main thing is ' don't be repeating what others say .... Because you don't know if they've been in the business long enough either, So that being said ' you should buy every style of guitar made and play them 25/30 year's and you'll understand.
