    I really like this video. I have been using this for a few days and the SSD is so much snappier than the micro SD card. However, I did have an issue with my swapfile still on the SD. There was a swapfile called swfile setup by jtop on the SD card before I got the SSD. With the SSD install jtop was still looking at that old swfile. I uninstalled the swfile on the SD card and then used jtop to create a new swfile that was written to the new SSD. Now I have 4GB of zram and set up 2GB of additional swap space on the SSD.

    Thank you for share your knowledge. This is a big help. But in this video you mentions at around 01:18 that the Jetson NX PCIe is 3 Gen. Maybe that is for the Wifi m.2. But I order a Samsung Pro 980 1TB M.2 SSD that is PCIe 4 Gen. and followed your instructions. I was able to bechmark the Samsung SSD with more than 7000MB/s read!. I don’t know if this woul conclude that the NX has M.2 PCIe 4 Gen. for the SSD slot. But I’m very happy with the performance.

    We, the audience sure do appreciate people like you who can connect us and introduce to this unknown, unmapped, twilight-zone type area called High-Tech and Ubuntu and Software and Jetpacks and.... other strange and undefined words. Hi Jim how are you doing?.
    I've noticed that Jetpack 4.6 was released and in the key features Nvidia mentioned :
    - "NVMe driver added to CBoot for Jetson Xavier NX and Jetson AGX Xavier series. Enables loading kernel, kernel-dtb and initrd from the root file system on NVMe".
    Nevertheless after reviewed the documentation is not clear yet for me how to start using this capability to install Jetpack 4.6 on an NVMe for Xavier NX.
    I will really appreciate you take a look and if possible make one of your spectacular down to earth tutorials so the community could start boot and work with Xavier NX directly from NVMe drives.

    Most effective way to copy from sd card to NVMe drive is to flash the new image using
    # sudo dd bs=1M if=your_image_file_name.img of=/dev/nvme0

    • @JetsonHacks
      @JetsonHacks  6 місяців тому

      It depends on the case, and how it handles the fan of the NX versus the passive heat sink of the Nano. Also, the NX has a plastic base which holds the antenna, the Nano does not. Typically you need to remove the plastic base, and use a different mounting method for the antenna. Good luck on your project, and thanks for watching!

    Isn't the 16GB eMMC for the specific purpose of replacing the uSD card as the boot device, because it is much faster and less vulnerable? 🤔 Then, as you have demonstrated, everything else ideally runs on the NVMe SSD?
    Shouldn't the question be, "How can we make the eMMC the boot device, instead of the microSD reader?"😎

    • @JetsonHacks
      @JetsonHacks  4 роки тому

      I do not understand what you are stating. The Xavier NX module on the developer kit does not have eMMC. The production module Xavier NX has eMMC instead of SD. eMMC and SD cards are about the same speed, they both are the same type of flash memory.

    • @TheOleHermit
      @TheOleHermit 4 роки тому

      @@JetsonHacks Yes, I saw that distinction on Nvidia's website, as well. But, if you look at the Xavier NX module specs, it indicates 16 GB eMMC.

      It also states, "Jetson Xavier NX is production-ready and supports all popular AI frameworks."
      Confusing, isn't it? I'll check lsblk to determine whether my NX module has eMMC.
      Update: 'lsblk' indicates that the eMMC doesn't exist, so I apologize to everyone for the misinformation.

    Does the Carmel CPU in the Xavier NX also support armhf / ARM 32 Bit? I would like to buy this device for emulation and gaming purposes and box86 would make it possible to also emulate x86 Windows games, however box86 only works on 32 Bit environments, requiring an armhf chroot on the Xavier NX.
    I have looked through some lscpu results online but the lscpu version on the Xavier seems to be older and therefore does not display if the CPU supports 32 Bit OP-Mode aswell.

      I do not have any experience with Microsoft WSL, so I don't have anything to share. If you can run the NVIDIA SDK Manager, there are options so that you can boot the Jetson from the SSD. However, the SDK manager probably has issues with USB pass through also. NVIDIA is pretty much set on using an Ubuntu machine.

    Hello Jim,
    I followed your video and was stopped at this statement :
    "Once this service is installed, the rootfs will be on the SSD. If you upgrade to a newer version of L4T using OTA updates (using the NVIDIA .deb repository), you will need to also apply those changes to the SD card that you are booting from.
    Typically this involves copying the /boot* directory and /lib/modules// from the SSD to the SD card. If they are different, then modules load will be 'tainted', that is, the modules version will not match the kernel version."
    being a noob, I checked for usage of cp, but I found rsync,
    can you confirm that rsync will keep the two folders the same ?
    is this the correct syntax ?
    rsync -av /lib/modules/ /media/agx/af76a8c6-61d8-4b97-9bfe-cb0da14f9a74/lib/modules/

      The SD card is not being used for anything other than booting. The SSD is faster than a SD card, so anytime you are using the SSD, it is faster than the SD card.
