He smiles quite a bit in AC/C actually. You have to keep your eyes peeled though lol. For example, when he's about to grab Tifa's hand in the big fight with Bahamut, if you put on slow motion you see him smile before he gets to her.
Sure, I don't think anyone can bluntly argue Cloud couldn't have had feelings for Aerith. He certainly could have done. The point is that Cloud ends with Tifa in the end. It all started with Tifa, Tifa was then key to bring the real him back and this real him was the one in love with Tifa all along. It was only the mixed up Zackish/Jenova Cloud that ever interacted with Aerith and he broke. So in summary, the real Cloud loves Tifa and always has done. That was a big part of the story arc.
you should try to play the game. i have never played the original unfortunate;y (yet) but i have played Crisis Core, where you do get to see them for a bit.. very good game. oh and IF you want to watch the movie, make sure you watch Advent Children COMPLETE!!
No offense to Tifa/Cloud pairing fans but all they had were childhood memories... As a FF7 gamer, I always notice that Cloud wants Aerith more than anything or anyone (including Tifa) Call it guilt of letting Aerith get killed but I think Cloud fell for her when they met, all the flirtings Aerith did got to him thats a part of the reasons why Cloud has an intense sadness of not being able to have Aerith
