Been using the brush for years but never knew the secret power of the auto mask till now. Thank you!! You're a genius
You are so welcome! It is just amazing what you can do with that little feature. Thanks for the comment.
A very nice thorough review of this tool nice presentation
Thanks. Glad it helped out. Thanks for the comment!
Another homerun, Mickey! I really enjoy and learn some very useful techniques from your tutorials.
Thank you sir. Glad I can be of help. Thanks for the comment!
Excellent Mickey. The best lesson on using the brush I have found. Many thanks
Glad it was helpful! That is what I thought too…not much out there on the brush tool. Thanks for the comment.
I have watched quite a few tutorials on this same subject and by far, yours it much better!! 👏👏
Wow, thanks! I appreciate the compliments. Thanks for the comments.
Thank you; well explained and easy to follow.

Glad it was helpful! Thanks for the comment.
A fabulous demo. You addressed a lot of unknowns for me. Thank you.
My pleasure! Glad it could help you out. Thanks for the comment.
@@easternshorephotoinstruction I have often thought that I could not dodge and burn in LR as well as I could in photoshop. I was wrong. Your video clearly shows how to do that. I may take it one step further. I will dodge and burn areas as you have shown with the brush tool and then intersect that with a luminosity mask in order to control the tones that are affected. You now have me thinking creatively.
That is an excellent plan. I want to give that a try too. I have done it from just plain ol' painting with a brush without any masking to .... masking with my full effect in place and then intersecting with the brush to bring out just the amount of the effect I needed. I have also done kind what you are trying with luminosity EXCEPT I do it with the color range masking. The methods you can do this are endless. Good tip! Thanks for the comment.
Very helpful video thank you :-) M
You're welcome! Glad to help out. Thanks for the comment
Thank you so much for your time and always very well prepared tutorials, we always learn a few new things each time.
I never use LR but Photoshop and Camera RAW which is supposed to be 100% the same as LR but discover now that it is not the case. You have 2 bruhes, CR only shows 1 (+ erase tool). Am I missing something? Thank you.
Very interesting. I have never compared the differences between ACR and LR. I will check that out today and let you know what I find. Thanks for heads up.
I did a little research on Adobe's support and development sites. It appears there is always going to be a "little" difference between ACR and LR. They are built on the same engine but how they implement certain features may differ. I think this is what we are seeing when it comes to how many brush settings we get when comparing LR and ACR.
Thanks for the head up.
Mick
@@easternshorephotoinstruction thank you for your efforts gentleman. It is not a big deal since we have to adopt or adapt many different brushes while working on our pictures. The only difference is that you have always one ready while I have to modify each brush.
Have a very nice evening ( I live in Belgium). Bonsoir et merci.
Have you experienced getting the spinning wheel on a Mac when using the masking tool with the last 3 updates of Lightroom Classic. It does not happen in Camera Raw.
No, I have encountered any spinning wheels as of yet. If it keeps up, give Adobe support a call. I will research the support notes to see if anyone else is experiencing this issue.
@@easternshorephotoinstruction I did call them. They had me put the Graphics Processor in auto. Hopefully it works. Can you share your settings for Performance in Preferences? Thanks
I found an issue in Adobe support which may be related to your issue. Apparently some users are having problems with a large umber of masks on a photo. It seems to slow LR down a bit. Here is the article for you to review. It might not be your exact issue. But it may bode a place to start investigating.
