Talk about perfect timing for a video. My dog ate my wife's ear buds the other day, so I gave her mine. Legit wife excuse to buy some new Headphones! :D
Since this 5-year-old video, things have changed a lot. Macbook Pro since 2021, and all other MacBook models since 2022 (Macbook Air, etc.) are systematically equipped with a high-impedance headphone output. No need for DAC.
For those that prefer semi-open over-ear vs fully open over-ear the K 240 MK II's are awesome as well. An DAC is not mandatory but HIGHLY recommended. Also very light and very comfortable with the same cushions and cables.
I find them extremely disappointing in terms of even accuracy. My mixed always come out quieter than the general volume of other tracks and they're always bass heavy, because the headphones have almost absent bass
Nice! I just picked up a pair S/H from a pawn shop in box new for $60 and they sound great with my Oppo HA-2SE dac/portable amp! The main reason i use them is for music production as i produce deep house and techno and their sound is very flat which is what you want...
I have these and they are great, you don't really need amps, but good if you can. Only problem i have whit them, the cusions are sweat soaks and can stay wet.
Aaron Joshua Chua pretty sure the ones he’s wearing are the 701’s... 701’s have the bumps on the under side of the head band as you see when he holds them to the camera.. 702’s are smooth on the under side of the head band as you can see in the photos... I think...
I apologize ahead of time to all of you who will get in trouble from your spouse for buying these. The good news is you can drown them out with awesome sound from your brand new headphones =)
These headphones do sound great and are fairly comfortable. However, their wiring is trash. I'd recommend doing some digging and you'll find this is common enough issue that I'd avoid them had I known. The solder points break and simple movement of the head causes the wires to move and pull on the connections. Very poor design.
@@dasgeek It's especially common with the more recent ones. Yes, some will never see the issue. I guess I'd most accurately represent its issues to multiple times the normal failure rate of most comparable products in it's market space. This would still be the minority of units, but certainly a lot more than it should be.

The ones DASGeek has are Austrian made (bumps on the headband) so I do believe they should last. I have actually tried both K701 and K702 recently. I wanted a pair of open-backs for mixing. K701 had really huge bass roll off to the point where sub-bass was almost non-existent so I went for K702s which has definitely more bass and they sound better overall imho, don’t believe people who say that the only difference is a detachable cable and color. BUT the build quality of current Chinese made (no bumps on the headband) feels very cheap. It’s really plasticky and each time I was putting them on my head I was worried they would break. I acutally read a lot of good reactions on multiple forums but I didn’t know that most of them were about the Austrian ones. When I got 702s I went on Amazon out of the the curiosity and unfortunately majority of the 3 star and lower reviews mentioned problems with soldering and one of the cups cutting out in less then half a year. That’s bad. So although they sounded good I sent them back and got Beyerdynamic DT990s instead which are killer headphones, built like a tank and sound even better.
Evaluate the quality of a headset, especially from the point of view of its comfort, by putting it on a cap, I find this very strange and not very credible. That's my point of view of course.
I have a set on the way. I hope they are "all that".

Yes K240 are fantastic - II use them for mixing and recording, just love the open sound in these! Really balanced they only lack the low low end
Such a good review man
Thank you so much!
K702s are fantastic.
AKG also make superb microphones.
Red Robbo's Workshop good to know about the mics

Very good review DasApple

BlackDeath Gaming nice they have some incredible gear. My bank will hate you
How would you compare this to the AKG 701s?

182 dollars on amazon atm might pick these up :)
Could they be fakes? Even on eBay they are quite expensive.

Interesting, I’ve not had any issues yet and I’ve been rough with them. Perhaps it was a certain batch.

Didn't you mean to say.....get out there and fill your ears ?
Why do you come up with these brilliant ideas after I recorded :)
I think it is absolutely misleading to say that these headphones have any low end
