  • In this video, I take a domestic hop with Air Greenland from their headquarters in Nuuk to their current international hub located in Kangerlussuaq. The flight is on board the backbone of the airline's domestic fleet, the Dash-8~200, a fun aircraft that speaks for itself.

The weather was a little crumby, but the service was good and the Dash-8 is always fun to ride on no matter what... ENJOY!!!

That looked like a smooth touchdown for sure!

It definitely was. They had a lot of runway with such a small plane, they could really butter the landing

It doesn’t snow in Nuuk most of the year. Mostly the snow is on the ground from October to April. This year we’ve had so little snow that skiers and snowmobiles have been moaning and groaning. It’s May now and all the snow is gone in the city, but there is still snow in places on the mountains.
The DASH seven and later the DASH 8 have been the right planes for Greenland. They revolutionized our air travel from slow helicopters with limited capacity to easier access around the country.
The Sikorsky S-61N helicopter had room for about 20 passengers and would take 2 and a half hours to get to Kangerlussuaq with a stop in Maniitsoq for refueling. The DASH 7 used about an hour, a direct flight with 45 passengers. The DASH 8 is faster, 45 minutes, uses less fuel but can only carry app. 38 passengers.
When the new runway opens in November 2024 we will have direct service by jet from Nuuk to places like Copenhagen, Reykjavik and other destinations. It will revolutionize our air travel in the same way the DASH did. Easier access, better prices and larger air cargo capacity.

I’m really looking forward to seeing what the new runway in Nuuk will do for the city. I know it’s going to be a big big change for them, and I’m also looking to see if people add narrow flights from there to other points outside of Greenland other than just the Denmark route. Icelandair added 737MAX service to Narsarsauq, and I’m wondering if they will do that here as well once that runway opens

I often flew to Exeter or Milan with the Dash-8. I love the sound of their engines. A very nice and reliable aircraft!
    Thank you for sharing. 👋

Yea, I love the Dash-8 and I wish it still flew more in the US. I do miss seeing it fly around

Great you got there! The delays and flight cancellations in Greenland can be major. I had a 7 hrs wait at Kangerlussauq for the 35min Ilulissat flight last week!

Very nice video, by the way, I am from Nuuk, Greenland, and I love to be in Dash-8, one of my favorite small aircraft.
And I love that you are trying to translate Thanks for watching in Greenlandic, it suppose to be 'Qujanaq isiginnaaravit'

Thanks, I appreciate the words! Sorry about the translation, it’s pretty hard to find a site that can translate it, I could only find one and even that wasn’t the greatest… sorry about that 😣

@GerardiAviation it's totally fine, we all make mistakes 😄 and yeah, we are not very close to get proper translations from Greenlandic to English 🥲 but thanks for coming by here to Greenland, hope you're enjoyed your stay 😄

It's curious that this plane respects engine speeds such as 80Hz, then 70Hz then 60 obsession with round numbers, and not 83 76 or 52 or other...

@@GerardiAviation The engine speed is chosen on a few frequencies, and it is the propeller pitch which is adjustable, most often set to 60Hz (we also see it when they stop in a 60Hz video). It's surprising that they choose precise frequencies making round numbers, and in cruise, it's 60Hz, like the noise of American electrical cabinets... can be done on purpose so that the noise of airliners is less differentiated from air conditioner noise and other...
