    Sounds good. My recipe is
    1 Appleton Estate 12
    1 Pusser's Gunpowder Proof
    2 Pineapple Juice
    .5 Campari
    .5 Lime Juice
    .5 Demerara or Turbinado Syrup

    I make a version of this with a less pineapple and a bit of either peach puree or peach nectar. If you use the peach puree no simple syrup is needed as its already so sweet. Another great substitution is using velvet falarnium rather than the simple syrup. The peach plays so well with the campari, its amazing.

    Great video, and the ending is hilarious! I need to revisit the Jungle Bird now that my palate has come around to Campari. What a great excuse to try one again! Cheers

      Thanks, Sean. I’m thinking it should be played around with Aperol as well. Little more approachable and so popular now that lot of people already have it. Plus, it’s not used in any Total Tiki recipes so it’s kind of something new.

    Loving your channel!
    The Jungle Bird is one of the best tiki drinks out there.
    My preferred specs are:
    1oz Coruba
    1/2oz Smith and Cross
    1/2 oz Demerara
    1/2 oz lime juice
    1 1/2 oz pineapple
    3/4 oz Campari

      That’s what was kind of interesting in making this video. I thought the Beachbum’s recipe was a misprint when I read 3 oz pineapple juice. I guess I had just never had the original and whenever I did make or order one it was some modified version.

    Jungle Bird single-handedly got me into tiki and is probably my favorite drink in general. My take on it is something like
    -2oz rum
    -2oz pineapple juice
    -0.5oz of each campari, lime/lemon juice and demerara syrup

    Jungle Bird is such a great bridge to enjoying Campari. I've always gone with the recipe on the back of Hamilton Pot Still Black, and I think that low age funky Worthy Park distillate is great paired with the pineapple and Campari. Dr. Bird is also low age Worthy Park juice, going to have to try with the Pineapple variant.

      I think people shake and hold how it’s most comfortable. One prob shaking next to your head is noise. If I worked behind a bar I’d adopt a diff method otherwise you’d risk losing your hearing.

    Finally made your spec(s); you indicated 1/4 oz Campari and also 1/2 oz. Neither is enough to read as a Jungle Bird FOR ME. I really like the Smuggler’s Cove version. YMMV of course and I appreciate the variations always. Cheers!!
    And I always use Jamaican rum and appreciate that you did too!

    As someone who loves the idea of the Jungle Bird (there's some brilliance in rum, Campari, and pineapple as both an easy approach to Tiki and Campari), I agree that the OG recipe is lackluster and have yet to try my "ideal" variation. These specs are gonna be my next attempt.

    Cool to see yet another cocktail-oriented chanel pop up, especially when the video quality is this nice and crisp. Personally, I don't think funky Jamaican rum fits that well in this context. Have you tried making it with black rum instead of just 'dark rum'? It's amazing with coruba for example. Also you could try lime-acid adjusted pineapple juice, and ditch the lime juice. (btw i think you wrote the wrong amount of Campari in the description specs)

    • @makeanddrink
      @makeanddrink  Рік тому +1

      I have not tried it with Coruba. That's one of the bottles that I have not seen on the shelves anywhere near me for many months, even the places I have shipped to me haven't had it. I do tend to agree with what you said in funky Jamaican, but I also enjoy even just putting a 1/4 oz into drinks just to slightly modify it. And thanks for catching that error.

    • @JamesRyhl
      @JamesRyhl Рік тому

      @@makeanddrink Jamaican funk can definitely be very nice. The Hamilton Jamaican Black Pot Still rum you have on the bar display would also work pretty well : ) I think the reason that the original Jungle Bird could afford to have so much pineapple juice, was because the black rum and campari were both such strong flavours. Smuggler's Cove also calls for black rum.

    • @makeanddrink
      @makeanddrink  Рік тому +1

      @@JamesRyhl that Hamilton is actually the Blonde, but from what I’ve heard from Ed in an interview it’s actually exactly the same but he adds a Carmel color to the dark. I obviously love the smugglers Cove book but specifically did not remember, or look up, the Jungle Bird as I didn’t want it to steer me away from the original.

      @@makeanddrink My mistake. Yea, the colour of rum can be very deceiving. HTD's Jungle Bird recipe is quite good, where he uses that rum, but it's def more of a funky vibe. Modern versions I've come across usually go with some actual black rum like Coruba/Gosling's. There's a million ways to go about it
