Hi 2 years since i posted on here and my 2005 R5 2.5 tdi is still going strong I have 200.000 miles on it now and in the tume i have had it i have replaced the 2 lower rear control arms and springs and 2 brake calipers discs and pads all round 2 oil services the centre prop shaft baring and 4 new tyres The AC has got a whole in it and i will have to get that fixed I will be sorting an oil leek on the engine i am almost sure its the turbo oil feed But at 200.000 miles i think i will be changing the turbo as i do a lot of long European trips and dont want to be strsnded . Your points about this engine being unreliable are not very valid in my opinion this car has 320.000kil 200.000miles on it and its going strong no smoke at any time its smooth and has good torque the gearbox is smooth and its a nice torrer for long holidays where you can travel all day on the motorway and still go off road at any time The engine is easy to service with lots of room and easy access and lots of cheap parts Yes a 3.0 v6 would be nice But how much is a new timing chain on 1 of them And how easy is it to stop the oil pouring out of it from every end ? I fancy a Q7 next so will be watching your video on that Or perhaps a x5 i dont know yet But finally when i see my wife drive down the road with my little girl in the back seat i feel happy that they are in the strongest car ever made And one thats worth 1100£ 😅 And thats a nice thought when you know how badly my wife drives 😅
I've a touareg with the optional 19' wheels along with the standard suspension. The ride is pretty comfortable however a bit jittery when it is faced with really bad or no pavement bits. On the highway it is reaally comfortable.
Fantastic review. Have been driving this same model for three years now and it has hit 392000 and still running very well. Thanks for this and I think I have to start looking out for those signs asap
Thank you for the review! I was just about to buy a 2004 R5 for my wife as she is a new driver and I think the Touareg is a good and safe car for a new driver but there are so many things that could go wrong that I don't really would have the time to fix. Thank you once again and keep the quantity content coming 👍🍀
Nice review, my R5 just clocked over 750,00 original kms and still runs like a dream, the same R5 in T5 vans will easily run up these kms too, but as you've stated are several things to keep a close eye on... furthermore there's actually an optional 16" rim for the R5 Touareg as they have the smallest brakes of all the models...
I've been trolling the internet for reviews and this has to be the best and the funnest. Which is great because I live on a rock near the antartic and I am waiting 6 weeks for a ship to bring my V6 touareg to the Island. You made me laugh but you also made me feel pleased that I sold my 2.5 Touareg and waiting for my V6 version. But how do I now tell my dad that his Touareg 2.5 is sh**t ? He wont have a bad word said about his car. THe V6 is more economical as you said. Quite surprised that you said you would buy another one. Love your accent,. DJ Paddy, Falkand Islands Radio Presenter. There are no Touaregs on this island. It's only Land Rovers, so I will be the first to import one.
Very interesting and complete review. I have myself a 2008 R5 TDI with only 125k kms. There is also an unfindable oil leak near the vaccum pump. Overall, i agree with the conclusion: A lot of car for the money. Cheers from France.
We I just got a 2005 one of these so let's see how it goes Everything seams to work 2.5 tdi auto with 173000 miles Wondering if I should change that water pump ?? I will get all the fluids changed and have the brakes thoroughly checked over Let's see how it goes I will keep you all posted Just had one test drive and so far impressed

I don’t know why he’s complaining. He has the most basic version of the interior and complains it’s cheap, just get one with the bigger engine and it will be really luxurious.
could you please do the BMW E63 630I or 635D second generation, it is my dream car and I could not found any informative review like in your channel so far
Romanian city hall car tax: 2l engine- 30 euros, 2.0-2.6l 300 euros; 2.6-3l 550 eur. everything bigger not even worth mentioning so basically we are not allowed to be car enthusiasts. I already have a Phaeton so a second 3l engine in the family would be just sponsoring a worthless local government. For under 10 years, it is a lot more expencive. The only price break is for 20+ year old cars, where no matter how big the engine is it will cost up to 700 Euros.
some of these cars do have a dpf actually, but it was optional + if I'm not mistaken it could be even additionally retrofitted so yes you can find these cars with a dpf but not often since it was not common back then

If you have any VW with a DSG and you can start to feel or notice your gear changes, take it for a gearbox service. It's only a few hundred dollars and the gearbox will shift like new again, seamlessly and right when you ask it to. The gearboxes on those things can and do fail if they're not maintained. One of the first signs it's beginning to fail is sluggish gear changes.
when you said brakes are weak, i thought: yours are weak, they need maintenance. old car's braking system gets weal, the pedal becomes numb, it's sinks more, and doesn't stop as powerfully as before
You didn't mention electrically foldable mirrors it has! But thanks for this very informative video, would've like to hear more in detail about the engine issues and cost of fixing them!
2.5 TDI was already underpowered; the 1.9 TDI would be dangerously slow. There are already reliable engines in the Touareg like the 3.0 TDI and 4.2 V8; no need for a 1.9 TDI.
