This performance will from now on be my weekly bread. I have listened to Janine and Hilary, and I will for sure not compare, every performance is there in its own right, but GOD, THIS IS SOMETHING!!! I dont dare to use any stronger words. BUT I WILL BE BACK!
@@RaineriHakkarainen Would y'all stop? The whole reason Staffan made this comment was to remark that each violinist has a unique interpretation and shouldn't be compared!
Extraordinaria violinista, controlando totalmente su instrumento, recreándose en cada nota musical, con la pasión suficiente, sin excesos virtuosísticos, perfecta conocedora del lenguaje sibeliano. Bravo! *** Extraordinary violinist, totally controlling her instrument, recreating herself in each musical note, with enough passion, without virtuosity excesses, perfect connoisseur of the Sibelian language. Bravo!
Strange how I have missed this for two and a half month. But tonight is my lucky night, I found this. And so far is Lisa playing just wonderful, I think that I will come back with a more nuanced comment, when I have recovered after this positive chock.
"Somewhat proud?" Dear sir, your modesty is, with all due respect, very much misplaced. You can indeed be enormously proud of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic (and all other magnificent musical ensembles which call Stockholm home, not to mention all others throughout Sweden)! Lisa is the superb soloist in superb Sibelius Concerto, playing together with a superb orchestra under a superb conductor who is a superb Sibelian. In short: this performance might as well be one which can be called Sibelius Heaven (if such exists). Fond and respectful greetings from Boston, where the Boston Symphony has written great Sibelius performance history, but, unfortunately, appears not to continue writing it as much as it has (and should again). Which means that this video, at least for this Sibelian across the Atlantic. comes as a marvelous and precious gift. Bravi tutti!
@@ewmbr1164 Of course you should be especially proud in this case. But if humans anywhere in the world achieve something remarkable, you should be no less proud of that too, because the fact that you belong to the same human race is a direct reflection of *your* greatness as well. (Or so does it seem to me.)
As I understand it Lisas playing in the second movement, Adagio di molto 17:00 has a special intensity and nerve that goes to my heart. So Lisa, thank you for the music.
Just one more comment, as a swede I am lucky about the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, from Stockholm, and that Lisa has played with them, apparenly during this pandemia.
i miss the sound of applause after the concerto coz that is the minimum appreciation that we can give to the orchestra for giving us such amazing experience.
BRAVA LISA!!!
After listening I think that there is nothing wrong with Lisa Batiashvilis violin playing, it is superb, as always, but it is in the connection with the orchestra that something lacks. What it is I dont know, the orchestra try their best, it sounds good, but the connection between solist and orchestra is not on top. Sakari Oramos conducting? But this is only my personal opinion, I have the greatest respect for people thinking different.
Agreed. The orchestra did not follow her well. The flautist at 15:24 took a completely different tempo and nearly derailed the end of the first movement.
Her violin sounds like - she should forget about how to show off her power and skill, instead, she should focus on what the notes and music tell to her heart
So sad to hear you saying this, as a swede, about this swedish orchestra. But perhaps Gilbert is better? I have not the faintest idea, even if I have listened to many uptakings of this work. On UA-cam is perhaps Hilary Hahns the best? Or is it Janine Jansens? The choice is free...
Carl. In my opinion the best version of Sibelius Violin Concert is the one with Mikko Frank and Hilary Hahn. Regarding that she has done earlier uptakings of this work. But now she is more "freeform", has left behind the idea of the "perfect" for a more dynamic sound. If you havent listened to this on UA-cam ( I think you have) do so. Best wishes to you!

Hilary Hahn so over-rated violinist! Hahn her Sibelius violin concerto is horror show! The best Sibelius violin concerto players Are really=Guila Bustabo( THE QUEEN TIGER!!). @@RaineriHakkarainen yes I agree with Hilary Hahn over rated! She has good technique but zero musicality and color in her sound! I think Lisa Batiashvili is a bit underrated and has really good technique and great quality and charisma in her sound that is perfect for any concerto!
actually, now that I think about it you are half correct. yes there are a lot of similarities but if I have to compare I will say it's somewhere between hilary an heifez. hilary's interpretation is much deeper and somewhat more touching while heifez tended to play this concerto more lightly and a lot faster, and there are a lot of moments here that are dark and epic but also a lot that are very fast and light. if you ask me hilary is a little more suiting for this particular concerto' which is one of my favoraits

As great as young Heifitz.
Delightful tone, some middle ground compared to the powerful and vulnerable tone from Hahn and Jansen respectively.
