    I had the old Fisher Paykel dish drawers (installed 2005) and loved them. They were wearing out and requiring service calls, so instead of putting more money into them, we bought new ones. What a mistake! First, our dishes didn't fit. That's right. The dishes we had been using since 2005 now didn't fit in 2019. I contacted them and they said, oh, sure they do. I had to send them a video to prove the top wouldn't close. They still acted as if this was my fault. I bought a whole new set of dishes, having to bring sample after sample of dinner plates home to be sure they fit, not only in height (diameter of plate) but also depth of lip because (surprise) the space between the brackets for the dishes is also considerably smaller than the previous model. Now, in addition to my aggravation, the drawers only clean well when I space the dishes in every other slot, which, of course, reduces the number of dishes per load. I am still spitting mad, and, if I didn't have the two dish drawers configured on either side of my sink, I would have forced the company to take these back and installed a conventional dishwasher. Upshot: Don't buy these.

      I remember seeing a drawer dishwasher in Macy's back in 2005 and I was absolutely in love with it. It was the perfect size, very water-efficient. Now I actually have the money to buy these things and I can't find one quite the same!

    I wanted to love this dishwasher so badly. I really like the look of it and thought that having the drawers would be very convenient in terms of washing one while filling the other on a day to day basis or using both after a party. As a family of 4 use to turn on old dishwasher every 2-3 days - F&P is daily.
    Good stuff: it does work - clean dishes very well, super quiet, lots of washing selections depending on what’s required.
    The BAD Stuff: the capacity and loading restrictions are brutal. Because you need to make sure that everything has clear access to water jet you simply cannot get as much in. If you use the wine glass holders you effectively lose two rows on the bottom especially with larger glasses. The angled row is a complete pain to get multiple bowls in regardless of the width of the racks and they just don’t sit right and wind up knocking against the glasses in the adjacent row. The cutlery rack & divider is also useless unless you have very narrow handles - I have larger cutlery and none of it fits in using the separators. If you want to wash large cutting boards or serving dishes - FORGET ABOUT IT - they simply won’t fit unless you lay them flat and the only thing in there ergo a complete waste of energy and water. Same thing with pots - I am never going to use a dishwasher for 3 pots and lids for 144 minutes vs washing/drying them by hand in 10 minutes.
    Overall - for a single person might be great for a family or ppl who like to entertain get a traditional style.

      Since I never wash pots in my dishwasher, only being able to fit "3 pots and lids" is not a problem.

      You realize each drawer is effectively half the size of a regular dishwasher, right? So if you normally turn your old one on 2 times its not rocket science or surprising that this one will get turned on daily.

    • @DiscoFang
      @DiscoFang 4 роки тому +1

      And to claim they're a waste of water and energy is complete nonsense. These use less than half the water of a regular dishwasher and way less energy. The motor in each unit is DC not AC and extremely efficient.

      LOL my office has the F&P 2 drawer dishwasher in both offices we've occupied (moved from a small one to a much bigger one). After the monthly company BBQs, we load both drawers to the max and everything comes out clean. No problems with over loading it

      Same here. Had their Gen 2 that came with its own quirks and 'features', for 18 years. We left it in the house we moved out from in full working order. BTW, F&P design team corrected all of the quirks by the Gen 4 and that was long ago. This is Gen 7 (or Series 7) now. Big thumbs up for F&P! We just got this model (DD60DCX9 as in video above) few month ago in our new house and couldn't be happier.

    I have had the older version double drawer for the past 12 years, it has worked perfectly well with no service or change of parts for that long. Amazingly beautiful piece of machine, and being a double drawer brings all the uniqueness & slickness in my kitchen. It’s one of a kind and am now looking forward to the new version double drawer. Good job F & P on this machine hope the new versions are absolutely amazing

    I love my dish FP drawers and have installed them in the last three homes we have lived in. One thing I found is that these drawers require less dish detergent per load than regular dishwashers. For that reason I don’t use the commercial dish “pods”, but rather a small amount of powdered detergent.

    We have the same F&P dish-draw and we dont use the drawer select button.
    When you close the drawer, it auto selects the closed drawer, then you choose your settings. I find this very intuitive because you will always be closing the drawer you’re about to wash.
    All the best

    This is ideal for RV use. By having one drawer for dirty and one drawer for clean you save space in the RV by not having to put your dishes in the cabinet. There is the added benefit of the locking feature that secures your dishes on travel day. It is truly perfect for this and should be marketed for that purpose as well.

    If you adjust the settings just after you close one drawer, the settings will apply to the drawer you just closed.

    As a note for people that may have issues with dishes not cleaning, if your model has it, some of these have an option to choose your water 'hardness'(mineral content) - so it sets the dishwasher to work the best for your water supply.

    In the video, you show yourself using gel dishwasher detergent, but the owner's manual that came with my brand new DD24DAW9N says to NOT use gel dishwasher detergent. I read about this online, and the best guess we have is that the drain hoses on these F&Ps are a little smaller than a normal dishwasher and the gel can eventually clog up the discharge hose.

    • @scottbiggs8894
      @scottbiggs8894 4 роки тому

      How would a gel clog the discharge hose? It won't clean unless it is highly diluted with water, which will wash easily through any hose that water will go through. And even if some did not mix with the hot water, it WILL mix eventually and flow down the tube. I have been wondering this exact same thing (and my search led me to this vid).

    I purchased my first drawer dishwasher in 2009. Was very happy with it and really liked the system. Recently replaced it and am not pleased with 2 factors - prewash water is not hot and it does not dry the dishes at all. Very disappointed and would not purchase again. Called customer service and they were not at all helpful, in fact rather rude.

    I have had a double unit of the prior generation for 6 years now. My observation is that was the 2nd generation of these dishdrawers. It requires thinking outside the box for one to learn to appreciate them over time. I am always worried if a new product is an improvement over the older version. My versions biggest drawback was breaking handles. At $250 CAD a set just for pieces of plastic, that is way crazy. So, in the end, it would have been nice to have in big bold letters on cover page of owner manual something saying "never attempt to open drawer when machine in cycle". So with new version, I suspose this maybe fixed. Second big letdown of prior gen was filter plate rubber seal and rubber at filter plug. All disintegratring over time with use if a bit of hardness in water. The new model here looks to have much better setup with no filter plate at all and round filter cartidge instead of that bad bean shape the prior generation has. Keeping an eye on stable spray arms has always been very important as I caugght them having lifed off a few times and by the same problem, ending up destroying the blades of water propellers. So, I see a new swing arm here. I like it but, does it clean as good as the old set up? Also, the max time for a cycle on prior gen was 128 minutes. I see here almost 3 hour cycle for the longest one. I have learned to live with the long cycles of the prior gen but, wow,,,this one is becoming long. Regardless, for my future new home, I am thinking to leave my current no longer available generation behind and take a chance on this one. I hope I will not long for the one I leave behind. About the dishes to fit...well, I would do what most people don't do, buy dishes that fit your dishwasher and not shop for a dishwasher that will fit your dishes. That would be backwards. With dish drawers, this approach mentailty is even more important. Trust me.

      Prior to that, I had a Whirlpool dishwasher that was loud like a truck, used gallons of water and soap but, never cost me a dime in repairs over 20 years of daily use...it is hard to satisfy all angles of ownership. Now that I pay for water and the cost of soap, I am willing to deal with a bit of repairs and fragile stuff but...come on....250$ for a pair of plastic handles?

    Couple other brands ... KitchenAid had drawer units for a few years starting in 2004 or 2005. Their first-generation model was a rebadged F&P. Second-generation KA was a different mechanical design that Whirlpool got via Maytag when they bought the company. It was marketed under the KA, Maytag, and Kenmore Elite labels.

    Bought the F&P dishdrawers in 2003 and they lasted until 2019, with never any issues. I got used to them pretty quick and liked them very much. I replaced the drawers with an AEG comfort-lift dishwasher and I feel that I should have purchased another set of dish drawers. With the AEG dishwasher I often find that I have dishes left in the sink. That was never a problem with the drawers. Also, loading the drawers there was never any spillage or splashing, which is an issue with the AEG. To avoid this you have to make sure that all residual liquids are tipped from cups and plates or they’ll splash, YUK! I also don’t feel that I have gained much space and capacity with the AEG. I am looking for an excuse to get rid of the AEG to buy another set of drawers.

    Thank you for doing a thorough review. I LOATHE this dishwasher. Nothing much fits, the lower one is too low for my husband to unload, so I always end up doing it. Plus, when you have to unload two drawers on the same day it really becomes a monotonous process. Mine is currently stuck closed with both drawers full of dishes. I was running the bottom only and somehow ended up with an error message for the top drawer! The message is not even mentioned in my user manual. The reset button is not doing a thing. I had to unplug it and it still is locked. This came in an apartment that we bought. Otherwise, would not have it at all. I do not think that the inconveniences are worth the few conveniences. Unless you have a tiny kitchen and rarely cook.

    I have had mine for 8 years. I have 2 drawers one either side of the sink. We are a family of 4 and we use it a lot. One of the drawers broke. Turns out the drying fan is broken and it would cost $300 to fix because I live far from any approved repairman. They are changing $150 to drive the extra miles. The rack on the inside is also starting to rust on both units.

    I've had this dishwasher for about 4 months now and I can honestly say it's not the best. My previous GE dishwasher cleaned way way better. With this one, I always find myself finding food stuck to forks and plates on every cycle. It's a shame because this costs 2x 3x the average dishwasher, yet it does 2x 3x less of the job.

      Try adding some powder to the smaller section of the holder. They seem a bit vague about this, as just being for dirtier loads, but I think it might be for the pre-rinse - it's possible this could make quite a difference. The different cycles may also make quite a difference.

      @@mikele8476 The dishdrawers seem to have improved with each newer model, both before & after the company was sold.
      They'd already moved manufacturing overseas years before Haier bought the shares anyway.
      I live in NZ, so they're relatively common here. Several family members have had them, and been happy with them. For example, when my parents moved, they bought another one after having previously had one for many years.
      The oldest ones(they were first made in the late 90s) had some flaws that caused problems after a number of years, but all the later models seem fine.
      F&P are no longer the only company making drawer dishwashers, as it seems the patent has expired(here at least), though the only other brand I've seen so far is Midea.

Any advice or comments on this idea? A couple of issues I can imagine are needing to have a small dish set, needing some dishes more frequently than others and therefore still needing a dry cabinet, possible issues with dirty or cleaned but damp dishes sitting in a confined space for too long? It's form molded plastic as one piece for two reasons; one, so it has no ability to leak and two, it's much quieter than water banging off of metal. The only way to seal this with SS is with silicone caulking or welding/brazing it together. That's not going to be as waterproof as a single formed piece of hardened plastic.
