10 years ago, Nike released knitted football boots took over the entire industry! It goes down in history as one of the most significant and impactful technologies ever introduced, with the world of football boots forever being changed. 10 years later, and true knitted boot options aren't quite as abundant, but there's no question in my mind that Nike still isn't dominating the space!
In today's video we discuss why the Nike Phantom GX 2 Elite, along with the mid-cut Luna 2, are hands down the best knitted football boots of 2024. We discuss the good, what I'm not such a big fan of, how they compare to the competition, as well as how they stack up against the OG that is the Magista Obra! AG soleplate
I’ve noticed that Nike products definitely do not get heavily discounted anymore. I think Nike is doing what Chanel does, and avoid big sales to make their products seem more premium.

I would argue that the New Balance Tekela v4+ LOW is actually the best knit boot on offer. It has a more pliable upper & more neutral soleplate. The knit is arguably softer & the GX2/Luna2 is VERY voluminous boot & if your foot is narrow/low profile, the boot has SO MUCH dead space & becomes sloppy

*I've tried all these synthetic "elite" models and I still like leather better. Leather molds to your foot like it was custom made for you*

The GX1 was soooo comfortable but way too tacky/sticky for me. No amount of time got me used to it. Makes sense though as I prefer leather. Bring back the hypervenom 3!

Hi Josh, im a keeper that play often on ag surfaces a little old and rough and i constanly do split saves, so the front and sides (especially where the thumb is and the inner side of the shoe) of the foot are subject to quite violent rubbing. Is this shoe durable enough to withstand these constant abrasions or would it be better to opt for a shoe like the new Tiempo? Thanks u.
I’m not sure that any boot in particular is going to hold up better or worse in that specific area. Or at least it would be impossible to predict. I don’t see why these would be any more or less durable than the Tiempos though.

Closest thing to a Vapor 9 is the Skechers Razor for sure. On a budget, possibly a Pro tier Mercurial or a takedown model of the Mizuno Alpha

@@r0b3rt_959 Unfortunately, they dont have a turf version and I play on really bad astro turf. Does the Furon V7+ Pro tf give the same pliable upper? would love to hear your thoughts.
How are phantom takedowns? I like them a lot, especially the look of the black and white colorway, but the price is wayyy out of my range. Is the gripknit only on the top end version?
The Pro model is basically the GT(2). Good model if you like that boot. Gripknit is for Elite model only
Much thinner and more rigid upper, without any additional grip. More like a Phantom GT than a GX.

I would recommend both of them. Picking between them is more so going to be dependent on what type of fit and feel that you’re looking for because they’re quite a bit different in that regard.
Phantom GX have the best colour options of any Nike boots
The gx2 Luna are so stiff and tapered AT the toebox i don't understand why so much people say it is a wide shoe , it is not. Same size 10us the vapor and superfly are wider than these shoes at the toebox be aware of that if you did not try them before buying

with the 360 soleplate, are these safe on newer turf?
I wouldn’t recommend it. Bladed studs on turf are typically never a good idea
Do you know if there is a boot similar boot like the OG Nike Mercurial Superfly V DF FG?
Nothing in particular comes to mind in terms of what’s currently available. The current Superfly wouldn’t be a bad choice if you’re a fan of the Mercurial series in general and looking for something somewhat similar in overall shaping.

Every single time I play in these as well as the previous gen, I end up with the worst blisters in the same spot. Switched to Asics and is 10x more comfy than these

With the fg soleplate I’d go as far as saying they’re some of the worst boots on the market. The shape of the boot feels off and the soleplate is just awful. Never tried the ag so I can’t speak on that but it’s sad to see the direction they took with those boots.

Someone said in terms fit and touch on the ball, the New Balance Tekela V4+ low and the GX/Luna 2 are good comparative replacements for the Adidas Ace 17.1 and the Tiempo Legend 10 is a good replacement for the 2015 Adizero.
What are your thoughts? Would you agree with those comments?
I can’t say that I would necessarily compare any of those boots to be honest. Both GX 2 and the latest Tekela are excellent boots though
Puma Futures are much better for me.
Can’t understand why any company would make a white AG boot. They turn dirty black and look awful after one session.

The AG model is definitely the way to go if you regularly play on turf

this boot is ugly
i think the overall fit (i have a flat slim foot) of the pringan phantom gx was better but i think the new model has a slightly better grip and slightly softer upper after breaking them in
