Hiking the Hooker Valley Track | Mount Cook National Park, NZ
Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 чер 2022
- The Hooker Valley Track is the most popular short day walk within the Aoraki / Mount Cook National Park in New Zealand. At only 10 KM return and gaining only ~100 m in elevation; the well formed track can be completed by walkers with a wide range of level of fitness.
Length: 10.6 KM return
Duration: ~3 hours
Date walked: February 2022
From the first of three swing bridges along the way, enjoy the views over the Mueller Lake and listen for the rumbling of avalanches from the distant Mount Sefton. You may be able to spot them before they crash into the Mueller Glacier below.
After crossing the Hooker River, the track goes between old moraine ridges and humps.
From the second swing bridge, the vegetation changes to more open tussock and a wider valley floor.
The second swingbridge in the Hooker Valley was severely damaged during a storm in March 2019. There is erosion on both sides of the bridge which affects its structural integrity during high winds. Engineers have determined the bridge is completely safe when not affected by strong winds and flood events.
A third swing bridge then leads to the East Hooker and the source of the Hooker River.
The track ends with an amazing view over the iceberg-speckled Hooker Lake and up to majestic Aoraki/Mount Cook and the Southern Alps/Kā Tiritiri o te Moana.

What wonderful images, I am from Brazil and had the privilege of visiting New Zealand in March 2023, reviewing these places where I passed through your lenses made me win the day. Congratulations on the pictures.
Thank you for the kind words! 🙏
NZ is such a photogenic country, it makes taking beautiful pictures pretty easy 😅
Stunning, thank you, walking it in February 24
Have a great time, it's such a beautiful track!
Wow you really have captured how beautiful the place is. Looks like a stunning walk
Some consider it the best day walk in NZ!
Thank you! Amazing views!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Beautifully done! Thank you.
Thank you Rexx!
We went back and did this track in winter, was even more beautiful!
Looking forward to going. Beautiful scenery and a great video. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching John!
We went back this winter and stayed in Hooker Hut for a night; it was even better!
I just finished watching the overnight trip to Mueller Hut. I'm still chuckling over counting the stairs. Though I was the only one who did that. Got concerned when you stopped at 93. Triumphantly finishing with 2,000 topped it off perfectly. I enjoyed how peaceful the area around Hooker Lake seemed, but it had nothing on this trip. The views from here seemed.......serene. Even that hardly does justice to how it felt through your video. I can only imagine how it was in person. Fortunately, in two months, I'll get to find out. Thank you both again. Awesome video. I look forward to watching others
Glad someone noticed the stairs counting, I thought it was kind of funny 😅
The Mueller Hut route is definitely on a whole different level to the Hooker Valley Track. Even if you only go as far as Sealy Tarns, the views are stunning
You'll have an amazing time!
Beautifull place❤️,amazing shots❤️
Thank you Zahid, hope you are doing well!
Amazing
Thank you 🙏❤️
💯👍
Wow wow wow. We need to do this hike 😱🏔❤️ beautifully captured. Can we please come with you on hiking adventures in NZ? 😛
Watched this one twice. So pretty and calming
Come over and we can go hiking together! We'll only be here for another year though 😄
Thank you
Been there!
It's one of the best!
Hi! This was an amazing video! May I ask what month/season is this? Thanks
Thank you for watching! 🙏❤️😊
We visited in February 2022, but it's amazing anytime of the year!
Watched this on 120 inches, so good...
Cheers buddy!
Is this video taken during spring or summerr? Im looking to go New Zealand and Mount Cook but not sure which season I should go in order to capture this view. Can anyone here advise?
This was walked in February 2022, so the middle of summer. Spring tends to be a bit more rainy in NZ
@@ChrisandDanya Thanks for the reply!
Hi, love your videos! I just wanted to ask what camera and lens do you use thanks :))
Hey SleepySushi, thanks for the support!
In all the videos from the past ~2 years I've been using a Panasonic G9 with various different lenses. Currently using a 12-60 f2.8-4 Leica lens + Laowa 7.5mm f2 for the really wide angle shots. I also have a 25mm f1.4 lens which we mainly use for low light shots.
Danya then also does some filming with a GoPro. We used to use a GoPro Hero 7, but recently upgraded to a Hero 10
However, I've recently upgraded to a Panasonic GH6. I haven't edited any of the videos shot on that yet, but should hopefully have one done in the next month or so. The first video we'll be releasing that was shot on the GH6 will be The Milford Track, but we have one more video coming out before that
@@ChrisandDanya that's awesome I really liked the wide shots on your videos :))
How will be the weather in mt cook in end of December
Weather in NZ is very unpredictable and always a chance of storms, but end of December is well into Summer so you'll have a good chance of nice weather 😊
@@ChrisandDanya thanks so much
Is the walk suitable for families with pram? Thanks
Yep! It is pretty flat the whole way. Track can get a bit skinny on some of the board walk sections, but plenty of room for people to step off to the side. I can't remember if there are any stairs, if there is, it is very few
