I'm enjoying your videos. I met you last month at Cornstock. I don't remember if we talked about tubular lanterns at that time. Keep the videos coming!
Always good to visit the shop! I'm on a Feuerhand bend right now and just picked up another 280 accidentally b/c nobody bid against me like I thought they would. I like that they're the last maker of hurricane lanterns in Western Civilization, so my next purchase will be a new 276. That KBS tank sealant seems to work okay, though my one 280 is giving me fits with it. Apparently I didn't clean the tank well enough before sealing it because fuel still leaks out a tiny pin hole. Weirdest thing I ever did see, honestly. When Helene came through here, the Hurricane lanterns really earned their name. 8 days without electricity, and I didn't have to worry about batteries going dead or the skies not charging a solar doodad because I had "old-fashioned" oil lamps to bring some light to the darkness.
@@cutlersantiques6700 They truly do. I think that's one thing that a lot of people don't understand, even as they wax poetic over the newest LED whizbang from some chicom factory. The LED might be brighter in a technical sense, but it's a harsh and uncomfortable thing. I can sit on the porch in the evening and enjoy the warm, flickering light of a hurricane lantern. Those modern things, though, are so garishly brilliant that they aggravate as much as they illuminate.
Nice lanterns ! Ive used oven cleaner to clean the grime and discoloured kerosene out of a few glass finger lamps. Works well. Thanks for the vid.
Those are 2 really nice lanterns there 👍

The "old fashion" kerosene lanterns make a more pleasant light than a solar powered LED lamp too!
