    That is really impressive. I wish we could simulate such a thing using a CAD program

      You could also model it shoddily using a game engine

      After doing an engineering degree, its easier to just build it for real

      Why would you? 2 magnets, cardboard and string, what's the point of making a sim for it?

      @@null-00000 I have a powerful computer, and I lack cardboard and magnets.

    I would've liked to see what it would look like if he made the pendulum orbit around the magnet

      That’s pretty much what an electric motor is

    How long will the pendulum swing for until it comes to a dead stop?

    I’m thinking out loud and I’m stupid, so bear with me. It would be a perpetual motion machine if it would go forever so the magnets will lose charge over time. How long does it take?

      as the kinetic energy is slowly depleted by air resistance and the like, the pendulum settles somewhere between the bottom and the side, such that the gravitational pull and the magnet's push are in equilibrium. the magnet won't become non-magnetic.

    Cool. Now get a transparent container, fill it with water, and have the pendulum move in the water.

      Perpetual motion machine. It has to come to a stop otherwise it defies the first and second law of thermodynamics.

    In a common sense of the term it is a sort of "perpetual motion" machine, although I don`t think it truly defies the law of thermodynamics. Very interesting concept though.

    • @michaelmills8205
      @michaelmills8205 4 роки тому

      Gravity attempts to pull the magnetic pendulum down.
      There is another magnet of opposite polar it at the bottom that pushes it away.
