Actually, I think if he didn't go out and explore, they could've captured most of their family. They were looking for new horses. If he didn't go more would've been captured.
Not to be pessimistic or anything, but obviously, this story is based on a real event. The US government didn't stop westward expansion. Not for one horse, and not for any of the dozens of Native tribes and peoples living there. After the movie ended, they probably did catch most of the herd eventually, as they did with most of the wild horses on the plains. Same with all the buffalo seen at the start of the movie. Buffalos were hunted nearly to extinction and are now only found in certain restricted locations like national parks to protect their endangered species.
Horses are actually really powerful (and smart!) creatures, so it wasn't unrealistic for a wild horse to be attacking a predator trying to hunt the herd's young.
I find the Character of the Colonel really interesting. Because Throughout the movie you get the feeling that he is a hard man, but not an unfair one. His man seem to follow him without question and you don't get the feeling the he is Cruel for cruelness sake. But at the same time he is a very clear Product of his time, elitist and racist to a very deep degree. He is not a good man. but I would not call him evil either. It is, I think, a good portrayal of how the people who did all these atrocities, like slaughter Indian people or enslave black people... they weren't _monsters_ If they were it would be so much easier. But they were just... human. I bet they loved their families, cared for their dog, were respected memebers of their communities, or leaders of their peers. And at the same time they commite heinous acts against other humans because they convinced themselves that they were less then them. I find it extremely fascinating.
I agree. For a villain, the Colonel is a very good one!! He is proud and cruel, but he understands when he is beaten and eventually learns to let go of his pride. It showed that he was certainly not a one dimensional character, and I am so happy that the writers didn't make him one.

I have had two horses born on the farm, and there can be a lot of complications with horse birth, but mine both stood and were walking around 6 hours. Horses are beautiful, powerful, capable, intelligent, and deserve the proper training to be ridden bit-less (without interference of metal links in their mouth). My horses both go bit-less, and I am working towards bridle-less riding. But I didn’t learn that way at the beginning. Let your horse have a choice, if you are doing the right thing, they will want to work with you. What a concept.
@AkinReacts Fun fact horses 🐎 originally evolved in North America 🌎 50 million years ago. But back then they were much smaller than they are now, they were around the size of a small dog. But they left north America crossing the landbrige connecting north America to Asia 🌏 and they wouldn't be domesticated until around 6000 to 5500 BC in Eurasia. Horse would eventually return to the north American continent until around the late 1400s by the Spanish conquistadors, those horses the Barbs, Spanish jennets, Andalusian, and the Iberian horses would end up becoming free and crossbreeding between those different breeds of horses would lead to the creation of the north American wild horse AKA 🐎 the Mustang.
Horses are amazing animals they can be extremely dangerous but can also be amazing, loving, companions I have three that I raised since they were babies, and they will come to me when I call them
"Runaway!!! Who do you think you are?!?" 🤣🤣🤣 The reactions to this movie are absolutely hilarious. I almost died when one of you asked what do they eat as they were running through the plains FULL OF GRASS. As an equestrian this is probably one of my favorite reactions to this movie. So many gems.
Every time you see horses animated in western media, they referenced his movie or asked the guy who animated it, James Baxter, for his help. They did some amazing things with, those ‘’camera’’ movements you were talking about? Animated. 😊 It’s still the gold-standard for animators to this day. I’m so happy you guys liked it, this is one of my all time favourites.
In the German version of „You Can‘t Take Me“, the song that plays right after Spirit is captured, the lyrics are a little bit different. Instead of „Never gonna give in - never gonna give it up, no. You can’t take me, I‘m free“, if you translate the German lyrics back to English, you get „Never gonna give up - never gonna give myself up, never. Because I only belong to myself.“ Personally I feel like they fit the scenery better, about him being so determined to fight to get back home, to not lose himself.
This popped up in my recommended, and I had to watch it because this movie is one of my childhood favorites. I'm so glad y'all liked it!! Y'all were so enjoyable to watch and I was smiling the whole time. I know the movie and soundtrack by heart so I was so invested in seeing y'alls reactions to certain parts. I'll definitely be checking out y'alls other videos!
this was my childhood. i always cry at the end cause i wish all horses were still free in todays world. also hes a real horse i forget how old he is but hes actually real
This is one of my favorite growing up. I grew up on a horse farm and my family has Native American, hits close to home. Learned how to train horses the natural way not the crude ways of the military and cowboy at the time. Now day people do it a ore natural way which is much better for the horse and safer for the human. It was called "Breaking a Horse" because they would break their spirit. Native American would put War paint on their horses, military and some cowboys would fire brand their horses. Now days freeze brand is used and doesn't hurt the animal nearly as bad.
Used to spend time on a family ranch in Canada - had a pack of wild horses that would come and go when they felt like it. The stallion of the group was a big, tough buckskin, who looked a lot like spirit. Can confirm, the studs (stallions) do fend off predators, like mountain lions, bears and wolves. He had scars all over the place from doing just that. And after he was caught and removed from the herd, the whole group dropped down to half of what it used to be. Because he wasn't around to protect them anymore, most likely. Also, this react was so wholesome and fun to watch! thanks for brightening up my day : )
Wonderful reaction! And just for the record, it IS 'sim-uh-rohn', a spanish word that means 'wild/untamed' and could also be derivitave from a word referring to unruly slaves, in the latter case used for a group of escaped african slaves and in the former passed on to a couple regions and used a few other times in western movies and paraphanalia
Kinda fitting that they use a Spanish word. Horses were introduced to the americas by the Spanish where some eventually escaped and became a feral species.
Spirit was my childhood and still is to this day. I'll always love this movie. It's what got me started as an artist and into drawing horses too and practicing with the movie's style.

Unfortunately wild horses no longer exist in the US except for one island on the east coast I believe in the Carolina’s. But they must have been a beautiful sight to see them
That's not true. They're many of them and that's the reason there's the BML or BLM foundation that captures wild mustangs cause there're too many of them in the wild. They wouldn't have enough grass left if some of them wouldn't get captured
Well, kind of. Feral/wild horse herds are everywhere in Nevada (they count as both due to being wild, but once were domestic horses a long time ago), but I get what you're going for
There's a herd of wild horses in Penticton BC! (Canada). I read, and heard about how they stall traffic sometimes. Unfortunately I've never had time to go there and see if I could see them.
We have some wild horses in southern Colorado. They are totally feral from leaving the surrounding reservations. You can see them all the time at Mesa Verde
I made the mistake of watching this with my 5 year old niece. She sobbed 15 minutes in, and continued to cry throughout the movie. All the way up until the very end. I felt so bad 😢 But when I suggested we watch something else she absolutely refused. Cuz even though it made her cry, she needed to know that he made it back to his family. Oh my gosh! Another gem movie has reached the channel! I'm working right now, but I'm definitely watching on my lunch break. Great pick, guys! ❤
It was so unexpectedly good
Bryan Adams did the songs and I grew up hearing him on the radio and soundtracks. Dude was everywhere in the 90s.
Grew up watching this movie and love it with all my heart also hate the fact that they made a TV series over a decade and a half later that is an insult to the original and then made a movie for it don't watch them
I pretend that the tv series doesn’t exist
we do not speak of the new ones lol. but i agree, some things need to stay classic and not be remade
There is no war in Ba Sing Se
I always forget Matt Damon is the voice for spirit
@@Ereh_Ereh exactly
It was Gabriele jamming out to the river song when Spirit and Rain were swimming for me 😂😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣
Also Spirits girl was shot before she fell into the water and after they go over the water fall you can see when he goes to her by the shore there is a wound on her right side where she got shot
Ohhh that makes sense
THANK GOODNESS FOR THIS REACTION!!! Spirit and prince of egypt are the best animated movies to exist, no lie. A PERFECT MOVIE. everything about it. I used to watch this movie religiously.
Spirit was my MOVIE growing up! It still know all the words to all the songs ❤❤❤
I had both Spirit and Rain toys as a kid 😂
This movie was my childhood and rewatching it as a teen made me cry, rewatching it now almost made me cry I cannot tell you how much I loved this movie
The moment when he was in the train and they played sound the beagal and he has the vision of his family in the snow always gives me chills.
Nothing makes me happier than seeing someone love the sound of my childhood soundtrack and love it as much as I do!❤❤❤❤
I have had two horses born on the farm, and there can be a lot of complications with horse birth, but mine both stood and were walking around 6 hours.
This movie was my whole childhood. I feel like this movie is so underrated, thank you for doing this reaction ❤️
50:33 Rafael too funny😂 “don’t let me catch you on the road fam” 🤣🤣
The soundtrack always brings me so many emotions
This movies soundtrack was my childhood… I was obsessed with Bryan Adams smoker voice because of it ahah
Same 😆
Every time you see horses animated in western media, they referenced his movie or asked the guy who animated it, James Baxter, for his help.
My collage barn the instructor would not allow us to play "Get Off of My Back" LOL
PS horses do give hugs like that at the end and it’s one of the best things to receive when you do
They certainly do like getting huggs
When i was a child i had the DVD and watched it every single day lmao My favorite
I absolutely loved their reactions to Rain 😂 26:29
🤣🤣
Guys, "brother bear" gives the same vibes as this and the soundtrack it's AMAZING too i hope y'all watch it ❤️❤️😔
Spirit was my childhood and still is to this day. I'll always love this movie. It's what got me started as an artist and into drawing horses too and practicing with the movie's style.
I stumbled upon your channel by chance and I gotta say: this is one of the most heartfelt reactions I‘ve ever seen. You guys go through all the emotions, and it’s great to watch together with you. Definitely gonna subscribe, keep going!
Edit:
I saw you already reacted to Avatar. Care to expand toFullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood? THE best anime I‘ve ever seen. You‘ll definitely enjoy it.
🙌🏿🙌🏿
Yes! We have wild horses in the mountain side and the beaches in NC/SC. The ones in the mountains are chill but the beach ones … don’t get close LOL
Such an emotional masterpiece for all ages
Not the motivational speech with the music in the background 😂 it was too perfect
Your video came up on my page and I ran to it so fast when I saw what movie it was about. First seeing you guys. You have no idea how much happiness I was feeling when you were gonna watch. It is my favorite movie of all time. And I cry a river when I watch it. It is so good and means the world to me. And seeing how much you three enjoyed this movie fills me with joy. You are are very funny and enjoyable. Thank you for taking the time to watch this masterpiece.
One of my favourite childhood movies by far!
I love this movie so much! When I was about 3 or 4 I would draw pictures from scenes of the movie with crayons and ask my mum to write the lyrics/narrative captions on them. I remember fairly clearly drawing one of Spirit from the start when he's running with the eagle, where my mum had written for me "flying? There were times I believed I could"
Love the reaction! It's great to see people give this movie the attention it deserves.
39:16 I was 12 when I saw this in theaters and I cried so much when i saw this scene.
Them: aint no one scared of a horse
Me *knowing one kick from a horse can hospitalize you and how skittish they are and tend to kick when scared*: oh HELL nah!
I saw this in theaters when it first came out. I cried so much I love it a lot. It made me very happy to see you guys enjoy it too.
Rain (the female) was shot, you can see her wound after they fell down the waterfall
OMG. Your rhythms you make for these songs are sooo funny and amazing. Hahaha
The music in this film is legendary.
Underrated gem. A lot of people should try this beautiful movie
"now he gets caught again" BRAH I laughted so hard!!
never have i seen three men more clueless about horses. it was the best reaction on youtube. thank you for reacting to this guys 🙏🙏
When they were confused on why spirit said “mares🙄” 🤣🤣
Love how much fun you guys are having. This is one of my favorite movies even now.
(Also, it is Cimarron, pronounced like Cinnamon. I used to have trouble saying it when I was younger.)
Horses can be terrifying. One kick to the head can take a full grown human out.
Lol, busting out that lil improve at the end was wicked.
this is my fave animated horse film and Im glad you liked it to 🐎🐎🐎
This is my first time on your Channel. Loved your reaction! Narrating what you all thought the horses were saying & jammin to the soundtrack like you did had my daughter & I laughing & agreeing at every turn. Can't wait to check out what else you've all done ~ For this witty & awesome reaction alone, you've got a new subscriber ~ 💕
Great Reaction, Guys! 👍
Suggestions:
Try watching Prince of Egypt (1998), Lady and the Tramp (1955), the Fox and the Hound (1981), and Wolfwalkers (2020).
Yes! Wolfwalkers! My favorite from Cartoon Saloon yet.
Prince of Egypt is also a masterpiece, nice suggestion.
Prince of Egypt makes me cry every time
"Ain't nobody scared of a horse though"
Horses are massive 💀 One kick could kill you
I absolutely LOVE horses but I know when to keep my distance
Was petting the snout of one and it tried biting my hand, even though it was acting completely calm beforehand.
Do NOT underestimate a horse 🐎
Although domesticated horses are prey animals (the distance between the eyes on the side side of the head). Be careful when engaging a horse. The front legs will hurt you, but the back legs will kill you.
@@c.b.barlow mhm! I always keep my respective distance from horses. (although in my heart I'd love to run up to one and pet one...)
@@artsysabs if you do, don't run (walk) and hold your hand out-palm up, fingers flat-to let them come to you. They'll get a good scent of you and then you can very gently pet them.
@@c.b.barlow I'll keep this in mind :D
Omg I love this movie!! I’m so happy you guys are reacting to it!!
Please react to The Dragon Prince! It’s a great show on Netflix that is made by the same creators who made Avatar the last air bender!! Highly recommend it, you guys will love it!
THIS was my childhood movie. I loved your reaction! Thanks for your passion!
Really glad yall liked this movie. Oldie but goodie.
Thanks for the involved reaction! Spirit has remained one of my favorite films for over 20 years. It has gorgeous art and expressive, flowing, realistic animation, beautiful, rousing music, layered themes, developed characters, and overall excellent storytelling.
I loved this movie as a child and even now ❤ I grew up riding horses and loved mustangs and the stories behind them. This movie was iconic in my book 🫶🏽
Ps. Bryan Adams is the singer for all the songs in the movie and I loved every song 😁
Someone who says 'Horses aren't scary' have never been kicked by one 🤣🤣 Horses are plenty powerful and can hold their own in a fight
Bryan Adams and Hans Zimmer went so hard with the soundtrack, one of the BEST soundtracks for an animated movie EVER
Horses can swim, but not well
Or thrown...lol
This movie was and will always be my favorite movie ever, it’s simply perfect
04:51 I mean... yeah. That's how all animals come out in the wild. Giraffe's even fall from a great height when they are born.
Plus the way us humans give birth isn't always by laying on our backs.
09:09 You do not want to say that to a horse lmao
28:36 Stallion is a male adult horse, Mares are females.
Soundtrack is ALWAYS SLAPPING
I’ve been loving y’all’s reaction and I’m so happy you guys reacted to this movie! It’s probably one of my favorites. Another good movie that I personally would recommend is Brother Bear. Anyway thank you for your reactions and I hope y’all stay safe & healthy🤍
