Well written... I was so deep in the story I had forgotten about the author's leg. It sounds a little weird but that is a mark of true writing.

It is decades since I saw it but I think Van Johnson played the 'narrator' in the film 30 seconds Over Tokyo

It's awesome that I haven't actually heard this particular story regarding the Doolittle raid. I didn't think there was any recounts I hadn't already heard at least twice lol.
These guys went through it. Thankful they didn't fall immediately into the hands of the Japanese.

Tough journey but way better result than DeShazer and his fellow crew, who were captured by the Japanese.

British narrator. Should have been an American. There were no British airmen on the raid.

It always gets to me when I hear their pronunciation of Clever's name, but then I have to remember that they have a different understanding of pronunciation and moreover have been loyal allies for many years. That someone in England had the reverence to narrate the story at all says a lot to me as well. The fact that he isn't an American was simply a missed opportunity for Americans to narrate it first. That says tons. It shows me that there are British out there who are more appreciative and understanding of these airmen's suffering than most Americans might have been (had someone from our country stepped up instead). Ultimately we can see our own lack of empathy because in the end, the narrator is from England and not an American at all.

Japanese pride and arrogance is what lost the war for them .

Actually it was the under-estimation of American industrial might as well as the Atom bomb but hey, don't let me deter your train of thought (especially after having a month to think about what you wrote).
