Have you sewn patterns from any of these companies? Let me know your favorites!
I enjoyed watching! I am petite and definitely am careful with sizing because certain patterns don’t fit me well. As a petite in height, I’m also small chested so that’s a challenge as well. Hearing about patterns for petites would be great!
thank you for your comment! I will have to move it up my video list.
I like your channel because I too am petite and like to see how patterns fit petite people. So I am definitely interested in learning more about patters that have petite sizes
Yes! I belong to Club Petite! Please do an episode on petite patterns!
thanks! it seems like the idea is quite popular.
I am hopeful that VikiSews increases their size availability at some point - I do like their styling. For Papercut Patterns - their curve line is very limited. Only 9 of their patterns are available in the curve line. I have made the Nova coat and LOVE it though 😊 I like this video concept. You are so thorough in your reviews - it's super helpful! I might have to steal the video idea 💡 🤣
I didn't realize that about Papercut! i should have double-checked. thanks for sharing.
I’m late to this but wanted to say I appreciate the views of another petite sewist, being 4’9” myself I off to search for your recommendations 😀 also I really appreciate the time and effort you put into this.
always here for my fellow short people. not everybody gets how hard it can be out there! 😂
I consider the Viki Sews single size patterns to be a pro for me because the tall drafting is fabulous. I too like the details of their styles and finishing. Re Papercut patterns I am so annoyed by their paper patterns instructions. I have the Nova coat waiting to be made and I just stopped after the instruction paper was so fussy. I am in love with Greenstyle. I have made so many Cavallos that I cannot even count. And I love all of them. I agree with you that they have high end styling and finishing.
i've never used a paper copy of Papercut, only pdfs so that's good to know, thanks.
Thank you for making this video. I took notes. Haha. I would be interested in content about pattern drafters that cater to smaller sizes. I get frustrated sometimes because a lot of patterns begin at a hip size of 35 and mine is 33 and I don't like to grade patterns. I'm also 4 ft 11.
it looks like a lot of people feel the same way. i will have to move it up my list of videos to create.
Yes! To the petite video.
This was a great review of indie companies! I have been wondering which companies offer better finishing options. I love the PE patterns, but I sometimes wish there were options for more "fancy" finishing details. With PE, I haven't had the issue you mentioned viewing their instructions. I view them in Google docs on my laptop, and I see them full-page. I just realized you mentioned desktop... Maybe that's different 🤷 One con with them is that I wish their patterns offered cup sizes and optional darts. I'm planning to look into more companies this year that offer those options. Still love PE though. They also have amazing fb support for their patterns. Thanks Sara!
yeah i didn't want to get too into the weeds but i use acrobat with my instructions and every time i try to scroll it wants to skip to the next page. cup sizes would be fantastic--i too wish more companies would offer them, on the low end as well as the high. glad the video was helpful.
Great video. Please do some more companies.
thank you! I may do another video at some point but I only want to do this type of video when I've sewn at least 4 patterns from a company so that I know I'm speaking from experience and not judging based on a small portion of their pattern catalog. I do have another video on this same topic with different companies in case you missed it.
Lady you never cease to amaze me! You’re always coming up with something new, and this video proves my statement! I love how detailed this video is (and definitely your honesty!). I never heard of Vicky Sews before the ones you’ve made, but quickly, went over to look at the patterns and you’re absolutely correct, they are definitely on trend! I love how they have a video of each completed pattern, to show you how the items should look and move! That’s great to see! (And of course how they would style them too!). Again, great video Sara! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I'm glad you enjoyed it, Myra! I bet you would like some of the VS patterns.
YES on sharing pattern companies good for petites!!
thank you for sharing your opinion! i'm working on it.
Thank you, I have been contemplating trying a Vikisews pattern for awhile now. I think I will try a blouse but I really liked everything you sewed from her!
Yep, wholeheartedly agree with your opinions. Some of the pattern companies may be different for me but the pros/cons and the premise of your assessments are the same. Your thoughts about the pattern designers I haven’t used was very helpful though as I will likely be trying them at point.
glad I could help!
PLEASE do the petite pattern ideas video!
When I started researching the topic I realized it was going to take a lot of time to gather the info. I don't have that kind of time right now...hopefully one day in the future I will. Thanks for your interest.
Hi Sara, I like your selection of pattern companies! I have made a lot of Megan Nielsen garments as well - 5 Ash Jeans and counting. I agree with you about Papercut patterns, I just finished up the Strata trousers/pants, and really did like the fly zip assembly. That's probably one of the easier that I've done and one of my problems with the Ash jeans haha.
Thanks for sharing!! the Strata is one i've had my eye on--that's good to know about the fly assembly.
Thank you for a very informative and helpfull video and YES YES YES i would also love content about designers who include Petite sizes. 🙏
you are welcome!
This was really great video; you provided excellent information! Now if only the pattern companies would listen. Single sizing is a deal breaker for me. I grade in the neck and shoulder area and would never buy a pattern that only contained a single size. And while I love the Megan Nielsen patterns they do seem pricey given that I'd either have to print and assemble or pay more to print at a copy shop. I tend to use mainly Burda envelope and Burdastyle magazine as I seem to be able to get the best overall fit with the least amount of heartache. Occasionally I'll get brave and venture out into the indies, especially if there's a design I really love, but there's nothing like a good tried and true to make sewing fun and enjoyable.
so true! and honestly nobody needs to own every pattern out there. i have a problem with FOMO that i need to address--lots of times the TNT can get you where you want to go just fine.
Very detailed and fair review of these indie patterns, Sarah! I totally agree with Megan Nielsen Patterns being on the high-end. This is one reason why I don't buy many of her patterns. They are too basic for the price. I've never sewn a Pattern Emporium pattern. So, this review is helpful. Thank you for sharing!
i'm glad you enjoyed it, Tea!
Yes pls on petites! I’m only 4”11 haha
Great review Sara! I have gotten some of the Pattern Emporium patterns because of you! I think you do a really good job of describing pros and cons about patterns. Thanks for sharing!😊
Thanks, Becky! I'm so glad it was helpful!
Hello, Sara, really loved the format of this video, pros and cons, that was super helpful. I don’t have experience with all of these but I agree 100% with your review of Pattern Emporium. I personally love their patterns but yes, I’ve seen some repetitive designs within their pattern list. Thanks so much for sharing! Happy Sewing ❤~Tiffany
I'm glad that you enjoyed it!
i am really enjoying your content i now know where to find easy patterns i also need plus sizes now i kow where to look thank you so much i am a beginner i would love to see what fabric type that works best for that pattern 🥰
thank you for the suggestion. i will try to incorporate that into future videos.
This was really helpful. Thank you! I would love to hear your thoughts on which companies/patterns are especially good for petites!
thank you! it seems the idea has been quite popular.
Great info, Sara! I’m a lazy sewist, too! 💗
thanks! it's great to feel like i'm not alone.
Great video! I’m quite picky on the indie patterns I use, and have been intrigued by VikiSews as I love the fashion forward designs. The single size and height have kept me from purchasing though.
yes, i can see how that wouldn't work for some. thank you for watching!
Thank you for this in-depth video! It would be wonderful if you made a video about pattern companies that draft for petite bodies. I'm 5'2", and although I find it easy to shorten patterns, there are a lot more adjustments that I should make to patterns that I'm not skilled at doing yet. Also, could you share which pattern you used to create your red, double gauze top? It looks so good on you!
thank you for sharing! the top is a hack of the Meet You There dress. I lengthened the bodice and curved the hem slightly.
Love your blouse❣️
Excellent video, thank you for sharing so much information. I would definitely be interested in patterns for petites.
thank you for your feedback!
I would love to see a video about pattern designers that are good for petites. I am 5" and an A cup.
thanks for weighing in!
Please please please cover patterns for petites!
Yes please to pattern companies for petites!
thanks for sharing your opinion!
You’re petite, I’m tall. Same but different problems. I also am quite thin in legs. I once made a pair of cargo pants Big 4 patterns. The legs were so voluminous on me they looked almost like palazzos! Unfortunately I had seen all the pockets on so I was not even going to try to save them. I also notice some companies draft for a pear shape. I am rectangular . So I guess I’m saying yes do a vid on petites but also consider talks and body shapes. (If that’s not too exhausting! Love your videos!
thank you for the suggestion! i don't really feel qualified to give recommendations for tall folks because i obviously don't have that issue. what i think would work for tall people might not be accurate. I would suggest following some tall sewists in the community like Andramakes, Rachel from Stitched Up, and Sew DIY (she's a pattern designer). also there's a hashtag on IG, #sewingtall
Thank you for this informative video ...i realy like the opinion from someone how have sewn from the difrent companies...and there ware some new to me as wel. I like if you do a video about good petite pattern because i never know what i can learn from it(im just in the middle 168cm). 🙂
thanks for sharing! I was a little worried that I might alienate viewers who aren't petite but your comment is encouraging.
I'm not petite, but sew for my Mom who is. Just had to shorten sweatpants I made for her by 4 inches!
Very helpful Sara. What pattern did you use for the quilted coat? Thanks. Your videos have gotten SO much better!
thank you, that means a lot to me! I'm not sure which quilted coat you mean--if it's the beige solid one, it's the Megan Nielsen Hovea and if it's the colorful patchwork one, it's the VikiSews Cheryl. i think those are the only quilted coats i've made so far.
@@knottygnome I love the patchwork one. I am a weaver and have lots of pieces of handwoven fabric which I believe would make a warm coat. I’m always cold so prefer a longer coat like your patchwork one.
Yes please, petites.
thanks for weighing in!
What do you think of Style Arc? One of my favorites 😻
i've only sewn a couple of style arc patterns. for the purposes of my company reviews i want to make sure that i sew at least 4 patterns from the brand so i can do an informed review. from what i can remember i really liked the Barry pants and wasn't crazy about the Como pants. i don't think i've sewn any other SA patterns to date.
I've made the PE Besties Tee 6 times and I've never not hacked it, despite all the available options. I'm a compulsive hacker.
they are nice patterns for hacking b/c they are so simple. i've even done a few hacks here and there.
Would like information on petite patterns
i did start the research process but set the idea aside for now b/c it's going to be a lot of work. i will get back to it eventually.
Yes! I've gone to the green style website more times than I can count looking to buy a leggings pattern but I can't decide which one!?!? Do you have a recommendation based on the ones you've made?
it's hard to say without knowing what you are looking for, but i really liked the Simpatico leggings. very easy and quick but still with a good variety of options. HTH.
@@knottygnome Thanks!!
I bought one pattern from Greenstyle. Then, as I looked through their tester/model photos, I saw many that were clearly and blatantly photoshopped to have slimmer waists. I brought the issue to the company's attention and they have done nothing. Not only is this dishonest on Greenstyle's part, but it is hurtful and hateful to all the courageous models who have put their honest photos of their real bodies in athletic wear out there. If I could get my money back, I would so I could get rid of the feeling that I have supported such a disgusting and hateful practice.
