    Hey, something I'm qualified to speak on! I'm guessing there aren't infinite people in your regular viewer/listenership who have actually played Wheel of Fortune, but I am one of them.
    The whole ordeal of the shoot day was built around getting everything set up to need Pat and Vanna for as little time as possible, so they could get in, knock out a week of episodes in about four hours, and then get out. The reason their time is so respected is because they are *consummate* pros. Pat could quip and greet strangers in his sleep, even had something clever to say when I told him I played Magic the Gathering which is more than you can expect from most 70-plus year olds.
    It must have been a pretty sick gig for him: get in for two half-days every two weeks, be yourself, make several million dollars a year. I'm pretty optimistic for Seacrest honestly, but Pat is so archetypal. Him being off the sets now along with Trebek feels like the true end of a classic TV era.

      That's interesting! I'm curious, what did Pat say about you playing MTG?

    • @YourPalJamieEllis
      @YourPalJamieEllis 2 місяці тому

      @@MoonMagicks he asked what it was, and then when I told him it was like chess mixed with poker with a coat of Dungeons and Dragons paint over it he said "well I think I'm gonna stick with Monopoly, little more my speed." I really appreciated the levity as we were en route to the bonus round and I was nervous as fuck.

    For whatever reason, my go-to thing to listen to while falling asleep was old time radio shows, either OTR cassettes purchased from the Cracker Barrel giftshop or low-quality public domain MP3s I downloaded onto an iPod knockoff that I shoved under my pillow. Thanks to that ritual, I've probably listened to all 800+ episodes of The Jack Benny Program at least a dozen times each. I now know more about WWII pop culture than any Gen-Y person should.

    That Delilah mention from John brought back a wave of memories. i used to listen to her every friday night with my parents and i looooved her request/dedication segments, my mom once called into her show, i have a recording on an old cassette :) . I am so surprised to see she is still on the radio too, wow i have to put it on one night. Love you guys by the way! i have been watching every bit of your content for years now(boxmac and junts cart hooked my instantly) and it might be cliche to say this lol but you guys have really helped me forget about some very stressful moments through the years and i really appreciate you all for that.

    There was a free over the air channel called BUZZR a few years back (it could very well still be on) and they played all the greats. Match game, password, hit the buzzer, and my favorite - family feud with Richard Dawson. Man did that guy kiss everyone. Totally wouldn’t fly today 😂😂

    Oh that clip of Jon at the start makes me laugh whenever I watch that Junt's cart, what a great cut in 😂😂. Great clip as always.
    I have such a ridiculous CD memory from when I was a kid. I asked my mum to buy OPM heaven is a half pipe. And she came home with an M.O.P album. Cue 7/8 year old me putting on hardcore hip hop. I have never let my mum live that down.

    One thing I love about wheel of Fortune is that unlike most game shows they never "retired" Vannah White because she got older. They just let her age gracefully and do her thing.

      @@toddjenkins2561I believe it wasn't a lawsuit; it was just a behind-closed-doors pay dispute that got blown out of proportion by the media. Though she did sue Samsung, IIRC, years ago for likeness infringement, referencing the "turning over letters" thing in a commercial... and lost.

    Also if you do that Red Cow Broadcast Day idea, you should model it after North Korean TV. An hour of men's choir then an hour of John touring & nodding at the Box Mac factory, Slob weather after the news, etc.

    The video montages accompanying the National Anthem sign-off were unique to each station, as far as I know, and it seemed as if nearly every NYC-area station in the 80’s had not updated their video montage since the 60’s/70’s… and thus seemed “obscenely out-of-fashion” to my sensibilities. BUT, some small PBS station had a really trippy, psychedelic “NASA/Cosmos” themed montage that I absolutely loved. IIRC, it was the weird electronic rendition of the National Anthem that elevated it to High Art.

      I loved all those PBS shows about woodworking. The dude who only used colonial-era technology was pretty awesome. A little sweat would start beading on his bushy brow and he’d continue talking, nonchalantly, as if everything was fine, but you know he was on a tight shooting schedule. One take. Done. No reshoots. 😂

    Really can appreciate some wholesome Game Show talk. Barker, Trebek and Sajak really represented an era of Game Show TV that can't really be replicated. The biggest current names in Game Shows these days are well, Drew Carey and Steve Harvey.

    My days of being a Bongolian have blurred a lot of memories, but I remember there was a PBS show where a guy narrated the plot of a book while drawing a scene from the book. The drawing would often represent a cliffhanger moment to get you to read the rest of the book.

    Nobody talks about how culturally significant Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy are. Being of similar age as you guys, we grew up with it as mentioned around dinner time. It's two shows that will never be cancelled and be on, most likely in the same time slot till we are dust. I would say they are Americana but you can search the world and Wheel is on almost everywhere. I also must say you guys also are right in that as a passage of childhood, The Price is Right would find it's way on when staying home from school. You guys present content that I wish I can interact with. I have some rather unique views on the gaming hobby and might offer some perspective that is quite different then what anyone discussed.
