    Found your channel yesterday with the Paris one and felt in-love, it feels so therapeutic and inspiring as someone residing from the far-east of the world. Judging from these two videos, Paris is grand and very clean while Rome is rustic, homey, and care-free. I appreciate that these videos were also taken at late afternoon/golden hour where the lighting is optimal for these videos. I would also point out that maybe you could improve the quality of the audio by incorporating a noise cancelling mic perhaps because it takes away the mood at times especially with the wind noise nevertheless excellent videos.

      @@DiscoverHudsonValley That is not true. If you go to the other boroughs like the Bronx or Brooklyn you will find a lot of street with graffiti. This area of Rome is not in the main metropolitan area of the city. Trastevere is a suburb of Rome, you heard in the beginning of this video the history of it.

      @A R Graffiti are one thing but what we see here are just vulgarity like 'Frocio', I do not think the soul of a city is increasing by that. But I agree with you, it seems there is no way in Italy to achieve anything by law.

    • @maggiemcmac8273
      @maggiemcmac8273 3 роки тому +3

      @A R But it is too bad those Mayors cant see how it affects tourism. I would not visit here because of the amount of graffiti everywhere. I have seen simply gorgeous Italian towns without any graffiti. It's all about pride of place IMHO.

    • @maggiemcmac8273
      @maggiemcmac8273 3 роки тому +1

      @A R I love the culture and history of Italy and hope to visit one day. I'm probably just a romantic but when I see old buildings tagged, I think of who built them and the families that lived there, and I cringe a bit. I had some same reaction when I saw graffiti at Sacre Coeur and the Eiffel Tower in Paris. And you are right, tourists aren't "owed" anything and American cities certainly have their share of graffiti and seldom the history when compared to someplace like Rome.

    • @ProWalks
      @ProWalks  9 місяців тому

      It is very common. Naples, Palermo, Rome, Cagliari, even Florence and Venice have it.

    • @yakkyuu12
      @yakkyuu12 18 днів тому

      The Graffiti and litter is NOT something AT ALL the locals who have lived there for GENERATIONS are proud of, and it really was NOT this way at all on the AMOUNT of filth, 12-15 years ago, it was not even close to this mess!
      The Graffiti is NOT accepted in the better parts of ROME ( PRATI) and these areas power wash or paint over the graffiti ASAP --then - they paint the walls very pleasant.colors to the eye!
      So, it does depend on what part of the city you are in! It has gotten out of control( that is NOT the same as "common" -- which DOES imply - its acceptable and not a problem!)
      BUT - in FULL TRANSPARENCY- the REAL citizens of Rome are VERY tired of it and it has been in the main news in the last 3-5 months on how the police are gong to crack down on this!
      The Jubilee is coming in December and will last ALL OF 2025, Rome govt. wants this to be a great time as there are ALREADY MILLIONS of reservations to go to Rome during the Jubilee!
      The whole of Italy is not in even CLOSE to a decent place economically, it has BECOME even MORE dependent on TOURISM than it ALREADY WAS, and those who visit take home WITH THEM the FILTH of what they saw as well as the beauty and they do NOT BALANCE out!
      Think about what YOU said -- you NOTICED the graffiti AS MUCH as you noticed the beauty ---THAT IS THE EXACT ---IMPRESSION -- the REAL citizens of ROME ---DO NOT WANT and want gone!
      I cannot impress upon you enough -- the importance of tourism as an source of economic SURVIVAL that ITALY AND major cities in Italy are SO DEPENDENT upon!
      That is why the filth of the graffiti SHOULD NOT be as prominent as it IS NOW!

    For a last Rome walk before winter comes, I suggest following the ancient walls. Not only the well known preserved segments but the whimsical/monumental short bits in little visited places that range from upscale homes to commercial zones. You may have to omit some long gaps, or could sneak a continuous drone overflight. There is a book or two on interesting wall features.

    It`s so beautiful, but what makes me very angry are these taggers who ruin the facades of buildings and shops, a lack of respect. This idea that this is art is an aberration. Since every wall was essentially the same color, like this is, it worked well. I just found it interesting and a simple solution.

    Trastevere was the first ethnic neighborhood in the Western world. The first Jewish immigrants arrived in Italy in the second century BC, as foreigners, they could not reside in Roman cities and in Rome itself. So they were allowed to live beyond the Tiber river (at the time this place was outside the city of Rome), where they built their houses. In the following centuries, other Jewish and Mid-Eastern immigrants arrived in Rome and Trastevere became a lively, characteristic and popular neighborhood. Actually, Trastevere has maintained its popular character from ancient times until today! Many famous modern Romans were born in this neighborhood: Alberto Sordi, Sergio Leone, Ennio Morricone.

    How about hefty fines into the thousands and the banning of possession and sale of spray cans in the city? Give the taggers a designated area to spray paint. The fact that the authorities allow this to happen to the most beautiful city in the world is a complete disgrace. They do not appreciate how lucky they are to have a city as remarkable as Rome is and it should be treated with the respect it deserves. Trastevere has the potential to be an amazing part of Rome but sadly deserves to be ignored by any visitor to Rome.

    Stayed in Trastevere last week. Couldn't get past all the graffiti and rubbish everywhere at first. You'd think being a popular place for tourists, the locals/authorities would take more care. Another thing, the Italians don't seem to like the British much, I tried my very best to be polite and courteous, seemed to annoy them more. Is it a cultural thing?

    Graffiti on the walls Why ?

  • @流浪漢パリ
    @流浪漢パリ 3 роки тому +2

    I don’t understand why, but Paris is more cinematographic than Rome. I found Rome very spiritual, indeed. For me, is culturally richer than Paris, as you could breathe the culture and history in a more profound way. It is incarnated everywhere and in every person. Paris is just Rome’s ungrateful kid. The only thing I did not like about Rome was: pizzas and junk food everywhere. I eventually found a very tasty restaurant in Trastevere: Meridionale. Best Italian ice creams (organic, infinitely savorous with unique essences) are made by “Fata Morgana”. That’s fun, as Fata Morgana is the name of a Celtic legendary figure, in France, Brittany. If you want a huge heart beat when visiting France, first go to Paris for the fatasm vs. reality shock, then head to Brittany (Tahiti like îles Saint-Nicholas, The Cornwall coast, Belle Île, Lorient‘s islands and beaches: île de Grâves/Port Louis, Le Pérello), Normandy (Deauville, Le Touquet), Arcachon, Biarritz, Cassis (if you saw Paris and did not see Cassis, you didn’t see anything! I was so grateful when discovering this gem!), Saint-Rémy de Provence, all the Riviera, Saint-Paul de Vente, Cannes and Le Suquet and île Marguerite’s prison of The Iron Mask+ secluded beach), Strasbourg and Alsace’s villages, Corsica (!!!!!), Saintes-Maries de la Mer/gypsy capital, Avignon (!!!), The chateaux de la Loire, and I forgot sooo many! France is impressively diverse and visiting it’s towns and villages is like traveling to another country. Brittany, Alsace, French and Spanish Pays Basques (Biarritz, Saint-Jean de Luz, Hendaye and it’s donkeys near the Runes, Cambo les Bains, San Sebastián, etc.), Corsica, are like other countries.

    I always love your walking tours so thank you for sharing. Maybe its just me but the disrespect shown for the unique architecture and culture of Rome by this graffiti is sickening. It looks like someone vomited crayons and comics all over. It's hard to ignore and it is like going to an art museum and have someone smear magic marker all over a masterpiece. So much blatant disrespect. I honestly feel sorry for the people of Rome who put up with this nonsense and have allowed their magnificent heritage to be so blighted. Judging from the multitude of tables out in the evening, it seems that Trastevere feeds all of Rome. But the logistics of trucking all the food necessary to accommodate all those diners into all the restaurants along those narrow streets everyday must be a traffic nightmare. So, hmm, maybe that's why some people there get the impulse to smear all the walls with hideously juvenile graffiti - they're all going nuts trying to get to work?😋

      Not sure what they were arguing about. Didn't think it was right to focus on it too long though so I just kept walking.

    Need 60fps! Videos o fthat sort, with a lot of movement just do not look good on 30 fps. Other channels like Still Wanderer do it in 60fps and it looks so much better.

      ...All my day walks are in 50fps. I film the evening walks at 25 fps because it is better for low light.

      @@ProWalks I see... thanks for your response...I will look for day walks then...because for me the lower fps totally takes away that feeling of being at the place.. I can't even read the signs for example cause they are all blurry..

    A week ago just completed my one-month tour of Italy (Tuscany, Rome, Naples, Sicily), but the level of dirt and degradation I've seen in this country I've never seen before in my life. What a shame. What uncivilized inhabitants (certainly not all)? How do the Italians manage to live in such conditions, and how no one rebels? It's useless to have such beautiful architecture and countryside if it's not cared for by the locals. Note that this is just a viewpoint of primary a school teacher from Canada.

      @A R And? So everyone can come to your city and be allowed to destroy it? Is that right? These are beautiful historical buildings, private properties which meant to last for many thousands of years. Who would want to buy properties looking like these, knowing that if you renovate it it will get sprayed with gibberish letters . Where is the MAYOR???? And POLICE??

    Is a guy walking around with a camera a completely alien concept there? What's with all the weird looks and grumpy stares as the camera man walks by? Almost everyone looks like they're in a bad mood. The loud argument was interesting though.

    Looks a dump with so much graffiti on those beautiful buildings speaks volumes about the lack of respect they show now for their own city and culture as with everywhere now unfortunately it seems ……..sad times

    The graffiti artists ARE walking around with ladders. No way you can reach that high to spray unless you are10 feet tall. The businesses/residents are complicit in this graffiti scourge. They want it. They Like it.
