Out of the back for discus, when you showed getting balanced out of the back with the left foot, knee, and shoulder facing 9:00 and then the right side comes around the left, should the athlete think of posting the left side at 9:00 while the right side comes around?

Dane, when you say “outside edge down” for disc do you mean the part of the disc facing the sector at release or the part opposite the arm?

Hey Dane, I’m a high school sophomore shot & disc thrower (43’7’’ glide) and (138’11’’) and what I’ve noticed in both shot and disc both is that when I land in my power position, whether it be a glide or a spin, that I always land with my feet super close together. I’ve been struggling with it since the beginning of the season this year and have been trying to fix it with half spins. But it’s not working. I know that im missing out on so much more power, but I don’t know how to get my feet to ground further apart.
Is there anything I can do?

For the glide, you might be kicking your left leg too high. Make sure your left foot doesn't go above your left knee. Aim your left foot down and towards the center of the toe board.
There is a drill for the glide called the snap drill. You start in the glide position and you snap your right foot about 6 to 12 inches towards the center of the circle and only rotate your right foot 90 degrees. Keep your head and arm pointed towards the back of the circle. Try to keep your right foot low to the ground and do the drill as fast as possible. You can use a bungee cord to keep your left arm pointed back.
For the discus, with some chalk, put a small X in the circle where your feet should be in the power position. Do some slow throws, with random implements, balls or cones, and try to consistently hit them with half turns and south African drills. You could put a target about 70 feet like an old trash can and try to hit it going about 70% while hitting your foot positions.
Try to get someone to video your throws on a phone or whatever and compare your positions at various spots to other gliders like Michael Carter, David Storl, or Dane's own Lucas Warning. When you compare positions, just watch their right foot through the entire throw. Then next time watch another body part through the entire throw. You need to keep on repeating this process to get better. It's really your only way to get feedback if you don't have a coach.
      Good Luck!

Im struggling with turning my right foot when I land in the glide and im just wondering how I could possibly fix that. I also struggle with scratching all my big throws.
