I don't care if it is called, KIA, Hyundai Genesis or Audi, if it drives great, has a good engine, looks half decent and is awesome value ! Then people can think what they want to!
Finally an unbiased review of the K900. I've sat in this car several times and the materials are all high quality even down to the lower parts of the trans tunnel and the doors. I'm 6'4 and my 5'9 friend sat in back with room to spare. The K900 is very comfortable and definitely worth considering if you use your brain. 10 yr/100k mile powertrain warranty, who else is doing that? Def not anything from Germany.
Congrats to Kia for not just copying what the Japanese and American manufacturers and slapping on a badge to fool people. They had the balls to call it what it is, and that's how you grow a brand. Mercedes didn't start out with an S Class.
Actually that argument is invalid. The Hyundai Genesis has a personalized badge, and considering that they are partnering Korean companies, it's not a bad thing.
This car is worth every penny! I own one and am extremely happy with it. He is right about the feel of the steering, but I could care less about that. Can care less of the badge also because when you're in this car, you feel expensive!
Kia has without-a-doubt come a long way. I saw one of these in going into Boston today and was blown away by how gracious it looked. Coming up on the rear, I thought it was a Mercedes, or a new BMW no one had ever seen, but a Kia? This car is setting the bar!!!
I Wouldn't be the first on the block to buy one. I'd let someone else lease it for 2 or 3 years first, then I'll buy it certified pre-owned for $34,000.
I drive a Kia Optima. It is from 2004 (10 years already). The build quality till now has proven to be top class. Very reliable, smooth cruising sedan car. It feels nice and heavy on the road. My friend who owned a Mercedes C240 2002 and a Hyundai sonata 2001 told me his Hyundai was easily a contender for the Mercedes in reliability, build quality and driving experience.
As a guy in my mid 30's I've come to the point where I actually like the idea of owning a car brand on the up and up. If I'm in the market to spend 65k this car would easily be iin the running. And on paper it's the winner.
you speak my tongue... btw an acquaintance of mine (not a friend) works in a car service place and he said he hates Kia's because they don't generate merely any income for him. No major problems, faults, breakdowns, nothing happens to them, owners ask for just a ridiculous oil change and so. Instead the german luxory brands are regular visitors with broken parts, electricity issues, engine breakdowns... interesting.
froochie123 I couldn't agree with you more. I am in my 40's now and I want the best bang for my buck. I have owned a Mercedes, my friends all own either a Lexus or a BMW. My wife and I bought a new car last month and I was looking at the Mercedes C Class. After test driving the Mercedes I decided to go look at a Kia Cadenza just for shits and giggles. I have to say that we was impressed. The fully loaded Cadenza has way more optioins, drove better, more room on the inside, the NAV screen is bigger plus Kia offered a 10 yr / 100,000 mile warranty. We ended up buying the KIA because we felt we got more car for the money, plus as you stated they are up and coming. Plus the warranty was a nice added bonus. For just over $30k I feel we got the best bang for our bucks.
***** i didnt know that. but yes in the us it's 10yr, 100k mile powertrain and 5yr 60k on your bumper to bumper. This is double and triple the industry norm
Someone should tell the reviewer that Kia has actually been making vehicles since 1944 and is Korea's oldest automotive brand. Do your research bloke! I have an Optima and would love to sample the 5.0 Tau V8 GDI package. I also own a V12 Daimler and would have no problems owning a Quoris which was the K900/K9 model's original name. Lovely car.
I own a K900 VIP white on white ! and I am in no way disappointed with the this car nor the options my car has. If it was a Mercedes of BMW it was easily cost me 70 to 80,000 plus. I think the 5.0 GDI is a excellent engine married to a great transmission. I will own this car a very long time. One option I love is the TFT gauges..... and the feel of the seats. Excellent ! The 2015 Motortrend Excellence Awards show go to this car.
I have been driven (by my father) in the most luxurious cars on earth. Not that he was rich, but because of his profession (company chauffeur). I know the difference with cheap cars and the difference is huge. Then, as a child, I resolved to buy one of these luxury cars of my own, one day. If not new, then second hand. Then, I started to earn my own money and saw the value of it and that it is not that simple to maintain a luxury car. Buying is not the problem, certainly not second hand, but maintaining it (fuel, garage bills, tyres, Insurance, road tax etc). Choices, choices.... In fact I was so naive, I thought an expensive car would never break and never wear, because they were so well made. Yeah, right... So, now I drive a Mitsubishi Mirage and you know what? Suddenly all that luxury seems very superficial. In the end, a car is a machine that brings you where you want, warm or cool, dry and reliably. Small is handy, economical, nimble. I like that. I feel sorry for people burning so much money in depreciation and fuel and all that. Probably they have to work hard to earn all that money to burn. And what does that bring? Nothing but status. The hell with status. I really do not care about status, fashion and the like. That is for narrow minded people who are focused on externals and trinkets. Am I cheap or just rational? haha. No, not for me this kind of car. I know better ways to spend money.
nice writings man..i agree with u but the community nowadays love to be binded with banks for a very long period of time, why not but a car just like u said that's practical in terms of fuel n space
The only luxury brand I would buy from would probably be Volvo, since the old wagons they first introduced into the U.S. are still driving mostly, and they are now a true luxury brand that has the safest lineup in the world.
As a salesman for a Kia Dealership, I notice that most customers that come in love the brand, the product and everything else in between. Th problem is that they're blinded by the brand itself. They KNOW that the car is worth every bit of the price but for them, is a status thing. Customers would much rather spend the extra money because they don'y want to be seen in a Kia, than to be in a quality car for the right price. We all have grown to fit in with the crowd. Everyone one wants to keep up with Jones's and if you're in anything else, you must be poor. Sadly, that's how most are.
Or some of us understand what a TRUE luxury car is. And some just have a preference for certain makes. Kia has always been just a generic economy car imo. The name KIA just sounds generic, But hey that's my personal opinion others may feel empowered behind the wheel of one of those things, And hey more power to them. But I'll pass!
D Money I remember when Lexus was just Toyota's attempt in copying Mercedes. I'm sure at one point, the name Lamborghini sounded quite "tractorish." But not anymore. I'm sure Kia has the same long-term strategy in changing ignorant perceptions like yours. I prefer being open minded and know how to judge a car based on what it is, not what emblem is slapped on it.
+MrChevypower...dumbest statement you've ever heard? I mean, if that's coming straight from the customers mouth, then how is it dumb? Unfortunately, that is is the mind set of many buyers.
D Money You're not just mad because I called you out on your closed-mindedness, and you know I am 100% correct! It's ok, you feel free to believe that luxury is about brand names. You're the sort of idiot who spends $300 on Beats headphones just because of the brand name, when the product is absolute rubbish. I don't drive a Kia, but obviously I know a lot more about cars than you. Otherwise you would know that in 1991, everyone was calling the Lexus a Mercedes copycat. Plus you would know that at one point, Lamborghini was famous for making tractors. I did notice you did not come back with any facts, just more bullshit.
Great review!! You made me a believer! With the 10 year warranty you could stop there because to me that's what it's about, peace of mind, quality and value. They hit all the marks. I can't wait for the next generation Optima looking at this K900!
just an update, I returned my 2015 today. leather on dash and arm rest was wearing off. ac compressor needed to be replaced and the transmission issue was never figured out. slipping and clunky into gears. I traded straight out for a 2016. it's a v6, it's not that bad, vip black and brown, tan 230 miles. hope it's better
Very good price ! , when I compare it with a 550 or s6 or E full loaded the price will be $120 grand , and some people still saying it's A Korean ! Look at ford what they doing first, here in Saudi Arabia we say it's american made, Japanese is better or Korean specially the durability and warranty, stay focus people we are in 2014 everything changes, look at the new mustang looks like a Mazda 6 for example !
PanicAtTheKFc The S6 Starts @320,000 SAR if u want to add for example alcantara headliner it costs 9700 SAR, if want everything it will cost 450,000 SAR = 119990.25 US Dollar ! :'(
Saudis love American cars even though they're crap, and Mercedes has no respect in Saudi or anything German it's all about the Lexus. You can't beat a Toyota AC in a 120 F weather!
Hyundai/Kia are making some nice looking cars in the luxury segment. As I and many have thought and suggested. Get away from the Hyundai/Kia brand badging. Name the luxury brand Genesis and build all these nice models Equus, K900 & Genesis sedan under that division since they share overall engineering architecture.
Unfortunately they did, early Lexus models weren't much to brag about in terms of exterior & interior design. Those 1st generation LS/GS/ES models really didn't offer much in terms of luxury in my opinion except an exceptionally reliable engine & tranny. The interior improvements & tech in their models now are what helped drive those prices up.
My Brother owns a Kia. He's had the car for almost ten years. Its been in two bad accidents. Of course its been repaired both times. The car still runs like a top. The quality is there.
If Hyundai/Kia was smart, it would create a luxury brand just as Honda, Toyota, and Nissan did with Acura, Lexus, and Infiniti, respectively. No way they will sell a lot of these, as the majority of luxury car buyers are status-conscious and would not spend $65K on a car from a company that they also know makes the Soul or Forte.
...not saying the K900 or the Equus aren't great cars or are not worth the money, but they should have created luxury brands and then sell their luxury models under those brands.
Mazda is a prime example. They tried to build higher-end luxury models in the 90s and early '00s, but they did not sell well and did not have the same reputation as the other luxury models. Now they don't build any high-end luxury cars.
1st of all, they are already smart because they are doing pretty good at selling compact and medium size cars. 2nd, they don't need to create a luxury brand for many reasons, one being they are already doing pretty well... 3rd, for every status-conscious buyer that will avoid this car, they will find a buyer that does not care about the badge.
***** I never said they are not smart because they are not doing at selling compact and medium size cars. I said if they are smart, they would create a luxury division to market and sell their high-end luxury cars under. This has worked very well for Acura, Lexus, and Infiniti. You are wrong about being able to find a buyer who does care about the badge for every status-conscious buyer who will avoid this car. High-end luxury car buyers who care about the badge make up the majority of these types of buyers, so your one-for-one theory doesn't fit. Again, not saying the Hyundai Equus and Kia K900 are not awesome cars. Only saying these companies would be smarter to create separate luxury divisions to sell them under. History has shown that companies that try and sell their high-end luxury card under the same brand name as their lower-end cars do not succeed in selling those types of cars.
Yeah I agree, just a separate premium luxury brand would be a great idea with no past of economy cars, so consumers would have more trust and belief in what theyre selling
I think that they should better create sub brand like lexus or infinity. kia is fine, but it's not prestigious. what do you drive? big kia. well that's nice
But there goes another problem, it would sound like a brand nobody have ever heard before, and when they said is a sub brand from Kia, I'm not so sure....
Jeremy Lai Wai Kit When you tell someone that you drive a KIA K900 or as the call it Quoris in my country, theres a very high chance that people wouldnt know the difference between this and the kia cerato or a kia Ce'ed, even if you explain how its as good as an E class and even better in someways people would still say its a KIA, But if it was a sub brand, you could explain it to them that its a new luxury brand and get away with owning a KIA. Im sure the guys over at kia have thought about this and probably thought it was better to stick to improving kias image.
I own the first model 2015 kia k900 & I honestly love my car. Yea it's a kia but when you experience it personally, a silly badge doesn't even matter. Beautiful car inside & out. 💯
The thing about this car is that, yeah, it looks good in and out, but that's only because Kia "borrowed" most of what it is from real luxury brands. That gear shifter is right out of a BMW, the electric seat adjusters is pure Mercedes, and the list extends to nearly every other part of the car. This is why Kia and Hyundai can't make their own luxury brand: because no one wants a copy.
Most cars in their class look similar to one another. For instance many new mid size sedans like Mazda 6 and the new infinity q50 look very similar in the rear to the previous Hyundai sonata model. I think Kia cars (higher trims) are unique thanks to Peter Schreier and unlike nearly all other cars, most kia models look good from any angle and not just the front or the back
Just because it's a copy does not make it any less good. And by the way, gear shifter and electric seat adjustments may look the same but is it the same motor? same bolts? I don't think so.... The car has a million parts. They are not all copied. So what are you trying to do here? Are you trying to bring down Hyundai by saying it copied everything and it sucks because it cannot come up with anything new?
***** Yes and no. Hyundai and Kia are good cars, but they don't have much soul because they are followers. Not leaders like the Germans and Lexus. Wouldn't you rather have an original?
Kia haters step aside lol. This Kia should do quite well, I mean they do have an Audi designer as their president I doubt if he's going to design a car that is going to fail.
***** Not going to change. With the introduction of the E250 bluetec that upward trend will continue. Throw in the already good leasing deals on an E Class and buyers will head that way. I'd buy a Kia Rio or Sorento because they're good for what they do but not a luxury Kia because they've failed to do what Lexus did in 1990 and haven't matched the Germans either.
Kia hats off for being extremely ballsy and putting a V8 engine in this car when other car companies a ditching them!!! Now everyone that is saying "65k? no way!" BUT Kia is target luxury BUYERS, and if you're looking for luxury car, the LAST time you look at is the price tags.... you don't care, you are expecting top notch high end features and functionality, and that what this car gives you in compared to its main competition. Luxury buyers look at TODAYS tech so they know its expensive, not old used tech, like in audis or acuras. YUCK
ive been waiting to see an actual driven review of this car and you didnt disappoint. i have to say i am most surprised by how quiet the interior is. i agree that the chrome wheels have to go (is chrome big in Korea?) and i think that they should have omitted the Kia badges as much as possible, especially from the steering wheel and hood. Jeff went kind of Morpheus with it at the end there, too. lol
I think KIA's made a big mistake like what Hyundai did... They did not create a separate brand for their luxury devision. Regardless of how luxurious and nice this car may be, people really do not want to drive a "kia" or "Hyundai" over an established brand like Lexus. Sure this is kind of a pretentious thought, but personally I'd get a Lexus LS or even GS over the Genesis, Equus, and K900.
Gwynne66 Then why is Lexus making so much money? Bentley uses the underpinnings of the VW Phaeton--guess they should have put the VW name on it? You know nothing about marketing. Not creating a separate brand is a big mistake.
chad haire These faux-luxury brands only exist in the US because manufacturers believe that only Americans are stupid enough to fall for it. Cars sold in the US under the "Acura" brand are sold elsewhere with a Honda badge and US Infiniti models sold with the Nissan badge. Lexus is the exception - though they have a much smaller presence outside the US. Lexus makes money because they charge more for their cars than Hyundai does. Sales of the Genesis haven't suffered for lack of an imaginary "luxury brand". The Genesis platform was so successful that is spawned two corporate cousins... the Hyundai Equus and Kia K900.
I look at KIA like a person. No one wants to be told that they can never do better than what there doing. We all want to better our selves. Kia has done that. The issue here is not quality. Its the name KIA that's throwing some people off. Good job kia
Today, 75% of the gadgets that come standard on a luxury sedan can be added as options in cheap compact sedans... Nowadays, the line between fully-loaded midsize sedan and luxury sedan is very slim. I'm not talking about AMG and super-duper turbo stuff. Back in the days when cars had 1% electronics in them, it made sense to have a luxury brand that loads their cars with GPS and VSC. Nowadays, what is the point of Hyundai or Kia creating a separate luxury brand? Think about Honda Civics VS Acura CSX, what is the difference? There is a difference but it is verry small. It might have helped selling millions of cars in the 90's and 2000's but is it still the case in 2014?
Gah, I hate to admit it, but you are absolutely right. Only a fool would disagree with you. All cars these days feature navigation, all cars these days feature relatively powerful engines even in the sub - $35k USD range. All cars these days feature all these so-called "goodies"
Gordon Mccracken but your comparing the cheapest audi with an economy car, trust me..I oan an A4 audi quattro and drive over 20 differrent cars everyday working at a rental car company.
I find it interesting reading the comments on this video. As always people jump to the conclusion without actually driving or even seeing the car in person. Comments like "Kia? No way" are just signs of ignorance. As a person that loves cars and previous owner of a BMW 750li, Mercedes S550 and Porsche C4S, I can tell you that I understand build quality. However, in today's economy I look closer to value and less on status. $60k for ANY car that has this level of tech, luxury and performance is a good deal when you compare it to overprice Lexus, BMW and Benz. A year ago I was in the market for a new car. I looked at all of the Japanese sport sedans, I looked at pre-owned german sedans as well as Ford and Chevrolet. After doing a ton of research I came to the conclusion that my best value for the money was a Kia Optima SX-T. After owning the car for a year now, I can tell you its one of the best cars I have owned and enjoy driving it every day and paying my low monthly payment every month. Keep an open mind folks, the market is getting bigger and there are more options than ever.
I completely agree. A year ago I was in the market for a new car. As everybody looked at benzes, bmw, Cadillac cts but after I test drove and research the optima sxl I've never looked back. Tons of features, good power, great ride and looks way better than competition. Very happy with my purchase.
ant a Starting a new car brand is crazy expensive and would have increased the cost of the car. It shouldn't matter what the badge is if the car is made well. Also you do know that Ferrari is not a luxury brand of Maserati. They were both independent car companies until they were both eventually bought by Fiat.
My friend's shop took in a KIA SUV that hit a pot hole, It wiped out all the suspension! Just a pot hole? And all suspension pieces had to be replaced?
Nice car...probably way more reliable than anything that toyota (the recall king of the road) makes...including lexus. I'd buy it over a lexus any day.
Sure funny how brand perception is still around these days , people would put this car on a pedestal and pay double if it had a BMW badge. I'm just waiting until the day comes when both Kia and Hyundai will be touted as good if not better than the Japanese , by the masses. The day will come sooner than later. I still remember how back in the day the Japanese dominated the electronic market , now it's the Koreans.
I doubt this would sell as a bmw because bmw's sell soley off their good looks and sporty driving dynamics. Unless you're buying a 7 series in which youre wanting more luxury than sport. This car has neither sportiness or good looks so even with a bmw badge it wouldnt sell
+IlikeBball234 its true, if this car had bmw, mercedes, or even lexus it would be selling a ton of units. I actually plan on taking advantage of the kia name though. The value of these cars plummet, i recently found a 2015 fully loaded k900 with 4k miles for 25k below msrp. that means you can get this luxury for mid to high 40's if you buy used.
I build a Kia K900 with the VIP Pack and with destination it become $66,455. A Lexus GS 350 RWD with Navigation Package and destination is $55,358 for AWD with Premium Package with Additional Options and destination it become $ 58,000 if you want a Lexus with all most anything that the Kia have need to buy a Lexus 460 with Comfort Package with Additional Options destination it become $76,986 that $19,000 more and if that you said is right that Lexus well become around $90,000 and you still don't have anything that Kia have
Lexus GS doesn't look nearly as exciting as this Kia (can't believe I'm saying this). GS is just not the right car to compare it with. Probably the LS even though that's a step above in class, but that's just what I'd compare the K900 to. There's no rear seat goodies in the GS, and it's missing a lot of the features you can get on this K900.
ikutoisahobo did you read the whole comment ? I talk about the Lexus GS due of the price point is close to the Kia. and I talk about the Lexus LS due is a rival of Kia K900. you can get all the features of the Kia K900 on the Lexus LS but at that point is over $100,000
could someone take 3mins and teach this guy how to dress? shirt, pant cuffs, watch. really, only thing worse would be socks-n-sandals. we're not expecting GQ, just "have-a-clue". then again, you DO make the CAR look better.....
Yes I agree with you guys $60.000 is a lot for a Kia right now. But who knows in the near future, hyundai has the Genesis. Which they advertise as a separate product, and is working (do I need to mention Kia and hyundai are pretty much the same?) My point is when Toyota started with Lexus, do you think everyone accepted the price tag? Or do you think they also faced people who said $60.000 is way too much for a Toyota??? We need to think that companies do not build products to change buyers perception straight away, but rather to create a change over time.
American Cars - Unreliable and plasticky but big numbers Euro Cars- Mediocre reliability, great styling, expensive Japanese Cars- Lacks traditional luxury styling but ridiculously reliable Korean Cars- Starting to be reliable, Very price worthy, but brand image is a little poor
Is it me or the grill is fairly similar too the Skoda Vision C (look it up if you haven't seen it already)? Apparently the French are quite exited about the Skoda so if that were to be the case, K900 may have a shot internationally. As for brand battle in USA, just like anything new, people will have to warm themselves into the idea. But badge aside it does look like a very good bang for the buck. Remembers Mercedes & even Maserati brought in their entry level cars to target different market. Kia is going the opposite direction but I think it's a great thing to offer options to buyers.
+Gordaton I like audi but I found the cadenza so I want that one instead. I did want the chrysler 200 2015 s but it was a piece of crap so I didn't buy it. cadenza so far is the one I'm Goin for its like a cross between an audi and bmw..kinda
+MrCali357 ...not about realiabilty? All about what people think? I don't give a rat turd what others think of my car purchase. As far as being percieved as poor...my personal banker and stock broker know better. As do I. So all the snobs of the world can go sit on a traffic cone for all I car.
***** Here's the thing...many rich folks, particularly those who were born into it, don't buy new Benz' and BWMs all the time. They buy a car and will keep it/drive it for 8-10 years. Many will buy Hondas and, yes, Kias because they put their money in other, profitable ventures. They realize cars are an expense. For those who have businesses, they may indeed get a Benz or BMW, as they can expense the hell out of them on their taxes. But really rich folks aren't impressed with cars like they used to. They're more impressed by the schools their kids go to (from pre-school on), the homes and neighborhoods they live in, the country club they belong to, etc. Anyone can buy a $100,000 car, if they live in a shock or the car itself. Harder for someone to live in the 'right' neighborhood, be in the 'right club' and go to the 'right' schools.
Yes I do realize that. Do you realize that it's still a Kia for $60k? How about a Infiniti Q50 then? Save yourself $12 grand. Kia just does not have the historic lineage of BMW ,Infiniti and others.
I'm not a fan of Korean cars but they've come a long way since 1990's and they are the cheap alternative for a lot of expensive Japanese and German luxury cars. they still need to work on steering though I've tried one and didn't really like it. I love driving and that's a minus point besides that it's an awesome car.
No offense to Kia but those with the right mind with 50k to blow off on a car would go for a Mercedes, BMW, Lexus, or Audi before thinking about a Kia.
LOL yeah get your equiped shitty 3 series C classes and Audi A 4... u fucking moron thinks driving a BMW is being VIP. Any one can buy a BMW, when you have a Porsche then bash.
Exactly! Kia and hyundai are just econo box disposable cars. I've always seen them as cheap and generic, And there is nothing these two brands can do to change that!
Pedro Pedrosoy A4 is only $35k. I'm sure one of these brands have more luxurious models at the $50k price range. Plus, those who buy cars at that price range want it for the prestige it brings, which the Kia brand doesn't come close to offering compared to the others.
Pedro Pedrosoy I agree it is a great car. I'm not denying that this is a great car, but what I'm saying is Kia does not hold the same stature as a Mercedes, Lexus, Audi, or BMW. Usually when people pay that much for a car, they go for a well known name brand that comes with prestige wherever their logos are.
I did look at the Hyundai Genesis and the Kia k900. although I did pick the Genesis, that was one excellent review on a that car. You are exactly right, about the badge, it's a true mind game. But like you said, keep an open mind. Hyundai and Kia has come a long way and they are both excellent picks of a car Thank you
I like cars, always have. But I'm not a brand snob. I don't envy people for what they have or what they make, and I don't care at all what people think of me. I only revere and worship God the Father, God the Son-the Lord Jesus Christ, and God the Holy Spirit. And I do care what They think of me and the relationship that we have. So, now that you know where I'm coming from, I must say that this car is exactly what I would buy for a luxury sedan, if I had money. I like everything about it, including the looks. And I wouldn't have to feel guilty for over-indulging myself. I could do a lot of good for folks with the 40-50k I'd save over a comparable Merc or Bimmer.
Dont know what religion has anything to do with buying your car doesn't really matter. Just say everything there is that you like and thats it. And there is nothing wrong with rewarding yourself..Over indulging is not a sin. Sorry I also believe in the trinity and dont go out tell everyone about. Feels like your religious just saying.
Korean cars are good, but until they don't stop copying German and Japanese style cars for interior and exterior, they will not earn much respect among luxury car buyers.
Gotta laugh at these muppets who think Japanese can do proper luxury cars. Germans definitely DO make great luxury cars but the Japanese? You're high, right? There is a reason why in Europe Lexus and Infiniti get massacred in the market by BMW, Mercedes and Audi. Because nobody gives a damn about them.
You need to expand your horizons further and stop being such an ignorant. The number one luxury car sold in north America has been Lexus for the last 20 years. USA itself has more population than the majority of the Europe all together. Lexus is sold in middle east far more than other cars, and it dominates the Asian market. The majority of Europe is in financial crisis and families can't afford owning multiple cars, so Lexus has focused its market on rich areas. Do yourself a favor and use Google to educate yourself.
Pete Mason you are so ignorant its amazing. in the us we appreciate luxury cars of all kinds, not just the well known luxury brands. this car is all the bmw for less. and lexus makes a better looking car (Lexus is350 f sport) and just as well performing at the bmw 3 series. trust me japanese luxury cars can be just as good if not better than the german rivals.
The first time I saw the K900 I was dazzled by the headlights, now not so much. The car has all the luxury you could ask for, but I'm not sure any of the high priced, high end cars are worth it anymore. Especially when it comes to repairs, which most people don't think about when buying. For example, one (1) shock absorber on a Mercedes E class with air suspension went bad, to replace one leaking shock tower strut was $1.195.00 + about $300 - 400 dollars labor to install it, so you're looking at about $1,500 for ONE shock replacement, which in and of itself a shock!
Great review..I went from an SUV to a Kia Cadenza with every last feature I wanted and I love it. Finally got a car that has everything I need without breaking the bank. You're right if the badges were removed and someone got in this vehicle they wouldn't know what brand it would be. People are still stuck on the hype not that these premium names we know are overrated...just overpriced.
BMW 740 has 105 hp less than the k900 v8 Audi a8 has no panoramic sunroof 87 less hp than the k900 Lexus ls has 34 hp less and shorter wheel base Mercedes S cost $2290 nappa leather and its optional with 7 speed transmission this Kia has 8 and comes standard with all this stuff and still cost 30k less lol your funny
For the ones that says its just a kia and they bad and stuff. I bought 98 kia sportage 4x4 4 years ago for 500$ pretty good shape at the time and just needed a exhaust system. so i put on a cat back duels coming out the back. Which sounds awesome by the way:) And the truck been going strong still till this day. Sure it has rust problems and it did need the keyway fixed on the crankshaft which is all fixed now:) But the thing i notice about it now im not sure if all the other kias are like this. This truck does never let me on the side of the road as others does even when it was on its last legs because of the keyway damage it still kept on going and always gets me home. these trucks just keep on going. And the first gen sports is the last of the true sportages with the real transfer case real frame instead of unibodys.. They did make a mistake going to unibody but other company did the same too. So pretty much this puts kia good in my mind:) I have a good bit of other cars and trucks too. Pretty much like geos they seem to have bad rep but do you ever see how much abuse those cars take??? ps i also have a 94 geo tracker:) But yea pretty much every company has problems when they get up in age which is normal. usely after 10 years. It is nice that kia gives 10 year bumper to bumper worry free for 10years. Most people usely trades there cars in within it or even less so its really no problem for those people.. Me im the person that keeps the oldies :) Dont really like the new sportages much i mean they not bad but not my style. But this k900 sure does look nice and has grunt! But at the moment to rich for my blood lol.
HYUNDAI's AND KIA's ARE CRAPPY CARS! I'm a technician at a Hyundai dealer in New Jersey and I can tell you guys from personal experience that Hyundai's and Kia's (Hyundai owns Kia) are both poorly made cars. To save money, Hyundai and Kia use cheap metal that rust almost immediately off the showroom floor. The rims that Hyundail and Kia use are made out of cheap, soft aluminum that bends on even the smallest of pot holes. The engines are not very well tuned from the factory and are blowing up all over the place. I can not tell you how many engines I've had to replace in the last year. They also have at least three recalls a month over the dumbest things. And finally the interior may look nice but behind the dashboard are cheap components that I'm always having to replace.
I know many people who have both Hyundais and Kias and they have experienced none of the issues you describe. According to the NHTSA, they have received 40 complaints about rust in Hyundai vehicles... well below the industry average. While I'm sure that individual cars can have issues, the idea that this is a widespread issue simply isn't borne out by the facts. My wife's Hyundai is coming up on ten years old and approaching 200,000 miles and in spite of the worst that New England winters can throw at this car, it is free of rot. As for Hyundai engines "blowing up all over the place"... don't be ridiculous.
You're definitely not a qualified Hyundai/Kia technician. Judging by analyzing multiple criteria, such as your subscriptions, grammar, and the lack of knowledge about Hyundai Corp in general I'd say you are more like a teenage male around 13-19. Metal is the least of the problems in hyundai, they were one of the biggest shipbuilders (still is, building Containerships, Drillships, LNG Carriers, Warships) in the world, and if the engineering department knows one thing there, its anti corrosion methods (saltwater being one of the worst things to expose to metal in nature)
Greg35RS is a fraud. He posted the exact same bullshit on my car test web page. I also noted this clown sent the e-mail at Monday 9am in the morning when he should have been at work at the dealer, not sitting home writing BS emails.
well you certainly haven't worked on an American car ahve you greg?? have you owned a lincoln, cadillac or even a chevy? cost-cutting initiatives are the key proponents of American car companies and it shows. I can't own them, I'd rather own a kia than a chevy or caddy.
It's not about impressing others with "lookie over here, this is my Benz!" It's about pleasing yourself and saving money which is really smarter! You are making good money and SAVING said money. I mean, if I could afford a luxury car AND save tens of thousands of dollars, who cares what the other luxury car drivers think of what I am ENJOYING at that moment? I was checking out a friend's 2014 KIA Forte SX Hatchback in medium gray metallic loaded. I was impressed! The engine rev, the acoustics, the interior design. He said to me..... "but it's a KIA" And I said "who cares? this is HOT" Ehhh he isn't even 30 yet. He doesn't have a clue.......
I feel like kia selected people to review their car that they knew would give it good reviews and not say anything negative, like anything negative at all.
I just bought a 2016 Hyundai Sonata Sport. That's my luxury car for now that fits my budget. Hopefully in 15 years when my house is paid off I can afford something like this. Beautiful car.
I like that you have a sense of finance unlike most people who are so obsessed over German luxury brands, just because the name gives off the impression of being "well off". I would gladly finance this K900 over a German luxury brand. The 10 year powertrain warranty is the big seller here, it looks unique imo and it feels great inside, zero cheap bits.
Loved the video and the car.. I just recently bought my first kia and im in love with it.. clossent thing I could get to luxury in my kia forte ex 2014, because all the other brands withing my price range dont offer that and im loving the waranty.
bit of an odd question but does anybody now what kind of mic he is using to record his voice in this video?? I need a mic like this but have no idea what these mics are called and how much they are, thanks..
This car needs another generation to match the refinement of the LS, which lets be honest, this is what KIA was going after with this car. This man is being nice but if you go to other reviews, you'll see that there is a sense of graininess in the engine response and delivery and unrefined suspension reflexes and not-as-exuberant materials that will keep riders going to back to the LS. The LS has had 4 generations of refinement and current model, even though its a design from 2006, still holds a good place in the market place. Can't say the same about the K900 in 2022 I'll suspect. I think KIA and Hyundai can do luxury but they haven't gone to "extra mile" to get their foot in this space like Lexus did back in 1990 with the LS400. Their offerings have been "good" when they should be "spectacular" since they are foreign to this market and aren't coming in with the badge prestige to back any obvious faults.
I agree. I picked one up couple months ago , white on white, vip, v8 20k miles for 30k. gave me 7k for my trade in. happy with the purchase. great car. I would never pay 60k for it. at 30k it's a bargain
I don't care if it is called, KIA, Hyundai Genesis or Audi, if it drives great, has a good engine, looks half decent and is awesome value ! Then people can think what they want to!
I agree as well!
Charley Hawkins same here
***** u right.. I'll take a gs350 instead Lexus quality Toyota reliability instead
Maybe they could've made a personalized badge for that car. I mean, that KIA sign just doesn't fit the car's price or look.
Congrats to Kia for not just copying what the Japanese and American manufacturers and slapping on a badge to fool people. They had the balls to call it what it is, and that's how you grow a brand. Mercedes didn't start out with an S Class.
Actually that argument is invalid. The Hyundai Genesis has a personalized badge, and considering that they are partnering Korean companies, it's not a bad thing.
iMaX Clan I think you don't know the definition of "personalized"
iMaX Clan kind of like what Hyundai has tried with Genesis and Equus badging
+iMaX Clan If you want a different cooler looking badge just get the 3.0 K emblem. It's pretty awesome.
That's actually gorgeous. Kudos Kia.
This car is worth every penny! I own one and am extremely happy with it. He is right about the feel of the steering, but I could care less about that. Can care less of the badge also because when you're in this car, you feel expensive!
Agreed. I'm on my second Kia (started at the K5 and now at the K7) and my sights are on the K9. The brand has EARNED my respect.
@@Jkp564 your right
Kia has without-a-doubt come a long way. I saw one of these in going into Boston today and was blown away by how gracious it looked. Coming up on the rear, I thought it was a Mercedes, or a new BMW no one had ever seen, but a Kia? This car is setting the bar!!!
Autobytel should have this guy doing more reviews ! Amazing review man thumbs up 👍🏽
"Oh, you drive a $100K Mercedes? HERE'S MY $60K KIA, WHICH DOES THE EXACT SAME SHIT."
Good for Kia. I don't know if I'd want to be the Guinea Pig, but it's nice to see a car company evolve over time as much as they have.
+ShantyGaming AND... rapidly!!
Oxford Nordberg they give 10 years guarantee in the US? In Europe it's "just" 7 years. Still unbeatable by others though.
***** i didnt know that. but yes in the us it's 10yr, 100k mile powertrain and 5yr 60k on your bumper to bumper. This is double and triple the industry norm
Well, for $1,400 they will extend the bumper to bumper warranty to 10 yr/100,000 miles.
Kia knocked it out of the park with this one. What kills me is Kia has now surpassed Acura as a near luxury automobile builder.
Kia is awesome😄
You are one hell of a showman for a company. You are very knowledgeable and you add a bit of inspirational value for the viewer. Great job my friend !
Someone's gotta make money and pay workers. it's a cycle
A thoroughly impressive car. Given its spec, features and design I'm pretty sure it'll be causing some sleepless nights at Lexus and Infiniti.
MrChevypower Dumbest statements I've ever heard! None of your attempted points are valid. Quick question what model kia do you have? LOL
He really describe this very k900 Kia very well, and this is the best Kia have ever made. Luxury!!!
Nice car!!!Good vid!!!
Excellent Review and very well put..Just how this car will be seen and perceived.
I would buy one...in a second!
KIA is coming out with some really cool and gorgeous cars ...
I love how this is a younger-looking luxury car. I would totally get one if I was in the market. Great job Kia!!
120 grand??? for a 550i....its like 90 tops
PanicAtTheKFc
The S6 Starts @320,000 SAR if u want to add for example alcantara headliner it costs 9700 SAR, if want everything it will cost 450,000 SAR = 119990.25 US Dollar ! :'(
oh i thought you where taking American currency..
PanicAtTheKFc If you are in India, you're looking at over $200,000 for the S6!
Saudis love American cars even though they're crap, and Mercedes has no respect in Saudi or anything German it's all about the Lexus. You can't beat a Toyota AC in a 120 F weather!
that car looks cleaaaan.. all the bell and whistles and not spending that ridiculous amount. seeing them used for 30k!! got my attention!
Darwin Hamilton But the prices will soar. Isn't that exactly what Lexus did?
If I had the money, Absolutely
You can find them now for 20-25k with low miles. I've really been looking into one since the price dropped.
Me to
I’ve been lookin around
I think that they should better create sub brand like lexus or infinity. kia is fine, but it's not prestigious. what do you drive? big kia. well that's nice
But there goes another problem, it would sound like a brand nobody have ever heard before, and when they said is a sub brand from Kia, I'm not so sure....
Jeremy Lai Wai Kit
lexus was established only in 1989, so it's possible
Jeremy Lai Wai Kit When you tell someone that you drive a KIA K900 or as the call it Quoris in my country, theres a very high chance that people wouldnt know the difference between this and the kia cerato or a kia Ce'ed, even if you explain how its as good as an E class and even better in someways people would still say its a KIA, But if it was a sub brand, you could explain it to them that its a new luxury brand and get away with owning a KIA. Im sure the guys over at kia have thought about this and probably thought it was better to stick to improving kias image.
I bet if you drove it . and you might be like uuuuhhhhh damn... I was wrong.
aron john also the guy that is designing these cars was from audi . so .....yeah......
I own the first model 2015 kia k900 & I honestly love my car. Yea it's a kia but when you experience it personally, a silly badge doesn't even matter. Beautiful car inside & out. 💯
This car is just awesome hands down way to go Kia!!!
a very educational review that includes a lesson on "aspirational goal"
The thing about this car is that, yeah, it looks good in and out, but that's only because Kia "borrowed" most of what it is from real luxury brands. That gear shifter is right out of a BMW, the electric seat adjusters is pure Mercedes, and the list extends to nearly every other part of the car. This is why Kia and Hyundai can't make their own luxury brand: because no one wants a copy.
I soooo agree with you, they need to be more unique and not copy others!
I agree. It does look like the GS on the side.
Job Well Done KIa !! Reviewer Hit All Selling Points Too !!
Kia haters step aside lol. This Kia should do quite well, I mean they do have an Audi designer as their president I doubt if he's going to design a car that is going to fail.
Well look at a Genesis sedan sales numbers vs. an E Class MB. That says all.
Djonkie Bonk lets wait 5 years and see how many Genesis are on the road vs an E class
You really make a GREAT video, I am very very impressed with your videos!!
Everyone knows a Lexus is just a dressed-up Toyota.
Creating a separate brand is a waste of time and money.
Gwynne66 Then why is Lexus making so much money? Bentley uses the underpinnings of the VW Phaeton--guess they should have put the VW name on it? You know nothing about marketing. Not creating a separate brand is a big mistake.
you are correct
chad haire
These faux-luxury brands only exist in the US because manufacturers believe that only Americans are stupid enough to fall for it.
Some 2014 New Gensis 3.8 could be a bargain choice for over 9000 off MSRP (selling price 27240). Price is similar to Honda Accord EX-L V6.
But u feel the difference driving the car. It will never feel like an audi
Gah, I hate to admit it, but you are absolutely right. Only a fool would disagree with you. All cars these days feature navigation, all cars these days feature relatively powerful engines even in the sub - $35k USD range. All cars these days feature all these so-called "goodies"
gabriel martinez The Audi A3 shares it platform with an economy car Jetta. There are some economies cars that feel just as well built as luxury cars.
Gordon Mccracken but your comparing the cheapest audi with an economy car, trust me..I oan an A4 audi quattro and drive over 20 differrent cars everyday working at a rental car company.
Own*
From the side, the 900 bears a more than passing resemblance to the Citroen C5. At 65 grand, it seem like pretty good value.
That's why the Germans are forced to sell their lesser models in the US, like the CLA or A3.
Kia Motors has been gaining more recognition overseas, i believe you guys!!!
The bottom line is that you're paying $60,000 for a Kia.
Pass.
***** The badge is ugly
they should of just made another division like Toyota lexus acura Honda Maserati Ferrari
OKAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! u'd have to be a fool!
ant a Starting a new car brand is crazy expensive and would have increased the cost of the car. It shouldn't matter what the badge is if the car is made well. Also you do know that Ferrari is not a luxury brand of Maserati. They were both independent car companies until they were both eventually bought by Fiat.
that's because your closed minded
mlindgren1 well put
My friend's shop took in a KIA SUV that hit a pot hole, It wiped out all the suspension! Just a pot hole? And all suspension pieces had to be replaced?
Nice car...probably way more reliable than anything that toyota (the recall king of the road) makes...including lexus. I'd buy it over a lexus any day.
i really like the way this guy thinks! makes a lot of sense, brilliant video!

Truth
I doubt this would sell as a bmw because bmw's sell soley off their good looks and sporty driving dynamics. Unless you're buying a 7 series in which youre wanting more luxury than sport. This car has neither sportiness or good looks so even with a bmw badge it wouldnt sell
Grant Schneider yeah, and it does look more like a Lexis. Either way. It's a nice car in my opinion.
+IlikeBball234 its true, if this car had bmw, mercedes, or even lexus it would be selling a ton of units. I actually plan on taking advantage of the kia name though. The value of these cars plummet, i recently found a 2015 fully loaded k900 with 4k miles for 25k below msrp. that means you can get this luxury for mid to high 40's if you buy used.
do the seat belts work ? my boy had to be cut out by fire department seat belt was choking him would not release kept on tightening .
and $70K's? F..k KIA and get a nice Lexus instead, that will serve you forever.
is $ 60,000
Ad tax and registration fees and delivery charges. It will be more than 70K's
I talk about the Lexus GS due of the price point is close to the Kia. and I talk about the Lexus LS due is a rival of Kia K900. you can get all the features of the Kia K900 on the Lexus LS but at that point is over $100,000
430 HP RWD V8 KIA?!? Wow, good job KIA, I'm really starting to look forward to that GT4 Stinger...
No no no, I don't want steering feel! I want complete disconnection and isolation from the road! Luxury, remember, luxury!

Sorry. but I'd rather buy a used Acura, Lexus or Infinity over this.
You didn't even mention the heads up display or the lane change assist.
could someone take 3mins and teach this guy how to dress? shirt, pant cuffs, watch. really, only thing worse would be socks-n-sandals. we're not expecting GQ, just "have-a-clue". then again, you DO make the CAR look better.....
We're reviewing the car not him
Yes I agree with you guys $60.000 is a lot for a Kia right now. But who knows in the near future, hyundai has the Genesis. Which they advertise as a separate product, and is working (do I need to mention Kia and hyundai are pretty much the same?)
My point is when Toyota started with Lexus, do you think everyone accepted the price tag? Or do you think they also faced people who said $60.000 is way too much for a Toyota??? We need to think that companies do not build products to change buyers perception straight away, but rather to create a change over time.
oh ya'll so negative. the k900 is actually great
the front end is a bad copy of Jaguar
It looks nicer than a jag
let me know if any of the lexus models or toyotas have all the features that this kia has and is under 70k. thanks...
American Cars - Unreliable and plasticky but big numbers
Euro Cars- Mediocre reliability, great styling, expensive
Japanese Cars- Lacks traditional luxury styling but ridiculously reliable
Korean Cars- Starting to be reliable, Very price worthy, but brand image is a little poor
Lol I'm not that into the luxury cars, but I do dig the looks
Honestly I do think I will pick up a Korean car in the next 5 years probably though
Korean cars need to thank Mitsubishi. If Mitsubishi didn't build engines for them in the past, KIA/Hyundai would not be alive today.
Mitsubishi made a lot of cars for Chrysler as well. Every modern day non hemi engine is a rebadged Mitsubishi engine
In addition american cars : drink gasoline like water and not durable, ugly shape
This evaluation sounds like it was done by someone who was hired by Kia. His level of excitement and gushing is nauseating.
where did you record that? like where were you driving when you recorded yourself, that place looks really nice
According to Consumer Reports, Kia's are more reliable than BMW and Mercedes. Just saying.....
+Gordaton I like audi but I found the cadenza so I want that one instead. I did want the chrysler 200 2015 s but it was a piece of crap so I didn't buy it. cadenza so far is the one I'm Goin for its like a cross between an audi and bmw..kinda
A well known fact. German car reliability is pure hype!
+MrCali357 ...not about realiabilty? All about what people think?
I don't give a rat turd what others think of my car purchase. As far as being percieved as poor...my personal banker and stock broker know better. As do I.
So all the snobs of the world can go sit on a traffic cone for all I car.
+MrCali357
An idiot who can't spell isn't a reliable source for "proven facts"
James Spader is doing a good job with car journalism
That's way too much cash for the K900 when you can get a 4 series BMW for less.
you realize the 4 series is a compact car while the k900 is a full size luxury barge. This is the size of a 7 series.
Yes I do realize that. Do you realize that it's still a Kia for $60k? How about a Infiniti Q50 then? Save yourself $12 grand. Kia just does not have the historic lineage of BMW ,Infiniti and others.
sportsmansparadice42 Snob
Matt Macksamie Snob? Those cars are cheaper than the Kia. So does that make me a frugal snob? LOL!
Agree 100% $60K+ for a Kia is way too much money!
I'm not a fan of Korean cars but they've come a long way since 1990's and they are the cheap alternative for a lot of expensive Japanese and German luxury cars. they still need to work on steering though I've tried one and didn't really like it. I love driving and that's a minus point besides that it's an awesome car.
I love my K-9, I traded my BMW in.
Earlando Johnson BMWs and Mercs are not for everyone Hyandai and KIAs are though
Kems ....it's normal everybody have bmw and Mercedes it's not rolls-Royce ..
عبدالإله الميموني I suppose you're from Lebanon right?!
No ...i'm from saudi arabia
عبدالإله الميموني Weird I thought all of you guys own hilux and ddsens XD!!!
Totally agree with every single word has been said about this luxurious ride.. I'm having one
D Money certainly not for any closed-minded people.
Jesus walked across the desert barefoot and you covet a luxury car . Not sure he would be impressed.
I'd buy it in a heartbeat if I could... Way to go Kia!
Korean cars are good, but until they don't stop copying German and Japanese style cars for interior and exterior, they will not earn much respect among luxury car buyers.
You can't just build a car that looks like a 2030 concept. The design has to be modern and similar to what is on the market for new cars in 2014.
South korea has mb aufi bmw markets are really good. But japanese cars were not even close in korea.
4:42 look at the back seat on the left lol. looks like Casper was in there as well
65K no thanks.... Pass!!!
The first time I saw the K900 I was dazzled by the headlights, now not so much. The car has all the luxury you could ask for, but I'm not sure any of the high priced, high end cars are worth it anymore. Especially when it comes to repairs, which most people don't think about when buying. For example, one (1) shock absorber on a Mercedes E class with air suspension went bad, to replace one leaking shock tower strut was $1.195.00 + about $300 - 400 dollars labor to install it, so you're looking at about $1,500 for ONE shock replacement, which in and of itself a shock!
non functional side vents
INTO THE TRASH IT GOES
BMW E46 M3. BMW S54 M Coupe. Legendary cars. Non-functional side vents. I think you need to rethink your assessment.
still unforgivable
You do realize that most "performance" luxury cars have fake vents right? In BMW's case, they even have fake sounds for the M5...
Only issue i see with this car is those atrocious wheels
I'd like them if they weren't chrome finished I think...
Would live to see a review of the 2015 Acura tlx
$59,500 for a KIA
HELL NO
PASS
Check eBay after a week I'm quit sure they'll have for sale a lot lot cheaper, don't be alarmed at that stupid high price.
BMW 740 has 105 hp less than the k900 v8
Audi a8 has no panoramic sunroof 87 less hp than the k900
Lexus ls has 34 hp less and shorter wheel base
Mercedes S cost $2290 nappa leather and its optional with 7 speed transmission this Kia has 8 and comes standard with all this stuff and still cost 30k less lol your funny
For the ones that says its just a kia and they bad and stuff. I bought 98 kia sportage 4x4 4 years ago for 500$ pretty good shape at the time and just needed a exhaust system. so i put on a cat back duels coming out the back. Which sounds awesome by the way:)
And the truck been going strong still till this day.
So pretty much this puts kia good in my mind:)
I have a good bit of other cars and trucks too.
Pretty much like geos they seem to have bad rep but do you ever see how much abuse those cars take??? ps i also have a 94 geo tracker:)
But yea pretty much every company has problems when they get up in age which is normal. usely after 10 years. It is nice that kia gives 10 year bumper to bumper worry free for 10years. Most people usely trades there cars in within it or even less so its really no problem for those people.. Me im the person that keeps the oldies :)
Dont really like the new sportages much i mean they not bad but not my style.
I own an 03 Sedona and I've never had any problem you have listed. It has been very reliable to me
I know many people who have both Hyundais and Kias and they have experienced none of the issues you describe.
LOVE IT!! Its the best looking in its segment....plus 9 speed transmission...too sweet! Jeep is doing big things!!
I feel like kia selected people to review their car that they knew would give it good reviews and not say anything negative, like anything negative at all.
You missed to quote Indo-British Jaguar XJL as one of its rival as well.
Its always about the brand lol its a good car and i bet its even worth the cost. I honestly would enjoy it as a daily driver !!!
JayzBeerz Will we still be a Sovereign country in 15 yrs? If so, you will thank Trump.
Loved the video and the car.. I just recently bought my first kia and im in love with it.. clossent thing I could get to luxury in my kia forte ex 2014, because all the other brands withing my price range dont offer that and im loving the waranty.
How much would you guys be willing to pay for this car?
bit of an odd question but does anybody now what kind of mic he is using to record his voice in this video??
