I returned to Tokyo over twenty-five years ago to fill-in for someone who was on vacation. At that time, the one on Ginza was still in operation. I think that was the "Tact," but I'm not sure. As far as the "Lambre" is concerned, I can't remember where that was located. However, the the "Kompal" was no longer around. Sad, because that had been the classiest coffee shop in Tokyo. Oh, the "Tact" was still in business, but its appearance had deteriorated considerably. I guess they didn't have the money for a redecoration. (Tue Jan 10, 2023)

Absolutely superb! A hauntingly beautiful melody which speaks to all the sorrow and sadness in your heart, and yet somehow comforts it as well. Some of that same spirit may be found in Albinoni’s Adagio, as well as Samuel Barber’s Adagio for strings.
What a marvellous marriage of Bach/Marcello's haunting music and the imagery of Tarkovsky. Thanks for posting this.

This is such a beautiful moving piece and video. Is that an angel I see at the very beginning of the video? It evokes so many feelings of loved ones lost from the past, and I had a beautiful German Shepard like this one in my life I miss too.

Alessandro Marcello (1669-1747) was an Italian nobleman and dilettante who dabbled in various areas, including poetry, philosophy, mathematics, and, music.
Although his works are infrequently performed today, Marcello is regarded as a very competent composer. One of his concertos, in D minor for oboe, strings, and basso continuo, is perhaps his best-known work. Its worth was attested to by Johann Sebastian Bach who transcribed it for harpsichord (BWV 974). 2:02 [Last fm]

Nostalgia (Tarkovsky). I recall watching this at age 25 & wondering why I felt that I would also have disappointed the blonde interpreter woman. I don't know why I expected to see this sequence in sepia. Bach & Tarkovsky: I don't think of Nostalgia but Solaris, the religious piece on the organ. I like that. Nice playing. I like music written for oboe, but it often seems there was less written for it as time went by (ditto the clarinet). Ditto. What an elegant word.
