The Pigmy Owl for me. The framing is incredible. Refraining from nasal-hair photography in favour of telling the story is a mark of a true Pro 👏👏
I appreciate it my friend 🙏
25 images that anybody would be thrilled to get in a lifetime and you got them in a year. Awesome work Steve, thank you for sharing :)
Thanks 👍
All 25 of them are absolutely beautiful photos. You should be proud.
Thanks!🙏
The disclaimer gets me every time.
My favorites of these 5 were the last two. The focus on the Ram with the pose and the symmetry were great. I too liked the addition of the leaves with the Pygmy owl.
Thanks!🙏
Fabulous 25 photos Steve. Great to hear your explanations of how each picture was made.
Masterful work and beautiful images Steve. Thank you for sharing your work with the world.
Thanks!🙏
Oh Steve those last 3 images are just superb, real class.
Thank you very much 🙏
All wonderful shots Steve! Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it
What a wonderful and inspirational series Steve. Looking forward to seeing what you create in 2023!
Thank you my friend 🙏
All great images, Steve. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it
Great final 5 images. My favorite photo was the pigmy owl from this 5. Thanks for sharing your 25 favorite images. Looking to your next video.
Thanks!🙏
A great series! So many good photos! Thank you for sharing
A nice watch of all 25 pictures. Your last picture was a nicely balanced image of subject and colour. Looking back over one’s own pictures does throw up some gems. A worthwhile exercise for us amateur wildlife photographers. Looking forward to the next video.
Awesome images! Thanks for sharing!
Watched this whole series and it was great. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very cool, Thanks!
Watched all of them and each set got better. Hard to do when you start with amazing.
Thanks!🙏
These were great! I enjoyed all 5 videos. Looking forward to my day workshop with you in September.
👍
Really great set of images. I can see why they’re in your favorites from the past year. You’re photos are always worth looking at.
Many thanks!
Awesome images as always Steve...thanks for sharing and teaching more regarding composition and what makes them your favorites.
Glad you enjoyed it
thanks for the videos. I love to hear and see your process with wildlife compositions.
Glad you like them!
Thank you for this I really enjoyed the entire collection.
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing this series of 5 videos. Stunning images and great to have some info into the background behind each image. Gotta love the Z9 and its capabilities, particularly as the camera improved through 2022 with the various firmware updates. Cheers
Thanks! And I agree about the Z9...
Portfolio quality images. Impressive, thanks for sharing Steve
Glad you enjoyed it
I love what you do. Been a subscriber for some time now. Don't take what you do for granted. In the last three years, I have had two brain surgeries, one major seizure and cataract surgery. I'm hoping and praying this is the year that I can produce good images again. Would love to meet you in the future. We may be coming through your area this fall on our way to Colorado to visit our son.
By the way, love the headshot of the moose. I would name him Frank as in "old blue eyes". Great shot!
Thanks, I definitely appreciate what I do… and I hope your health improves soon so you can get back out there👍
Fabulous series of films Steve, I’m glad you are not asking for a favourite because they are all very special images with their own qualities and appeal! Looking forward to seeing what you create throughout 2023, stay safe and keep inspiring please! Cheers!
Many thanks!
Steve, amazing images once again. The Moose portrait is iconic. One day I hope to get out west, thank you.
excellent review ... all 25 ... well worth watching, so many thanks Steve
Glad you enjoyed it
You had a great year!!
🙏
Thanks again for this series Steve. Great format, breaking it into 10-15m portions that are easily watched. This series has been both beautiful and informative.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love the Pygmy Owl image! But all 25 are fantastic!!
Thanks so much!
Really enjoying the various environmental shots. Your shots have great context and composition, Steve. And some absolutely fantastic shots from last year.
Thanks!🙏
Really enjoy your videos! Your top 25 are very inspiring.
Thanks so much!
Amazing work! Best in the business. I watched all the shows . Of the 25 I like thee Moose in the snow as number 1 and the owl with the sharp face and wings blurred as close number 2.
Thanks 👍
Great images Steve.
Thanks!
I made the vlog / youtube! Might be the highlight of my career lol. Thanks for the shoutout Steve. Another great set of images.
Hahaha! See you again soon I hope👍
Very awesome series thanks for sharing those with us. Heading to Yellowstone/Grand Teton in August and September. Hope to get some good images of while we are there.
Have fun!
Shoutout to homeboy Jersey Mike!

Nice finale of a great series 👏
Thanks!🙏

Glad to hear it!
Thank you for all of the inspirational photos. I wish I could hit the like button 25 times.
Thanks!🙏
I would have been happy to capture at least one of your 25....and on your side this is the selection of the year among many other good shot i guess! just awesome!
The place you leave help, but your knowledges and skills turn it to something really special.
Thanks for sharing , grretings from France
Thank you very much 🙏
Wow! Beautiful!! Narrowing down a full year to 25 shots, quite a challenge in itself.
Yes it was!
Fantastic!!! I’d like to see the ones that almost made the cut, too!
Beautiful images Steve! Man I have to make it out to one of your workshops some day!
Please do!
This was a sweet series of images. I did my own top 25 image review back in January. Not as good as yours, but I'm proud of them.
If I recall, only one of your Top 25 were taken in summer, and that was from late August. Do you not shoot much in the summer, or do the conditions just not favor good photography? I know the latter seems to be the case for me. Thanks, and I look forward to a great 2023 video series from you.
Yep, conditions are certainly less favorable (at least in the Tetons)
Great to see your selections, Steve. Are the roads in the Tetons open all winter long? I know Yellowstone closes but have not been to the Tetons yet.
Most roads close for the winter but there are a few they keep open
Steve These are wonderful. I particularly like the otter series with their almost pen and ink simplicity. Just wondering if you are doing anything with white balance and or exposure compensation to manage color cast etc?
I was at +2.7 on exp comp to make the snow nice and white…
@@SteveMattheis thanks very much. get home soon!
More awesome images. From your email to everyone, I’m sorry for your family issues.
🙏
I love the picture of the Pigmy Owl! Question; is the owl also holding the branch with the Vole? I ask because the branch doesn't look attached to anything like the one behind it.
It is attached to the tree. There is some fresh snow piled up that makes it look that way…
25 # 1's!
👍
I'd crop the sheep a tiny bit off the left, as it's ever so slightly off center, which bothers me a little.
Yep, I don’t know how I missed that…
The third photo my first instinct is to want to lower the exposition by a stop, but I wonder if that's not my film background wanting to see all the detail
Haha yep, I wanted less detail for this one...
Clean; sage; bullish; frosty side eye; amazing grazing; dental imaging but no butt; pigmy but not short on appeal- thanks for the visual pleasure, Steve.
