Here from Sal at What's Going on with Shipping!
Me too. Wonder how many came over from sals video?
Same 🎉
Thank you and your crew for your detailed explanation!
Really appreciate your feedback sir. Regards ♥️
Thanks for this video showing the procedure needed to drop an anchor. It shows the absurdity of ships in the Baltic Sea to accidently unknowingly dropping anchor. In other words they do it deliberately to damage cables on the bottom.
Thank you for your appreciation.

Very Nice Sir,

Thank you sir, I am currently Junior (started only 4 days ago) and sometimes have questions about reporting or understanding some things and your explanation really helped me for future anchor operations🙏 Now i need to check how to report when heaving up anchor and that's it 🙂
Wishing you a great career ahead sir. May life stay blessed.

Sir I wanted to know Why we take weight wen we engage gear of mooring winch ya during lowering anchor ya wen der is weight on rope ??if not taken weight eg anchor such big sound will come that gear will break?
Possibly the gear may break, but the maximum possibility is that the gear might slip and the anchor will free fall.
Thank you for the query.
Regards ❤️
Very nice video sir! when the anchor is lowered above the water, can the gear be disengaged first and then tighten the brakes ? in the video was opposite
Negative sir. The load is on the gear, and hence it won't be possible to disengage it. Hence, will have to tighten the brake, take load off the gear and then disengage.
Regards ❤️
@@prasobhsugadhan huge thanks sir for the fast reply! so if the gear is disengaged first without the brake tighten, the anchor would be falling down into the sea, right? And the same principle is for mooring winches: when adjusting a mooring line first the gear is engaged, the brake loosened, the rope adjusted, the brake tighten and then the gear disengaged, correct?
The principle for mooring winch is same as the anchor, but the real issue is both are acting at different axis. Anchor is on a vertical axis, while the Mooring rope is at horizontal axis.
In case of a mooring winch, there is a possibility that you will be able to de-cluth if the rope is off-tension, enabling the clutch to be disengaged.
In case of an anchor, the weight is never going to be off, since always its going to act downwards, rendering the de-clutching operation impossible due to the weight pushing on to the gear. Hence, the only way it can be released off gear, will be to tighten the brake, slightly turn the gear, enabling loss of weight on the gear, thereby enabling de-clutching.
I hope this clarifies your query sir.
Regards ❤️
@@prasobhsugadhan thank you for you time sir, well understood! All the best to you ❤️
Nice sir... Please All crew wear a safety googles during Anchoring operations as the Rust particles for anchor chain may damage eyes.
Great point sir.
Will do.
Regards ♥️.
Nice video
Thank you sir.

sir as an OS will they be teaching u certain things if u don't know on board
Sir,
If you are in good hands, they will make you an expert in your profession, but the one thing that you need will be an open mind to learn and ask.
No one learnt anything abd everything before they joined a ship. It takes time and effort.
I believe you will find great Mariners who will make you successful.
Regards ♥️
@@prasobhsugadhan waooo thanks for this word of encouragement
Please upload more videos, can i know how cap decide which side anchor we need to put
Good question sir.
I too have asked most masters the same. Each one has replied on his own logic, with cases of swinging circle, tide, and availability of anchor being included.
Honestly, i too haven't figured it out correctly.
Will update once I have a clarification.
Regards ❤️.
Why didn't you show how you resettthe devils claw.I.e how you disengage and engage it through the power button. And also the control levers u didn't show us.
I'm sorry. Maybe I missed out. Anyway, if you understood the concept.
Will do it on any other video once I make it.
Regards ❤️
Sir, anchoring time why not wearing proper ppe? ear plugs, goggles ?
My mistake sir. Thank you for pointing out.
Regards ❤️
My friend why it is two man in infront operating regarding bosun, shoudt the assisting monitoring also for dropping how many shuckles on going to confirm bosun operating
Rightly said sir,
But once we form a team, the communication happens automatically. Just by signals, or sight, its easy to find out the shackle numbers.
Basically, its a team work. I believe i couldn't capture the essence of that element on film.
Regards.
I sailed on danum 18 vessel.
Is this danum 168 vessel?
No sir, its 159

I couldn't get what you wrote as a comment sir.
I do apologize in advance for my ignorance, if any.
Could you kindly rephrase the message.

👍👍👍
❤
We had deck hose's to wash the chain & anchore as it was coming in. Hate to see the locker on this one.
Yes sir. It's true that we had a difficult time in the dry dock with chain locker. ❤️
how do you know how many shackles of anchor chain are dropped?
In normal its 3 times water depth + distance to bridge (as a rule of thumb).
Regards ♥️
sir what is 2 shackles and 3 shackles concept on deck, i see too many shackles going once moving from 2 to 3 on captan command
Sir, its a good question.
The anchor chain is made of links (which are the ones you see) and every 27.5 meters of length of link is called a shackle.
So, once 27.5 m of chain is completed, it is joined using a Kenter Shackle which will be coloured red and the links on either side will be coloured white (with respect to the number of shackle).
Suppose, its 27.5 m of chain, the first joining shackle will be painted red and a single link on either side of the shackle will be painted white.
Now, if its the 7th shackle, the Kenter Shackle will be painted red and seven links on either side will be painted white.
So, as you let go the anchor, we just watch out for the number of shackles that have passed over the gypsy.
When master gives a command for 3 shackles, he is basically aiming for 3x27.5 meters of cable length.
I believe you got an understanding.
Ping me for any further clarification.
Regards ❤️.
1 shackl is from 28 to 30 metres
You are around the ballpark figure sir.
But, 1 shackle is 27.5 meters. It is not more, not less.
Regards ❤️
Sir How to know if the anchor is touch the seabed ground
The chain will lose tension, and it won't go through the gypsy.
Also, if there is speed, the anchor will change direction from up and down to short or medium stay at once.
Captain: "Hey you there with the phone!!! Get off youtube and get to work NOW!!!"
😂😂😎♥️
i think your should to repair the break
😂😂. Already signed off a long time back sir. Also, ship might have gone to dry dock.
Anyways,

Which company you work for??
I'm a freelancer. Any company calls, I go and work.
All these videos were made on Shin Yang ships.

Kinda confused why he dropped starboard anchor and not port.

I'm home sir. Will do ASAP next contract ❤️. Thank you for watching.
Not a single thing was explained well. If it wasn't for the visual aspect, all would be lost. This video needs to be redone by a person who knows how to explain things to people who are not familiar with all this terminology. And if possible with a lighter accent.
I'm sorry if you found it unappealing.
This is the best I could do with limited resources. Kindly show me how.
