Hey dude, glad to see an update. I'm just posting this in the hopes you see it- I'm a powerlifting coach and we often refer people out with extensive chronic issues to a PT group. If you're still looking into sources of fixing this issue, and you see this, feel free to reach out in some way and I can see if they could assist you. It's likely a problem yes, but at the very least you may find additional information on solving the problem with your wrist(s). I hate to see someone lose the joy that you had experienced both with powerlifting but then also gaming etc due to a problem that seems to run you through hoops. It's a shot in the dark, but I wouldn't waste either of our time if I didn't think they could assist.

I had horrible tendonitis in both arms and hands from playing piano 4-6 hours a day. I couldn't use my hands for almost a year. After trying almost everything I ended up going to a physical therapist for musicians and got on a strength training regimen. Doing isolated strength training for my hands and forearms was the ONLY thing that helped. Resting did nothing aside from allowing my hand and forearm muscles to atrophy. Try some isolated strength training on your hands and wrists, it worked wonders for me.

If you are trying to cure chronic pain you should not neglect the psycho-emotional component. I've struggled with chronic pain for a long time and don't get me wrong, the pain is real, but emotional and psychological components can magnify it. It often doesn't help to focus purely on the physicality of the pain.

Not sure if you tried this, but there's a really good chance that doing hand/wrist stretches and mobility movements will benefit you. Not just a minute or 2 of stretching. Actually spending 10-15+ minutes daily. It made a world of a difference for me. You don't necessarily need PT. Our bodies desire functional and non repetitive movement. Give it a shot for a few days. If you have any pain, then dial it back, but continue to move. Good luck

Hope your wrist heals bro seriously man that's too bad to hear. We have to face that change and decay in this world and our bodies is inevitable. If we put all our hope in earthly things we will end up wanting and depressed. I'm telling you man, since I put my hope in Christ, to live life for Him, depression and anxiety don't have a hold on me like they once did. Our aimless wandering ends when we repent and receive forgiveness and peace from God. Jesus said "If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciple, then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free." May God bless you man, been watching your videos since the start.

It makes sense that your wrists don't know how to adapt to your lifestyle, they have immense pressure on them from the powerlifting, yet they also are in a different state while doing high intensity OSRS gains, it's like animal evolution trying to adapt to two different lifestyles at the same time, birds can't swim and fish can't fly.. I hope you find a happy balance and you start feeling better, although there is some comedic irony related to irl hobbies causing wrist pain, when the meme was always that skilling would give RSI yet you avoided it for so many years. Keep us updated on the progress, you are one of the very few OSRS people I still watch.

Hey, consider meeting with a massage therapist to talk about stiff muscles compressing on your nerves. The compressed nerve could refer pain to other areas along the innervated areas. Places to consider would be the forearm, upper arm, pecs, shoulder, and under the scap. Good luck man, I hope you can get back on your grinds.

Go low carb, high protein, and however much fat diet you can, if your body isnt healing its a nutrition issue. my whole body was aching and falling apart and i cut all carbs except fiberous veggies and eat lots of meat.
your body is lazy digesting food, if it can skim all the calories it needs from carbs you dont fully digest and utlilize the nutrition, cause whats the point. human bodys are made to do the minimum to get by.

advice from a fellow powerliftin folk. scaling back is a vicious cycle. I did that with knees and it took me two years to get back to anything substantial.
don't view pain as the stopping point, if you are at an 8 out of 10 on pain, yea, stop.
but pain can also be a sign of tendinopathy which needs to be worked through to solve the core issue of a weak tendon.
work low weight on a lift that works through the pain point of the tendon up to a "working set" that hits at a 5 out of 10 on pain. It won't make the pain go away immediately but if this is the core problem you might notice that the weight where you hit that 5 out of 10 on pain increases after some weeks. After a year and a half of trying a lot with no improvement it took me about six months doing this before I could squat and load quads completely without much over a 2/10 on pain.
    hope this helps

the health industry is a nightmare. i'm self pay and everything is fine until you need like a ct scan or any other serious situation. very difficult for me to get health insurance atm. antidotal here, long term strain on the wrists and hands is what contributed to the majority of the deterioration. then you added powerlifting so yeah it's unfortunate. i didn't power lift but my pc time, work, and weight lifting did hurt my wrists and hands. my brother also trashed his right (dominate) wrist doing the same thing. just happens if reasonable breaks aren't taken. good luck.

I have M.S. and I also have carpal and ulner tunnel I'm telling you from experience once the pain is tolerable do not stop moving you have to make your body work for you put your wrist to work and exaggerate movements and loads such as you would see in yoga or a lot of pulling and rotating exercises. You're gonna have to push yourself through what seems reasonable to gain anything near close to 100%. Good luck to you man, love the vid

  • @Chirpeh13

Wrist problems suck, but it'll definitely get better over time as long as you stay serious about healing and not pushing yourself when you feel like you're feeling okay. I ended up with similar problems myself at one point, and I didn't really take the warning signs seriously until it got to a point where I could barely even open and close my hand. Had to basically work 1-handed as much as possible, wear a splint whenever I was home, and once I had basic functionality back, minimize gaming to low-input stuff (eg. afk Runescape, JPRGs). It did gradually improve, but it was about a full year before I was felt fully recovered. Few years later, I'm still sensitive to strain but never had any pain since then, just being mindful of when I feel tension or something's putting a strain on me, and taking a break / lowering intensity. I also had a friend who really fucked himself up bad, trying to play a game at a WR level whenever he wasn't in really severe pain and just refused to take an extended break. But eventually he just physically couldn't anymore because he strained both his hands so bad and even extended the pain to his back. It happened to him not long before it happened to me, so he was kinda like my warning to not keep pushing myself for the short-term enjoyment of doing things I like once I realized I fucked myself up - I could have easily ended up like him. He did also recover a few years after that, though, and he's gaming harder than ever now, which gives me hope that however much trouble you're having right now with your injury, you can definitely make a full recovery if you're careful and listen to your body while you recover.
Anyway, it's good to hear an update from you. Best wishes and Happy New Year!

I have been dealing with a similar injury. Tendonitis, other doctors say something else. I have loose joints and hypermobility, prone to injury. Waiting tables + gym fucked it up and I can no longer play guitar or lift heavy. I’ve gotten steroid shots, physical therapy, splints, prescription anti-inflammatories. Next step is surgery with a super long recovery time. I’m thinking of trying peptides like BCP-157. Wondering if you’ve looked into that. Curious if you have any suggestions too.

You'll probably miss this because of similar messages, but I have had wrist issues for over 10 years now because of my work, gaming, and previous exercising habits, and I have been through the entire medical system with no real improvements.
Each person's case is different but what worked best for me for pain management is using compressive wrist wraps (not splints) and taking them off whenever you can, and using a Logitech Ergo M575 mouse for both work and play. I tried conventional and ergonomic laser mice however any wrist movement flares my wrist up, the M575 can be extremely awkward to use at first but it feels very natural after a while

iirc you said before the wrist pain exacerbated once you started power lifting. I think there might be some specific work outs you should avoid to be able to continue playing and lifting without pain. im assuming you tried PT and it didn't do much, but I think you should work on ergonomics at your desk, then do lots of PT (try new methods constantly) and find what irritates your wrist when powerlifting and avoid those workouts so you can continue doing things you enjoy
if you need advice about ergonomics i can help, but for now... you'd be surprised what your mouse might be doing to your wrist up to your shoulder. grip style, mouse shape, and mouse sensitivity play a big factor. if you don't use an ergo mouse, consider using one and if you use a high sensitivity that maximizes wrist motion, try lowering your sensitivity and use more arm to move your mouse. furthermore, the height of desk and chair is an obvious one but make sure you're not at some weird angle that makes using your wrist even worse. hope this helps

Weightlifting is really hard on the joints. I had similar issues when I was playing guitar, in college, and weightlifting. Good that you are taking care of it now, because if not it can get much worse. I ended up losing most of the range of motion in my wrist and had to get surgery. For me it was genetic, the ulna was too long and rubbed against the base of my hand causing inflammation and scar tissue build up. Cortisone shots can also help if you haven’t gotten one. Just be careful that you don’t overdo it if you get one, because it gets rid of a lot of the pain.

I remember when I did a forearm workout day followed by some corrupted gauntlet runs, I couldn’t use my wrist for the next week. I couldn’t turn the key in the ignition to my car, had to use my left hand.
I looked up wrist stretches on UA-cam and iced my wrist/forearm every day for three hours, 20 minutes on and 40 minutes off three times. If it is beyond overtraining or over straining perhaps it is a nerve issue. Wishing you the best in your recovery.

As a guy who's main hobbies are skiing and rock climbing but only has one fully functional limb, keep up the search, keep up the PT, it's hard but find joy in the small gains and the things you're are able to do.

Sorry to hear about your wrist man. I got a platelet rich plasma injection for a similar lifting pain. It wasn’t recommended by any doctor because it’s not covered by insurance. I had to pay out of pocket but man did it help. If it wasn’t on your radar before maybe it’s an option to look into

Wrists problems, I’ve had from intense clicking while playing league and even tick manipulation on osrs. It got so bad I couldn’t perform my daily tasks at work. Just take a break. Use different devices like laptops and tablets. Avoid using your mouse because it really messes up your wrists. The pain is sharp but it does go away. Just take a break from the click intensive stuff.

    Thanks for the update!
I struggled with chronic back pain in my mid 20s and thought everything was over for me already. I was basically paralyzed and being at work "doing what I could" was just humiliating. Less than a year later I found a good physical therapist that actually knew what was going on and I quickly recovered. I'm in my 30s now and I feel even younger than I did back then. Physical pain or constraints on your movement making you unable to do the things you know you should be able to really sucks man and I feel with you how depressing and frustrating it is. I wish you a good recovery and a better year to come.
