I love what you did to your closet. Is it possible to get the dimensions of your shelves. My closet wall dimensions is 86" (12" deep)x122" (22" deep)x30"(15.75" deep) x43.5" (15.75" deep). I am having issues coming up with widths of the hanging section and cu by section. The hanging section will be the 122" wall and the cubby section will be the 86". The other two walls will have dressers.

Hi Stefani, nice work. A suggestion for future projects -- after doing a lot of built-ins and other work in my own house, I realized it was a lot easier for me to do as much pre-finishing as possible before installing and assembling everything. Sanding all the shelves and sides, and priming and painting of the plywood parts before installing, should make things much easier. Then you only have to sand and paint the trim once it's installed, but all the shelves and cavities and all of that will already be finished. Good luck!

REALLY beautiful work. I was just lamenting to my husband how none of the UA-cam DIYers do quality work, it's all what I call '50 footers', looks good from 50 feet away, but really terrible up close. You are the exception, quality work that will stand the test of time. And beautiful to boot! Well done!!

I stumbled upon this video because I was down a home improvement/DIY UA-cam rabbit hole. I was already pretty sure I was going to subscribe, but the way you set up the knobs for the dresser to be spray painted sealed the deal, haha. There were so many things in this video where I was like, “Damn, that’s so smart! I would’ve never thought to do it that way!” I knew I was missing things when I DIYed that would make my work look more professional, but I wasn’t exactly sure how they were accomplished. This video showed all the little things that make a project look more professional and make it easier to do. Super helpful!

Makes driving those screws effortless!

Plywood and wood is overkill for a closet. It'd be cheeper, faster and better (for example: drawers with a brake) if she just used white chipboard which is cheaper and no painting needed. Making drawers all of chipboard is way lot easier than you think.

My only addition is if you're going to lay it down on concrete you should use pressure-treated lumber. Wood never stops soaking up moisture even in the desert... Eventually you will have mold and rot.

Stefani, thank you so much for your awesome videos! We used the basic idea that you created with your closet and modified it a little to fit our closet needs. We needed more hanging clothes space so we went with a single dresser in the closet along with more space for the clothes rods. Since we were building from a subfloor we went with 1x3 lumber in the floor under the bottom plywood, but your ideas really put us on the right track! The profile pic is a pic of our finished product :)

I have been looking in to D.I.Y closet system because I wanted to build one for my wife and almost gave up and just buy systems from IKEA because that seemed more reasonable to me. But your Vids changed my thoughts and attitude and brought whole new game. I will give it a try. I know it would be priceless feeling of accomplishment after all is done. Wow! First of all, your carpentry skills are incredible! 🤩 I’ve been doing a lot of research on custom closets which brought me to your UA-cam channel and three part video series; and gotta say, your custom closet build is beautifully done! May I ask what kind of lumber you used for the 2x4s and plywood? (cedar, oak, pine, etc.?) I went to your blog post to see if you mention type of wood, but I didn’t see anything on lumber aside from the cost breakdown. Anyhow- I really enjoyed this custom closet build, I’m going to watch your home office makeover series next! ☺️

When I saw you building the platform in the first part of this video, I was trying to figure out exactly what that is for. But I am thinking about it now and that would be a good way to run my low voltage wires for an LED strip. If you would have put an LED strip inside every cubby or every other Covey, there would be plenty of light. Unfortunately, I am thinking that some of your Cubbies will be hard to see. Also, what I am going to do in my pantry, which is what I am going to use my baseboard is to have a light occupancy sensor.

Although it’s a little annoying you should hook the sander up to a shop vac to help reduce the dust. Sometimes they have a direct vacuum attachment. For my dewalt sander I had to make one out of pvc pipe. I just heated it up till it was super flexible then shoved it together and let it cool. I’ve also had good luck using 2” masking tape to tape it all together for a temporary solution.

The only thing thing to point out maybe for future projects is that you should have built your 2x4 base out of treated lumber since it is in direct contact with the concrete which means it will draw moisture from the concrete. Hopefully it won't cause any problems but figured I would share that with you for next time.

A lot of places that sell wood, such as Home Depot and some Lowe’s, also cut the wood to size for no extra charge. If you get it done at those locations, I would add an additional 1/4 to 1/2 inch, and you can just power sand down to size.

All I can say, is you're my hero! I've been planning on doing the same to our closet and I am a little reluctant, and you seem fearless and you are doing this solo too! WOW. Kudos on a job well done!

I hope you left the top center cubby removable so you can use those corners for secret hiding places.

You are so bad ass. I am definitely interested in the rest of your channel. I am in the middle of my first big project, a chicken run and you have me motivated to get it done.

Like every UA-cam expert who thinks they know everything, there was a couple of spots I would do slightly different. But who cares what we think, you did some awesome work, you go girl!

Nice work. I might suggest using cloth tarps or plastic a little more often to protect floors. For example when assembling the dresser might have been good to have a tarp down to protect the floor from scratches. Same for the garage when painting the dresser drawers; lay tarps down in case the paint spills, splatters, etc. 😀
