Yes Bob Spooner Trucking is a Legend..!..
His Great looking 1961 Peterbilt Rig was unmistakable. ...and Bob is a true professional. ...
Like the older Drivers told me many moons ago..when you are ready to retire you will know it
..but it is still a difficult decision if retiring from something you love, and something that was such a big part of your life...but Bob Spooner and his rig....like so many other long time long haulers...we're on the front lines of commerce moving America foward ..way back before technology was in the industry....And we Salute them...
Driven trucker I saw your truck not to long ago looked great
@@rookietrucker9754 thanks! Where?
@@DrivenTrucking I wanna say iowa 80 but I can't really remember where it was. I would've stopped off and said hi but I had to go to a delivery
Double edge sword brother, been out here 30+ year's and 9 out of 10 times when I try to help a new guy they think they know everything so I just walk away...
That's absolutely wht happen
That’s sad to hear, I always listened, even if I knew what they were telling me was wrong there still might be a nugget or two somewhere in what that person is saying
Maybe you're not helping the right way..
I started flatbed a few months ago and so much helpful people came to me while I tie down my loads and I always listened and it helped me so much. But sometimes some old guy came by telling me I'm doing shit ? I mean No body will listen a tips if it's between 2 insults 🤷♂️
Of course it's my fault why wouldn't it be🙄, I don't insult people btw, but when I walk over and ask a young guy if he would like me to help him get back into a spot and he tells me no I got it Boomer I just shake my head and walk away, he's not even smart enough to realize that a boomer is my father's generation not mine, plus he's usually wearing flip-flops and pajama pants seems like this new breed of truck drivers can't even get dressed in the morning...but what do I know 🤷
You are producing great content Brian! Haters gonna hate. I'm watching your videos for over two years, and they are mostly positive, and they cheer me up all the time while I'm on the road. P.S. don't give haters any fame :)
Met Bob in 80. Great outlaw. Stayed in touch. Bought my 52 Pete. Came to barn and talked shop. Can’t say enough good about the Legend.
That had to be something special,
Especially around 1980.
I could just imagine, And I mean I could really just imagine.... How cool things were back then,
I started driving in 1991, Right around when the 53 footers were just getting going.
What was it like back in around 1978 to 1980 just being around those kind of guys?
@@StayingBack71 all I can say but it was real trucking. Not plastic like today. The guys actually cared about each other
I passed him, or whoever bought his truck, going east on a 2 lane back road earlier this year. And as soon as i saw that front end i immediately knew who he was! Sadly my CB wasnt hooked up so i couldnt speak to him. Super nice rig!
He ain't sold the truck yet I'm pretty sure
Thank you for not cussing or using coarse language. 👍🏻
Sir you are 💯% correct! If you can’t or will not help a fellow driver stay quiet. If you can help please do. What goes around comes around, stay positive.
Everyone started somewhere. I'm a old schooler thumbs up for you standing up and supporting us if of all of the young bucks would let go of their old life and embrace the brotherhood of trucking they would respect all of us more
Hey B! I am so jealous that you had the opportunity to meet Mr. Spooner before he hung up his hat. The first time I watched his interview (yes, I watched it more than once), it totally gave me flashbacks. I didn’t start driving truck until 1995, but I was a product of the’70s and heard stories of my grandfather driving truck during the Great Depression. One of my first jobs was for a flatbed company in California called Earnest Prouty and Sons. Old Russ Prouty was a bit reluctant to even give me a job, but finally agreed to give me a shot. When I showed up on my first day, he got the biggest smile as I had dressed just as Mr. Spooner described. Russ walked me out to my truck... a 1966 Peterbilt 281. I think he wanted to see if I had what it took before he put me in a large car. There was nothing delicate about that truck, but it was a true work-horse. Back then, many of the old highways and truck stops were still around. It was pretty nostalgic driving that truck on those old roads. I guess I turned a lot of heads and reminded a lot of the ‘Ol Timers of a better time. I was shown a lot of respect and given a lot of help. That was when I truly learned about truck driving. I still hope to meet both you and Mr. Spooner someday. Second, don’t pay ANY attention to the trolls. They are not worth mentioning. You just keep doing you bud.
Awesome comment! I started in 94’ and to this day I am still learning.
He isn’t retired! This is my son’s grandfather, and he is still working and has his truck!
Just a thought but there is a huge difference between an old school truck driver and just and old truck driver. A lot of these older drivers are just new drivers starting their second career, they don't know anymore than a 21 year old rookie. Nothing wrong with being a rookie because we all had to start somewhere. I been at this a long time and a fourth generation driver as well, but I learn new things every day. Hats off to those that are willing to share their knowledge.
The Communication Is Probably Lost Through Technology And Modern Times,,,,,""I've Been Drivin Donkeys Years"" And I'm STILL Learning,,,,,,Every Time I Move Onto Something New I'm Just A BEGINNER Again,,,,,As For Mr Spooner The Haulage Business Is Just That Litlte Less Honoured....
ALL THE BEST.

Bro, Totally dig the shirt. After two years and six months of driving I was named 2020, Driver of the Year for my company. The company I'm employed by has 230 drivers. There is no way I could have accomplished that goal without the help of other drivers on the road. As usual this video was awesome and congratulations on meeting a trucking legend. Keep up the good work. ☮️ from Cali.
Congratulations man, that’s quite an accomplishment! 👍

Hey bro,
Thank you so much. I earnestly wouldn't have been able to accomplish it without the assistance of my fellow brothers out here. I have and still continue to gain so much knowledge. Thanks again for reaching out. Have a great day and be safe out here.
Respectfully,
Darrell
@@darrelltinsley3384 you as well brother. You have a great attitude, you will do just fine. Be safe!
Bob spooner is a legend and Brian you were very fortunate to meet him
I agree, trucking is a blessed career. Been doing it for 26 yrs now & love every minute of it. Would like to be a driving instructor when I retire. Great video
Driving instructor was my job in 1985 I was working for Trainco in Cicero, ill. The year the Bears won the super bowl
Got to meet bob spooner year ago an was also totally worth talking to him .
Got the chance to meet Mr. Spooner a few years ago at MATS, he was an awesome fella 😎 I just wished I'd have gotten him to autograph my t-shirt for me lol
I hear you man. When I first started driving in 1997 my favorite past time then was eating at the T/A and Petro drivers’ only counters and listening to the stories and learning from the older guys.
I haven’t had many of those experiences but I have had a few and enjoyed them as well
I miss them days. Made you look forward to going in to eat. Not do much now.
I have never gone up to an old-school truck driver and he has shut me down on the other hand if you ask any questions over the radio they were clowning me learned that the hard way thank you for your videos I watch every single one of them so I stay on top of the game And not laughed at
I've known Bob for over 20 years he is straight forward and no B S a good man there Charlie Brown
I drove truck since 1979 and I can tell you back in the day drivers were like family you broke down almost immediately another driver would help and often repair your issue without even thinking about charging you a nichol, people respected one another and we were well compensated, that was another time on a different planet, today traffic is 10× worse pay is 1/3 and zero respect zero care the race to the bottom is job 1 for most firms.
Hey Bro, keep up on passin that knowledge on!!! I’m 44 and & young with the OTR experience and appreciate all you do, it’s really helped me. I was brought up with the old heads passing skills down to our generation so I have a good head on my shoulders but it’s different out here. Long story short I do appreciate you doing your part!!!!💯💯
We appreciate, what you do; the knowledge and the wisdom that you pass the torch! Thanks brother!
Grumpy or no I tend to highly respect the guys that have been out here forever, I try to talk to and gain knowledge from them whenever possible. I’m a damn pup who has the right idea with respect and an attitude where I don’t know shit compared and have a willingness to learn all I can. Each of us can learn a lot from these guys, let’s do it before there gone and all of that know how is lost forever. My two cents any how, great video I hope to meet guys like that and learn because were being passed the mantle.

Bro, I wanted to make mention that as a new subscriber to your channel, I literally spent this last weekend power watching your old video's. I have a lot more to go however, you stay true all the way thru. Trollers be trollers and haters be damned. I really enjoy watching you and earnestly look forward to the day I can say I have seen all of your videos. You keep doing you and I'll stay driven.☮️ from Cali
Over my 27 years, I have always tried to be helpful. I’ve helped guys (and gals) slide their tandems to make their axle weights legal, been a spotter and helped them back into a tight spot so as not to hit the truck next to them, close stubborn trailer doors, etc. I’ve also answered questions for new guys and made a concerted effort not to make them feel stupid for asking them. We were all rookies once, right? How did we become “seasoned and experienced”, anyway? By asking questions and applying what we were told by the guys who came before us, that’s how. So, I have always tried to be helpful. If you see me out there and happen to need a helping hand, just ask me and I’ll do what I can for you. It’s the least I can do.
I have talked to and met so many awesome old school truckers. And they are more than willing to talk to you as long as you're not interfering too much with their time I guess it'd be a good way to say it. But the younger generation they just don't know how to approach these I guess Legends of the road if you want to call him that.
There's a trucking school in Modesto California who uses your picture on their website
Which one?
Great video, couldn’t agree more👍
Your absolutely right us old school truckers should pass on knowledge. And i do every time given the opportunity. My dad, unclesand grandpa is and were truckers.
Thank you for sharing with us.
I appreciate you and your channel
You could have one year of experience or ten years and have some valuable knowledge to share, or 30+ years and still have new things left to learn. No doubt you've helped countless drivers out by sharing yours! (PS: updating the weigh scales status in Trucker Tools is 100% legal and definitely legendary in our book 😉)
Knowledge is power. Thanks for your knowledge
Love your channel buddy. I’d like to see that Fallout shirt again, totally dig it. Keep the content coming.
You’ll see it tomorrow 😂👍🏻
@@DrivenTrucking Awesome Brian! Thank you🤜🏻
I saw Mr. Spooner coming from the West hammer down great guy
Thank you for the Knowledge 👍👍
Perhaps you should do a video on how to approach a conversation with older truckers.
Some people don’t have the social skills to tell when someone is in the mood to talk, or how to approach a conversation with strangers that don’t have the same background. It may sound like I’m belittling people, but I am not. I was always good with people and adapting to people’s demeanors, but I have known plenty of people who get shut down and cannot understand why. I learned a lot talking to older trucks during my OTR training. I learned more than I did from my trainer, but he was a good guy.
Also, I completely agree that a brotherhood/community is really important. It helps us through tough times and makes the good times even better. If we don’t have each other’s backs, who will? Certainly not the mega carriers.
Very true.
I seen that video. Legend indeed.
Haha that exactly how What I wanted to do when I saw you pull in.
Great video!! I thought I saw you today by walker lake
You did!
Love your videos. If you ever shut your rig down in El Paso TX look me up.
Looking to make a difference in my new career and be apart of the comradery. In some of your other videos you mentioned talking on the cb to fellow drivers, and there's just not as many people using the cb anymore. I was in Astin back in January called an accident and maybe one 2 people thanked me. Conversation are and few between I've noticed.. As a new driver I want to learn as much as possible. Sir you have great videos and, I have even contemplated on start a channel myself. Thanks
How's them trailer tires doing.
They’re doing good, I have figured out that when I have a light load I can speed up but if I am heavy and spread 62 is the absolute max and in some cases 60
I started driving otr in 05 I had to ask a lot of questions but I also had good teachers I’ve never really known anything else I grew up in trucks so I know what old school values are and I wish they would teach them now and I’m not just talking about in trucking I would like to see them come back in everywhere you know like the old saying if you don’t have anything nice to say then don’t say anything The World would be a much better place if we treated everyone the way you would like to be treated
So I have been driving for about 7 almost 8 years now still know i am supper wet behind the ears but I wanna get your take one cooking in the truck and if you do cook in your truck what do you like to make?
Been at it off and on for 40yrs come June. Throw open your hood near me and I’ll ask if you have enough tools for the jod
I just wish I could drive truck but it's not in my cards lol
Me too came down with cancer then multiple organ failure but if God blesses me with a double transplant(already got the heart done)I will either buy my own or dispatch or be an instructor again.
Yup bob is legendary! But it’s another guy Brian out there I forgot his name.. but when I got my first trucking job with us xpress the shuttle driver that carried my class from the hotel to the classroom said he did 55 years straight of otr.. accident free
That's my buddy parked in that blue frieghtliner on your passenger side he said yall had a good conversation
We did, he’s a good guy.
Great video. The interview with Chris Was phenomenal. Bob Spooner is truly a legend.
You are a lucky man just to be able to get to talk with him .
Agreed
I think part of the problem with older drivers being so grumpy is it nowadays there’s so many new drivers they really are just fucking idiots. They don’t understand the camaraderie. They don’t understand the lifestyle. To them it’s just a job and they don’t give a shit about anybody else. And the old-school cool guys just get tired of dealing with them.
Ive seen him before. Did not know his name though.
Meetsupertruckerdan
I met him once when I was back at Mercer but that’s definitely not who I’m talking about
👀
Grumpy old man
Some of what you call old school drivers have always been cranky
Johnny Cash, the man in black..😁
I’m a legend..... in my own mind🤔🤔🤔
To many foreigners in this industry it isn’t the way it used to be. PERIOD. The major carriers have ruined everything
I do not believe anyone who gives driving experience in time. Years isn't a form of distance
What considers a Trucker a “legend”? How long they have trucked?
I don’t know what makes them a legend but whatever does, Mr. Spooner definitely fits the bill
Legend as in everyone knows him, and the amount of years driving.
Amount of time they drove the knowledge they have an the way they present themselves is what makes a legend in trucking. Mr Spooner's a big time legend an if he can be one anybody can they just have to put the time an effort into it like he did.
Definitely someone that has put the years in. Mention his name and there is bound to be a story of how he helped someone out or someone that just knows him. They tend to be guys who have kept an old truck on the road for a ton of years. Work all week and have a shop at home and pull wrenches on the old girl on the weekends.
I asked my father, who has been trucking for 52 years, does he know who Bob Spooner is. He said he does not know the name but might know of him by his CB handle. Does anybody know his CB handle?
Johnny Cash helped me get out of PRISON
Long before Rodriguez stole that goat
I been the Rhinestone Cowboy for so long I can't remember
And I can do you every song Hank Williams ever wrote
But I'd rather sing songs I wrote myself
I know you dont let stupid shit like that bother you..there's an a-hole in every bunch. You addressing the issue the way you are regarding this other guy shows who the true gentleman is.
The best way to teach the new generation is to smack their faces at the fuel island especially the ones wearing flip flop
🤣🤣
