    These two American greats entertained so many millions of us for decades--and now both of them are gone. What talent they had! And they BOTH had a lot of PERSONALITY, too.

    Seen hundreds and hundreds of everything Bing has done---solos, duets, etc....and NEVER saw Bing so entranced and "quite taken" with Dinah, and she sure seems to feel the same.....there won't be TWO STARS of this magnitude who were consummate stars, performers, talents, and GENUINE people who are down to earth and so likable. Great post!

    This classic type of entertainment is no longer in existence today! It requires a lot of talent which to me seems to be missing today. All I see is the same thing done repeatedly, but just by different personalities that have different names! This Medley which is from 1963 occurred when I was 30. That will give you clue as to how old I am. It make one smile and feel good inside, something about today's entertainment doesn't do that for me!!

    Such a shame that era is over. The great masters who started it all. Dinah & Bing, I miss their artistry every day. The schlock on TV today can't follow the likes of these so I only watch news now. What a wonderful time that was.

    Love that Dinah, as a woman, was on the air hosting her own show for 25 or 30 years. She took some pauses an re-vamped but still she was more or less a fixtures for decades. kudos to her.

    I never tire of this entertainment. It was simple and good clean entertainment. One hour variety shows just aren't in vogue today. Gotta have a hour of either a guy or a gal screaming their lungs out to a four or five piece guitar band with drums and a piano. My friends that isn't a band, That's a quartet or quintet. A band is full of horns, reed instruments, strings and piano with a rhythm section of guitar, bass and drums. There were great Trio's back then, The Three Suns, The Page Cavanaugh Trio, just to name a couple. Also great vocalist both Male and Female.

    Bing was 60 in 1963, and I noticed at the very end, he was exhausted from such a medley----he puffs out his cheeks, and after watching him in inumerable videos for years, I can honestly say, he looked very much pleased working with Dinah--a consummate personality and performer in her own right. Bing had such great rapport with Dinah, sure wish they could have done more together. Anyway, Bing looked ecstatic working with her, and I think she looked like it was great in a duet with a legend. Great upload!

    • @JudgeJulieLit

      +BigBingFan Agree with all. At 60, Bing would have had less exhaustion, had he had a life of less secondhand (and perhaps firsthand) tobacco smoke.

      They'd known each other since the '40s, when they climbed the charts together. Dinah actually outsold Bing, Sinatra was number one. But Dinah had the greatest voice of the three, & is still unsurpassed today.

    • @BigBingFan
      @BigBingFan 5 років тому +1

      Let me get this right: Dinah "outsold" Bing? Hmm. Have to do some research on that claim. Great girl singer though. Respect her alot and she had great rapport with Bing.@@ericdreizen1463

    • @ericdreizen1463

      @@BigBingFan Bing was no.1 until Dinah & Frank came along. Dinah was the no.1 female rec artist from ab 43-52 & Sinatra the no1 male rec artist for the same period. Bing was right behind them. Frank & Dinah were no's1&2 overall for that period. Dinah was a multi millionaire, though not as rich as Frank (yeah, Bing was rich too). At least as far as I know.

    • @ep8324
      @ep8324 3 роки тому

      @@ericdreizen1463 If you check out the record selling numbers - Dinah never managed to actually outsell Bing during his lifetime and Frank only could finally outsell him in the 1960s. Furthermore, if you take a look at their careers overall, Bing remains the best selling artist of all time until this day.

    Bing though always brilliant, seems to find this extremely lengthy and complex medley tough sledding and at about 4:19 he goes up for a tricky moment, but regains his footing and finishes smoothly. When he puffs out his cheeks at the end, you know he's glad to have gotten through this one. While the lovely Dinah remains as cool and collected as always.

    Jewish Life TV is showing these in really murky B/W kinescopes in spite of the existence of such color tapes. I guess it's because the kinescopes are (supposedly) public domain and they don't have to pay Shore's estate or whoever owns the tapes.

    I think they both seemed distracted and tentative on this number. Could be they didn't rehearse it enough or the chemistry wasn't clicking or something but they weren't performing as tightly as I'd expect. Bing looks exhausted and he's almost throwing her off a little. Still better than Bieber or Katy Perry could do on their best day though.

      Yes, her parents were Russian-Jewish immigrants. Her real name was Frances Rose Shore. Impossible to dislike her, never had a down period, consistently successful from the 40s on. I remember her so well, & I'm so sad she's gone along w/ all the other greats. Came from a time when jazz was used on on TV alot. Real music, real singers. The drivel I've heard about her "really" being black has bordered on the absurd. She was a white woman who had a great sense of rhythm, not unlike black jazz musicians, but to consequently draw the inference that she's part black has no substance to it whatsoever.
