- Recently, it appears there's been a huge wave of false bans of Call of Duty accounts and this appears to be do to a recent uptick in compromised Activision accounts. Enabling 2-Factor Authentication will prevent this from happening to you so I'd highly encourage you to do this sooner rather than later!

Please be aware that videos like this always attract a ton of bots trying to get you to go to external sources for “help”. I try my best to keep up with banning them but I know I won’t be able to catch them all so please don’t deal with anyone but Activision when it comes to CoD account issues.

1) not play for a week on that account once it was unbanned
2) get on PlayStation and try to get reported (refire corners, shoot bodies etc)

I remember back in 2019 all you needed to do to steal someone's account was to change the email that was attached to their Activision account to your own email, because it never sent a confirmation to the original email, and 2FA wasn't a thing at the time.

Great security PSA, Ace. Everyone should use 2FA/MFA on any account they even somewhat value -- hackers are everywhere, and the constant data breaches nowadays doesn't help.
Worth noting that 2FA doesn’t have to be a Phone Number either and can be a app that keeps codes for 2FA, Google authenticatior is an example but much better options exist such as Authy or other methods
2fa eliminates the threat.
Facts. Console players probably never go to the Activision site, though, so we don't even remember that it's a thing. That's what happened to me.

The way they gain access to these accounts 2fa doesn’t do shit because they are stealing cookies which will have your 2fa included in it.

I got shadow banned at the start of season 4 because of the looping kill streaks so I had a chopper gunner up like the whole game. Was so dumb.

My homie went afk for dinner and when he came back he was notified that someone else on PC was playing on his account. He immediately activated 2SV right then and there and then only a few weeks later he was permabanned. I’ve played with him for years. He’s no cheater.

2 of my friends that didn't have 2FA activated had their accounts hacked the last 2 weeks, back to back too. Both managed to get their accounts back and unbanned, but it was a pain in the ass.
So yes, please make sure you have 2FA activated.

Had this exact thing happen to me on Xbox, got an email that a steam account was added, even though I had mine already added, then I logged on and saw my Activision ID got changed, made me level 1 and lost everything, after submitting an account take over ticket with Activision and 4 days later, had my account back.

a buddy of mine had a shadowban loop back in mw2, when he got "unbanned" we played exactly 3 matches and he got shadowbanned again, about 3 times in a row

@OG_Murk you can't find any lobbys and if you find one, it's filled with cheaters. Also, if you go to the Activision website your are banned from searching for any games.

Which is why people who false report others should also get banned permanently, unless you’re absolutely sure and it’s clear as day that someone is hacking, you have no right to report anyone for anything other than hacking or harassment.
I’m saying this because I had a few decent matches and had multiple people on the same day tell me that they’re reporting me and I was shadow banned literally the next day.
False reporting people won’t result in a shadow ban. You can false report someone all you want if Ricochet doesn’t detect anything on that account they wont get shadow banned.. you probably got shadow banned for other reason than mass reporting it.. you’ve got shadow banned for doing something you weren’t supposed to be doing
Yeah, this happened to my friend. He sent multiple ban appeals, and they denied all of them, but strangely, after a week, the ban went away.
Hi, how does the 2fa works? Because here in Asia the 2fa doesn’t send during mw2019, they added that just recently. My account got hacked even 2fa was active. I played mw2019 and needed to stop because of my injuries from my work in Iraq during the isis and when I play again mw3 public lobby is full of cheaters.

Zero mention that the Hackers SO far out of control that they have access to Ricochet's back end and can see which users are not only reporting them, but shadow ban them instantly with the ability to send over 100s of reports

The shadowban issue primarily affects pc players. I spent the first 250 hrs of mw3 on ps5 or my series x. Have dropped plenty of high kill games, nukes, etc, never had an issue. I finally build a gaming pc and within 2 weeks of the same kind of performance I received my first shadowban. The fact that it’s dictated primarily on reports from salty players who genuinely can’t imagine that someone is much better than them without cheating is ridiculous.
Well, when you have such strict SBMM the only way they see people that much better than them is when that person is reverse boosting. So of course they are going to suspect that player of cheating.

@@defeatignorance8681 there’s definitely some truth to that. But for as long as COD has been around there have been hackusations of good players even when there was less strict matchmaking. My issue is leaving the ability to render a persons account nearly unusable in the hands of that kind of community without a proper system in place to actually assess and review an account in a timely manner.
@@defeatignorance8681 SBMM is not as strict as you think, goes to show your own skill level if you think so, skill is prioritized over connection, but connection isn't ignored, so high skill players will end up in lower skilled lobbies to make sure they don't have horrendous connection, it wont be great connection, but not 500ms of ping and unplayable

Another issue is a shit ton of ppl are claiming false ban as well, not including ranked and pubs are filled with cheaters at high sbmm.
This happened to me last month. Someone linked their steam account to my Activision account and I got banned. I appealed the ban and they declined my appeal. What I had to do was an account recovery request and there’s a text box where I explained that the steam account was unauthorized. A few days later the steam account was unlinked and I got my account back.
This happened to me upon discovery last week. Finally got my account back luckily. Had to change passwords and update 2FA real quick. I have been popped with easy fall damage/deaths in return.
I’ve been reported & spam reported So much by so many different players that I can’t keep track since the anti-cheat came out in MW2 and i have never been “false banned” or “shadow banned”. I’m pretty sure you’re only going to get banned if you’re actually cheating, doing some exploits, unlock tools, or someone hacked your account

Since you asked. I have been shadowbanned twice. both times it made que times go to 10-20 minutes, would not even allow me to play zombies, and put me in literal spinbotting lobbies. both times it also took two weeks to get cleared. i primarily play ranked and i am in crim2 to iridesent depending and how much time i have to play during a season.

I have only been shadow banned once but I got it resolved the same day by messaging them and explaining to them that my name isn't offensive. They shadow banned me for offensive chat and name and voice chat even though my name is literally Shadow and I don't use text or voice chat lol.

I had this happen to me a little while ago, an unknown person linked their steam account to my Acti account. Reached out to Activision support and they did NOTHING to help and didn't even unlink that account because "they haven't done anything with it yet" Turned on 2FA, hope that prevents it in the future. But it pisses me off.
You need to unlink it yourself in your profile on the website, all you can ask to Acti is to send a change password link so you can connect
I had this in MW3.. but the strange thing is, i do have 2fa active but a BattleNet ID account got linked without my permission. I got banned and cannot get it of! They will not listen, they will not give me information about the login attempts etc. Activision is a no-go for me since this happend. I will never, never use activision again.

This happened to me unfortunately. I was able to get my account back, and i enabled 2fa. However, my account now has the splat mechanic and I cant play normally now. I really liked this cod too which is a shame.

I had the issue when season 3 reloaded dropped and everything I've bought or unlocked across MW2019 - MW3 was just gone and had to restart from scratch even though i never had any issues prior, activation didn't do anything to fix this issue
I received a couple shadow bans, not sure why. Just made queue times infinitely long and sometimes I would get put with and against cheaters. I once had a shadow ban lifted and then almost immediately after (maybe a day or two) I received another one.
Dont forget to mention.. in shadow u have limited modes u can find matches in and it takes a LONGG time to find a match. Basically u just cant play. Its tragic for the false shadows.
How does your game looks so high resolution on PS5? Mine looks like hot garbage in 120hz mode.
2FA Is great if you have access to the email on the account. If you've lost access to that email there is NO WAY to change the email. So as a result I have an account that can be hacked because of the stupid rules that state you can't change your email if you can't access that email to get an email about changing your email. Crazy BS imo
Same situation except the app I had for 2FA is now gone along with its data once I got my new phone last year. Forgot the name of the app it was Google something. Either way, my account is basically locked to anyone besides me since it remembers my device/location of login. Even I can’t access the 2FA codes

This is an on going issue for me. I have only played on console(PS4-PS5) and when I got a PC I wanted to link my account but it said my email was incorrect. Come to find out that my email was changed to a known fake email address. I submitted a tick and I haven't gotten a single email back in over 2 months. At least I'm still able to play but I feel like that won't last for long.

To do this. You have to download an authentication app. And use it to set this up. I hate apps…
But if I download the app. Then do the authentication process can I then delete the app or do you have to use that app every time you need to do something?

Yes you need an auth app and you need it everytime it will ask you for a 2fa code, basically 2fa creates a 6 digits code every 30 seconds and will ask you this code everytime you want to connect your account somewhere. I believe there are some apps that dont share your data with 3rd parties.

This really sucks for me because I can’t even take action to protect my account, because I accidentally unsubscribed from call of dutys email and I have now clue how to resubscribe.
You can resubscribe by going to call of duty’s website and logging into your account and going into your settings. You can also set up 2FA as well. Things like an account linking will still be sent to you as well if you aren’t subscribed to their marketing emails.
If your account has been hacked and you are no longer receiving emails from them, you can submit a ticket to activision and let them know the last known email attached to the account. They will have you set up a temporary account that they will move all your information to once the issue has been resolved.

While I do agree with this for sure, I must admit I've had a lot of problems with my account ever since I activated 2FA. I completely lost the ability to log in to the Activision website more than once. Took a while and I had to speak with several people AND create two new email accounts, but I finally got it back. The problem is I have to enter a code EVERY SINGLE TIME I want to log in to the site. And once the 10 codes support gave me are used up, I have to go through the entire process again.
i had 2fa and i still got my account taken by a hacker. it took support 3 days to get my account back . but then it was banned and i had to wait another 4 days for them to unban it due to the hacker. from what i was able to gather they used some sort of A.i. program to bypass 2fa on the account and then linked my account to steam. even though i saw the email right away it was too late by the time i got online, i was locked out. i was lucky to get the account back . but just sucked that i couldnt play for a while when season 4 hit.
I'm pretty sure you got compromised by a virus that stole your session cookie which bypasses both the password and 2fa, there's no AI that can crack a 2fa algorithm, they either reversed your 2fa key with several 2fa coded you received or they simply got your account another way

To add to this, use 2FA, and make sure that the 2FA is on a device disconnected from the device you play on, and isn't something someone else can access. Mobile 2FA is great, but if you have an email account with 2FA on the same phone, that could be a problem.
As a person in cheating discord servers Please take Ace advice and turn on 2FA as that’s what hackers do after getting full access to your email and activision account so you can’t take it back.
I just have standard practice to have 2FA on any accounts where I actually made purchases/put money into.

My account was false banned. I have never cheated and only game on console with Xbox series elite controller. I don’t use chat or talk online. My game said temporary however online said permanent. I contacted the BBB and they are now handling my case with Activision, however activision was caught in a lie because I had screenshots and data from activision. Also I have no other linked accounts and password strengths are super strong.

Having the same password to every thing is quite a common vulnerability, best course of action is to make a pattern that you know for changing the password ever so slightly for every website
Using the same password on things is not a vulnerability. A vulnerability means these is something in the code and/or process that is vulnerable to a hack. Using the same password for things is a choice people make.
Any capable security guy will tell you to never just "change the password ever so slightly". This is easily figured out in seconds for anyone half-capable.
The only right way to do this is with a password manager like Laspass, Bitwarden, etc.... Always use a complex, different password it suggests. Never use a password less than 15 characters. Never write them down.
Wow bolt that was some bad advice. this a bad idea... people don't even know how to do it properly so it adds very little, if any extra security. Do what ruff says and get a password manager, you only need to remember one password and can have the password manager automatically generate and fill the password in for you. It takes a while for people to realize but using a password manager is actually easier/faster than not. Its only hard for the first 5 mins when you figure out how it works 🤣
I literally got my account back after emailing them directly. Prior to my ban I haven’t played for a week then hopped on to see I’m banned🤦🏾♂️. They gotta do better.
The problem with Activision's 2FA is that it's buggy, and I've had friends that couldn't log in for extended periods of time exactly because of that. That is a major problem.
🚨I got false banned for backing out of lobbies that picked a map I didn’t want to play. Before the countdown started I would leave bc my wife didn’t like the map but I got banned for “manipulating the software” and they refused to even reverse the ban
Another way to doubly safeguard your account, make both a steam and battle net account if you don't already have them and link those to your Activision account, these account hijackers tend to outright ignore accounts with exsiting PC accounts linked, because that just makes it more likely you'll detect they are hijacking your account, it will send an email for them unlinking the account then a new email linking it, plus having a steam and Bnet account linked means you might actually play on PC, which would mean you'd notice if all of a sudden you boot up the game and everything is gone
My account got banned after not playing for a month while I was out of the country. Activision notified me of suspicious activity on my account, 4 hours later I reset my password and they had already permanently banned me and are now telling me there was no suspicious activity, despite them telling me there was in the first place SMH

Thank you for mentioning shadow bans again. I am one of those people that comment on your videos asking you to talk about it, lol. I'm on my 5th shadowban this year. Can't play for a full week without getting banned, mostly playing other games now because its impacting my experience so badly that I basically can't play the game anymore (1.9 kd due to interstellar but have averaged a 3k since getting it)
I don’t understand comments like this when the literal best pro player ever to exist does not have that kind of a K/D in these EOMM lobbies. Certainly you must do something to be putting up those kinds of numbers. Or the region you play in just has nobody playing CoD and your lobbies are basically random
@emwols top pro players definitely have KDs like this or much better. You can go look at in game leaderboards and see for yourself. I don't do any form of manipulation for my lobbies and alot of the time I get mega sweat lobbies. I still hold down a 2kd in sweaty lobbies most of the time but when I get easy ones I usually have a 5-6kd. My 10 game average has consistently been around a 3kd since I got interstellar. My region is US, north east and I mostly play headquarters in the evening...
@@SKLLZTHATKILLZ ahhhh headquarters, that makes all the difference. All the sweaty players would play hardpoint, headquarters is where a lot of people go to relax and switch things up a bit. No judgment I loved headquarters and performed much better in those lobbies than something like hardpoint or SnD

I better not have my account banned, I literally have one of the oldest Activision accounts on earth that’s still active… I do NOT have numbers behind mine the Activision username.
I guess good thing for me is I did setup 2 factor authentication but my problem is that I lost my backup codes now anytime I try and generate a code through the authenticator app it doesn't work so I can't actually log into my account. It also means I cannot login to the mobile game. So I guess I'm safe from this but screwed if I need to log in somewhere else.

It already happened to me... I unlinked the account and activated 2FA only 5 hours after the unauthorized access but the damage was already done. I haven't even touch COD since Vanguard and haven't even played one game of MWII, III or Warzone but oh well, apparently I'm permanently banned in those games.

This happened to me just last month. I submitted a request to have the account unlinked and for my account to be unbanned. I also submitted a request to the BBB as well. It took about a week to get my account unbanned. Also, after that, I experienced splat where I would take fall damage simply just jumping off a car or van in game. That went away after another couple of days. Set up 2 factor and hope it doesn’t happen to anyone else.
People get their accounts back, the first request is always denied. But as one tries for 2 weeks finally a person gets the ticket in question and it is resolved in most cases when new account was linked. Dozens of people get their accounts back on reddit in recent weeks. But keep 2FA enabled!
Also KEEP BACKUP CODES PRINTED, in case you lose your phone.
Yep I was banned (I needed to insert Password all of a sudden.. didn't get the password reset link , made new account 10 tickets later got my account back. It was a drag, but I must say thanks Activision help deck for helping me. .

In 2020 my account was hacked, I reported and actually managed to get them to sort it and when I got my account back it had loadouts all changed and renamed so I know someone was definately using it.
I can't figure out how to 2FA it though and I don't think I ever did it.
At least 20+ shadow bans since mw2. Even after I take a break for several months, I'll get another one after a couple hours of play time. I only barely got finished with interstellar camo since shadowbanned lobbies don't exist in Australia. The queue times are anywhere from 6-12 hours for the game to finally accept a match above 250 ping.
I've had this happen to me in 2021/2022. My account was lost and banned for around a year. Somehow managed to get my account back after multiple tickets and back and forth's w/ Activision.
atleast two of my friends have been shadowbanned multiple times from false multiple reports, its beyond ridiculous to play together only to wake up to a shadow ban from salty players.
Is it just me that finds the videos have been jittery lately or is it the gameplay then again ive had issues where ive had my whole team rubberband because of players with high ping connecting when they shouldnt be connecting at all.
Happened to me but was definitely able to get my account back and it was seen that another account was added
I got banned on xbox for cheating....im like WTF....HOWWWWW!!!!!!!... I tried fighting it with no positive outcome....i eventually had to make a new account and I've been nervous ever since because i couldn't figure out how i got banned when i only played on the weekends and i don't cheat. Now i know thanks...
I wonder what criteria is used for shadow bans... number of reports? Recent performance vs historical performance? I've been shadow banned only once... never have cheated and really I may be an only above-average player. I remember I noticed something was off the next day after I had a great run the previous night. Problem was, it took like three weeks for me to have the shadow ban lifted.
Probably number of reports in a short amount of time, maybe a day or a week, but the bar is probably pretty low since I've been shadowbanned around 10 times these last 2 years
It seems like Everyone Hacks or uses Modded Controllers, so I don’t know if this Ban Wave is for False Bans
Cause I’ve seen these Types of Mods/Hacks from Most to Least:
•2-Tap Damage Mod
•Zip Walk Mod
•Wallz Mod
•Xtra Aim Assist Mod
•Toggle Invisibility Mod
•Xtra Immunity Frames Mod
•Classic BO2 Style Aimbot (Only saw that Happen Once in a Search Game)
•Gitter Mod (Only Heard of it from Friends who play the Game)
I remember in 2019 pre 2fa my cod account got hacked, thankfully the cod mp/warzone tracker was a thing because a screenshot from that helped get my account cloned to a new one and got me back in the game within 2 days
How are you so certain they are false bans? Were you there watching all these players play?
This a is 1 of 2 things:
A great way to inspire players to log on and play again OR
drive away an already receding player base
Also in addition to 2FA, people really should use a password manager that generates a unique password for each account
How about an anti cheat that doesn't falsely ban players for no reason, especially handheld windows PC's such as the ROG Ally. Or a dispute system that actually allows a legitimate dispute rather than an automated instant appeal decline and no ability to speak to a human further.
Honestly their anti cheat system has to be borderline lawsuit worthy with how easily it can revoke access to legitimate players.
That happened to a friend of mine woke up and was banned saying the same thing and he deleted it right away but Activision now permantly banned him and refuse to do anything else about it smh 100s of dollars and time wasted well me and my group of 20 don't play cod no more
I tried many times to do two factor authentication and it won't let me.
Then wait a few hours and try again? It won't lock you out forever. If it still happening it seems to be a skill issue on your end

I lost my account for about six months but was able to get it back during mw19 days …. Super frustrating considering the amount of money I spent on that account.
