I am 60 years old and have been fishing my whole life. I have never had a day like this at the whirlpool, even using the stingeye.....Ivo, you are my hero! You should have posters made so we fishermen can put-them up in our man caves.
I'm pretty sure the information from this amazing video is gonna help me catch my first real sport fish after numerous failed attempts. If/when that happens, I'll probably need to build the man a statue!
Hello IVO - You sure did have a wonderful time fishing in the Niagara River - a couple of nice Steelhead plus a nice Brown Trout - even tho you lost one fish it's better then loosing your Sting Eye Lure ( whew ) I keep on saying to my self " I have to buy one " hopefully Santa will get me one ( lol ) good video !
loving the colder weather. only a matter of time for when i can get on the ice for the first time (probably could now, but ill play it safe and give it another couple weeks or so, got all winter. I also have no time this week)
I'm jealous! I haven't fished since May, because of moving to a new house and lot's of thing taking away the free time I have. My fishing time suffered greatly, but I'll try to make it up next year!
Awesome day's fishing Ivo. The first fish did it have a clipped front fin or was it just missing? Hope to meet you down there one day. Take care and great videos.
Ivo I fished that exact location and nothing! Goes to show you that how things change from one day to the next! And i would definitely take a lot less gear down there the hike was brutal!

Hello Thundermist lures. I really wanted your opinion on when to go to the Niagara whirlpool, I wanted to try to catch browns, steels/rainbows & lakers. What time of the year do you think is best to try and catch any or all 3 of these trout?? I love your videos, I've been watching for years now, keep them coming. Thanks.
...winter, spring and fall are all great....right now you can get steelhead and soon lakers as well - once mid June arrives, typically the trout have moved out and you need to wait till fall :)
@@thundermistlures thanks for your reply. I finally decided to buy one of these lures. Would it be worth trying at the whirlpool this time of the year? Or just better wait till spring?
Thanks Ivo, I'm trying to target some steelhead in my local waterfall (snoqualmie) here in washington (my youtube pic) gonna order a few stingeye and t-turns. I missed what rod size and weight you have?
Salmon start in September. Till late October. Steelhead are probably best in October or November. You can get small mouth and silver bass and walleye in the warmer months. Also occasional musky and sturgeon. Good luck.
...the gold or black are great choices for murky water or dark/cloudy days, whereas the silver or chartreuse are best in clear water or sunny days. Tough call just to pick one, but if |I had to, it would be between the Gold and the Chartreuse :)
How do you get to this spot!!? I've been down to the lower Niagara twice with no luck. I've spent dozens of hours trying to catch a real sport fish without a single hit. I want to try to replicate what you did exactly, I'm desperate to catch a real fish!
Rafael, if you drive to the Niagara Whirlpool aero car then find the parking lot on the north side of the pool long the parkway. On Google Maps it is marked as 'Upper Whirlpool Trails'. About 40 m south is the stairs down. Be aware that climbing back up is quite an exercise.
roe bags are a sure thing, but beads and streamer flies and yarn flies are a close second...there are also other baits you can use such as spoons, spinners, and plastics :)
....true steelhead are a migratory fish, so yes, they could return from the Atlantic or in the case of the great lakes and fishing the rivers, it would be considered the same :) A steelhead is just a migratory Rainbow trout.....rainbows are basically land-locked :)
@@MrSturdystratus Far cry between silence and someone who runs their mouth constantly. If i was fishing with him, it would be the last time. Goofy Canadians.

Gorgeous couple of fish, but there are no steelhead east of the rockies. None. A rainbow trout is a steelhead when it is anadromous. The salt water actually changes metabolism and the skeletal structure of the fish. No saltwater, and it stays a rainbow trout.
I really could watch Ivo fish all day, he’s like the Bob Ross of angling.
A VanDyke Brown Trout!
That's the truth! hahaha

Love your videos Ivo. I grew up in Fort Erie and now living in Burlington. I miss this. I plan on hitting Niagara this weekend because of you!
Love the whirlpool - you never really know what's on the other end of your line.
I love that scenery, beautiful even the fish
What a great outing in this one Ivo. Great job!!!!! 👍😎🎣🐟🐟🐟

Nice job. It doesn't surprise me that you did well. Shore anglers usually do better when the water is murky. Thanks
Love your videos and your message. So do my boys. Wish I were closer to steelhead fishing.
So glad you and your kids are enjoying our videos and |I'm sure you are all having some great days on the water together :)

...tough question...I love the Upper Niagara but also love the Lower Niagara as well as Port Dalhousie, so don't really have a favorite I guess :)
What color thundermist stingeye should I get if I can only choose one, for day fishing down at the whirlpool?
