I have both laptops, between the Zephyrus G16 and Leigon 7i, i kept the Legion mainly because of more ram and the better CPU making a sacrifice on the screen and speakers. So if anyone’s on the Edge, i honestly would recommend the Legion 7i, unless you look at the new G16 with the new AMD AI 9 chips
I watched your video in 2019 to help me decide on which gaming laptop to buy. Your review was very helpful and I was able to choose what I wanted. It's 2024 now, it's time to upgrade and I'm watching your video again to help me decide. I don't know but I love it!
screen looking wobbly, even when you are clicking on things during the performance mode section you can see the screen move every time. Doesn't seem like a big thing but bad hinges only get worse with time, I love everything else about this machine.
I have this laptop, and to my taste it's perfect. Using it as a desktop (connected to TV via HDMI at 4K 120 Hz) while I'm not traveling. No complaints at all.
I bought a G16 4090 recently and had to return it because it was overheating and throttling some games down to less than 10 FPS for extended periods (Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, Cyberpunk, Diablo 4). If you like this form factor (and it is gorgeous), I would recommend going with the 4060 or 4070 version to avoid thermal overload. If you want a 4080 or 4090 laptop, go for one in a thicker chassis with a beefier cooling solution, I think the sleek, thin chassis of the G16 is too thin for a hot 4090, even if it is wattage limited.
I like that you include the 3D Mark results because they are an easy to compare standard. We can run the same basic tests for free on our own systems and see where it lands compared to the laptops you test.
Me too! Given the limited power provided to the CPU when both CPU and GPU are under the load, the new AMD processor might increase the gaming performance significantly.

Hey Jarrod, a big fan on how you go in depth with these Gaming Laptops reviews! I know this is irrelevant, but is there any plans on reviewing the Asus' ProArt Laptops?
I personally love the 3D Mark results. Though I would be interested to see 3D Mark results like maybe just the TimeSpy on all of the performance modes. So many laptops treat their performance modes differently and being able to see what the performance drop off looks like, and also compare that with your fan volume test would be super helpful.

The video i've been waiting for, the Legion 7i vs G16 comparisons can be settled now, its a shame you dont have the 4080 G16 version, as I think that would be a better comparison to the Legion 7i, but nevertheless I cant wait for the comparison video
I care about 3D mark very much. They are great for years down the road anyone can get a idea of how gpus perform. Games change all the time but benchmarks are designed to give a consistent test. They show how bad the 4070 really is because last gen scores the same. The 4070 shines in 1080p but that’s because the CPUs are better compared to last gen. 3D mark shows that.
I bought the white with a 4070 model with 32 gigs of ram in EU, i love it so far it is truly amazing and light, it does get hot during gaming, but still very smooth gameplay, just wish could of gotten 4080 but that was 1000Euro more expensive
My thoughts exaxtly, he’s a bit late to the party. I’ll get the G16 with 5080/5090 whenever it launches. For now I went with the Legion Slim 5 OLED and it’s awesome.
It can take time to receive the laptops for review, and then it takes even longer for him to do all the tests and record and edit the video. The amd version just launched, so i doubt he would be able to release a review of the amd g16 this early, unless he got the new amd version multiple weeks in advance of its launch and decided to prioritise the new device over all previously launched devices that people are more likely to buy as they are more available and cheaper(due to sales) than the newest amd g16.
@@JT11111 yeah but we're still looking for a review of the G16 4070, I'm pretty sure it's way better than this Ultra version in every way. Especially because the g16 4070 does not come with 32gigs ram in the states. But the AMD one does. also, won't Asus be releasing these models with the Lunar Lake chips that are launching soon? I was guessing the new g16s with the 4080/90 might come with those.
I actually bought the G14 with 16 GB of RAM and the RTX 4060 initially about a month ago. I was in love with the system from a build quality and style perspective. I'm a software dev and I used it for work and it's also a great performer on games as well. A perfect system for me. However with the number of windows, IDEs, and other apps I have open at any given moment, I was quickly reaching my memory cap, so a few weeks ago I returned it and grabbed the 32 GB 4070 version. Performance in gaming is better, but only slightly. I'm getting above 60 FPS reliably on stuff like Tekken 8, FFXIV, and Overwatch 2. The RAM is DEFINITELY a noticeable bump, and has helped me maintain work Teams calls while screensharing any number of my open windows. Long story short, if you're only running 1 heavy app at a time, 16 gigs of ram might be fine, but if you're any kind of mid to power user, you're gonna need that 32 GB. Obviously this is the G16, not the G14 I bought, but I'd imagine the same applies.
@@tahaabdoli258 it's working great for me! do you have any specific questions? One tip I have is to install and use G-Helper and uninstall Armory Crate, it will help with temperatures.
Here's hoping ASUS send you the new G16 as it's already on sale in some regions. Seeing the CPU limited to 25W and Zen 5's low TDP improvements I see this being a win-win, also not enough battery tests for the new AMD chip, always eagerly wait to see your battery tests. PS: I hear your pain when @7:40, more RAM > more fan...
I know it is not a gaming laptop. But I would be interested if you can review the Surface Laptop 7 15 inch. Specifically the touchpad, battery life, snappiness, display, etc. You review gaming laptops mostly, so you have a fair idea how snappy they are (frankly my MSI Crosshair 12700H, 3060 RTX, is not snappy). Just a suggestion :) Nice video btw :)
I'm kinda confused Between choosing this Or a higher gpu laptop But i love the oled display It gives a great vibe being small and powerful at the same time
I went to the service center 2 months after I purchased mine and with just less than a month of use. My laptop was just in constant reboot loop and they had to replace the motherboard. The service guys can’t even pin point what really happened but during my time of use, the laptop is just so hot and I can’t even put it on my lap cause the air is that hot. I reckon it was the heat that cooked the motherboard and now I have a trepidation that it will be an issue again 😢
i bought the g16 2023 with i7 13620h and rtx 4060, i made an upgrade from 16 to 32gb of ran and added a 2nd m.2 ssd and i am pretty happy so far. Not my favorite keybord in the world i have to say but it gets the job done. A little noicy i might add when playing games, but fortunatly i have the option to plug in some headphones or connect via bluetooth so my ears are safe :) The only upside i see for the newer model is the addition of that USB A port, as my own does not come with one and it is not cool having to carry around with me a dongle adapter from usb C to usb A whenever i travel and want to still use a mouse. The 2024 model seems to have solved this issue. Plus the speakers are nicer, the 2023-s speakers are prety small, but decent. All in all, it becomes more rafined so i like it.
Then you can go for Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i with the same CPU and GPU as this one. It has a higher-resolution MiniLED touchscreen and 64 GB RAM options as well. It's a bit heavier and thicker than this one, though.
Great Review. I was thinking of buying this laptop since it’s light, has great battery and runs games well. Would have loved to see how much fps it gives for Valorant but will have to search some other video for that.
Good review as always Jarrod. Thanks to your 7i review, I got mine and it's arriving tomorrow. My only concern is do you think I should be worried about the recent intel instability issues since it comes with an i9 14900HX?
Excellent review as always. I would really consider the G16 if it had 32GB + 4070 available in my region. Or if they make a good price for the 4080 configuration. But I don't think that's gonna happen.
its sad to see so many laptops with soldered memory. Especially since it rarely goes up to 64-gb I can live without a second SSD and use an external hard drive and only need 1 internal SSD. But I can't do "external RAM" if I need more RAM in my computer :( Thank you for the review. Oh btw, the integrated graphics have gotten a lot better over the years, maybe it would be a good idea to compare a non-gaming laptop and see how games works on it, like 1 intel and 1 amd one per year to see the "value" an additional GPU brings
The reason for soldered RAM is that the latest generation of LPDDR5X is superfast, >8000mh, as well as lower latency, and this is not possible on SODIMM currently. So rather than holding back innovation and technology, rightly, OEMs have switched to soldered RAM. Also, with AI, faster RAM is better. So, until modular RAM catches up, which maybe never, we are moving to an age of soldered RAM, and you have to build that into your buying decision.
Great review! I was considering this model, but the wobbly screen hinge, lack of an ethernet port, and the high price are dealbreakers for me. I'm waiting for the review of the new Asus TUF A16, as it seems to have everything I'm looking for.
GJ Jarrod! Regarding the intel 13 and 14th gen problems and AMD sticking to zen 4 in most CPUs, isn't it time to make a "buy now ir wait for RTX 50 series?" video?
I have this exact model... The thing is a beast I enjoy battlefield 2042 on ultra at about 90fps. Hogwarts legacy on ultra at about 70fps. Its the nicest display I own, and the speakers really are glorious. Great for gaming, great for productivity, great for consumption. Very nice
Would love to see a direct comparison between the legion 7i and this one. Although between software updates and an upcoming version with the new Ryzen processors, I'm liking the G16 more. Shame about the ASUS customer support though.
I heard you should not get the 4060/4070 version as the cooling is not enough to have a quiet laptop. the 4080 model has a vapor chamber and runs cooler and quieter even with a more powerful gpu, comparisons would be nice if it is worth spending extra if the laptop is noticeable quieter?
16 gigs might be fine for gaming now but you might run into issues when running apps in the background like discord or especially web browser. I upgraded my G14 from 16 to 24 gigs because of that.
I am really looking into buying this laptop now that is $1500 in USA but I am still going back and forth with the 16GB non-upgradable RAM + fan noise. On the ram topic, I believe that 16GB are more than enough today but, what about 3 years down the road. Additionally, I own a HP Omen 2018 and I had to replace the RAM twice which indicates that RAM can be faulty. Still on the fence... any feedback will be amazing
17:30 i like the timespy. do you plan on making a video on how reliable the timespy is for estimating gaming performance? if one laptop has a timespy of 8000 and another has 10000, what kind of performance boost can we reasonably expect?
The new zephyrus laptops are super ultra light gaming laptops! Maybe we could say that they are in comparison with premium ultrabooks with around the same configs; like Dell XPS, Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i, etc And I think they can run games better than those

AMD models of the G16 don’t have 4080 or 4090 GPU options, unfortunately. 4070 is the highest Asus offers for the AMD-equipped G16, which is annoying
Yes, please! We want a comparison between the Asus G16 vs Lenovo Legion 7i 2024🥰
I have this laptop, and to my taste it's perfect. Using it as a desktop (connected to TV via HDMI at 4K 120 Hz) while I'm not traveling. No complaints at all.
I’m pretty sure hardware unboxed said “16GB is not recommended anymore” you are forgetting that windows by itself needs like 4-6GB doing nothing.
Copilot and Windows Defender alone eats 1.5GB RAM in total when running on the background, equal to opening 5 chrome tabs
mine only use less than 4gb for windows 11, dont have co pilot
Just ordered this bad boy in Platinum White.
Massive OLED fan.
I was just looking for this review, imo its rather expensive, and i hate how you have to spend so much just for 32 gigs of ram..
the 32 gb version is on sale on best buy for the same base price of the 16gb version, so best to get it now
edit: thats for the g14 though
Jarrod, I'm awaiting your review of the same laptop with the upcoming AMD Strix Point!!
Me too! Given the limited power provided to the CPU when both CPU and GPU are under the load, the new AMD processor might increase the gaming performance significantly.
It’s already released I think. I wonder why no reviews. Waiting for 2025?
@@michaozga7825suppliers in EU (may be it differs from region to region) start shipping only in September, so I guess we have to wait.
@@michaozga7825 Because its only available in 3 laptops right now...S16, P16, and Proart 13. You aren't gonna see it in a G series Zephyrus or other Lenovo laptops later this year.
@@michaozga7825 My theory is they're too busy pushing the Zenbook version that they don't want to take light away from it atm.
Nice shirt. I purchased the G16 4070 with 16Gb model. It looks like the 4070 model is available in 32gb, although I have only seen it available in white, and at full retail price of $2299, and only in the Ryzen 9 configuration.
11:27 The G16's performance was fixed btw, well atleast on mine. 27500 on R23 in G mode, and 30k if you use G mode + raise PL1 limits since thermals are not the limit
G mode? You mean Manual?
@@friedpickle9828 no, it's the mode you can only enter via the keyboard shortcut, F9 key.
@@markhd3059 odd, I don't have that. I cant find anything on Google about this "G Mode" either. Do you have a link? My F9 key is for display switch shortcut.
i do like the 3dmark results. i find them to be a good indicator of overall gaming performance without specifying the game
As a full-time Linux user always on the lookout for better laptop options, I genuinely appreciate you including an actual "Linux support" segment in your review, thank you!
Hey Jarrod, a big fan on how you go in depth with these Gaming Laptops reviews!
I know this is irrelevant, but is there any plans on reviewing the Asus' ProArt Laptops?
Especially the 13" version is unique because it's a convertible with a powerful AMD processor and a 4070, which is also suitable for gaming
I personally love the 3D Mark results. Though I would be interested to see 3D Mark results like maybe just the TimeSpy on all of the performance modes. So many laptops treat their performance modes differently and being able to see what the performance drop off looks like, and also compare that with your fan volume test would be super helpful.
Oof way too much work, sorry.
great revieuw, lovely that you took the back panel of to show us!
This has got to be the best video i have not seen yet
Will chime in later
Edit: awesome Jarrod tech video
Definitely saw half of it 👌
Zoned out in the 3rd quarter and contemplated life in the 4th
All in all 10/10 would recommend trying to watch this vijeo
The video i've been waiting for, the Legion 7i vs G16 comparisons can be settled now, its a shame you dont have the 4080 G16 version, as I think that would be a better comparison to the Legion 7i, but nevertheless I cant wait for the comparison video
hey m8 please dont get rid of the 3dmark scores. its just nice to know how a laptop should performe😀
Wakey wakey people. Jarrod just uploaded.
🛌
More like got updated finally?
@@JarrodsTechJarrod any plans on snapdragon x laptops.
@@yuvrajsingh099 Nope. We only review gaming laptops.
@@JarrodsTech Thank you for reply.
Super deep dive review with almost overwhelming amount of information in such a short vid, however still one of the best on YTB, thx!
Weird you're doing a review of the meteor lake version when the AMD version just launched
Exactly, kind of a letdown 🥲
AMD version only goes up to 4070, so if someone wants to buy the 4080 or 4090, they would have to stick to meteor lake
Absolutely looking forward to the comparison between legion 7i and the g16
Definitely do the comparison! I'd love to see the legion slim 7i against a laptop like this one. Love the videos!
Great review as expected. I'd love to see the comparison but I think it against Razer's blade 16. Would be better
Yes, please make a comparison with the Legion 7i. I'm considering one of these two, so it would help a lot. Your videos are awesome. Thanks a lot. :)
It's coming!
I have the exact same model, I'm glad the 4070 version is available with 32GB RAM in Canada as well!
can I ask how is it doing for you couse Im trying to buy one too
@@tahaabdoli258 it's working great for me! do you have any specific questions?
One tip I have is to install and use G-Helper and uninstall Armory Crate, it will help with temperatures.
Here's hoping ASUS send you the new G16 as it's already on sale in some regions. Seeing the CPU limited to 25W and Zen 5's low TDP improvements I see this being a win-win, also not enough battery tests for the new AMD chip, always eagerly wait to see your battery tests. PS: I hear your pain when @7:40, more RAM > more fan...
I appreciate you reviewing it for us, but I wish you reviewed the 4090 version because I wanted to see the temperatures with this thin laptop.
This is the new g16 there’s no 4090 option
Nevermind I thought this was the brand new amd config
@@lukecarson1828 he did say that it's available in 4090 opinion in the video.
Although I never seen any amd versions of the g16.
@@Noor555_s_Animations there’s a new AMD cpu in the g16 that’s available on asus’s website right now
Why would you bother getting a pretend 4090? If you want a 4090, get a desktop.
Just a suggestion :)
Nice video btw :)
Great review as always, thank you!
I'm kinda confused
Between choosing this
Or a higher gpu laptop
But i love the oled display
It gives a great vibe being small and powerful at the same time
I went to the service center 2 months after I purchased mine and with just less than a month of use.
You're the only one saying screen wobble is minimal. You think maybe Asus has tightened the hinge with machines manufactured later on?
Not the only one. Josh Craves Tech has reported the same. And yeah, screen wobble was likely improved in late March-April revision IIRC
Just bought one of these in November 2024 and there’s no excessive screen wobble. Looks like Asus tightened those hinges in recent production runs.
I really like that you consider Linux support for the laptops. Keep up the good work 😊
i bought the g16 2023 with i7 13620h and rtx 4060, i made an upgrade from 16 to 32gb of ran and added a 2nd m.2 ssd and i am pretty happy so far.
Not my favorite keybord in the world i have to say but it gets the job done.
A little noicy i might add when playing games, but fortunatly i have the option to plug in some headphones or connect via bluetooth so my ears are safe :)
The only upside i see for the newer model is the addition of that USB A port, as my own does not come with one and it is not cool having to carry around with me a dongle adapter from usb C to usb A whenever i travel and want to still use a mouse.
The 2024 model seems to have solved this issue.
Plus the speakers are nicer, the 2023-s speakers are prety small, but decent.
All in all, it becomes more rafined so i like it.
I love the 3d mark results!
Definitely interested in that comparison.
I use those 3d mark benchmarks to quickly gauge performance based on my current hardware as a comparison point.
I wanna see that comparison!
shame about the lack of full size keyboard - no num pad is a deal breaker for me
Then you can go for Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i with the same CPU and GPU as this one.
My only concern is do you think I should be worried about the recent intel instability issues since it comes with an i9 14900HX?
another Jarrod vid! hell yeah
I would like this laptop compared with the Lenovo. I have the i7 4060 version. So a good comparison is much appreciated
Excellent review as always. I would really consider the G16 if it had 32GB + 4070 available in my region. Or if they make a good price for the 4080 configuration. But I don't think that's gonna happen.
i think most of us like to see the 3dmark scores, just for comparisons sake
its sad to see so many laptops with soldered memory. Especially since it rarely goes up to 64-gb
I can live without a second SSD and use an external hard drive and only need 1 internal SSD. But I can't do "external RAM" if I need more RAM in my computer :(
Thank you for the review.
I'm waiting for the review of the new Asus TUF A16, as it seems to have everything I'm looking for.
just find a 2022
Can't wait for thecomparison legion 7i vs Zephyrus G16
yes, please, compare with Lenovo Legion i7 :) Have to make good choice between them 2
GJ Jarrod! Regarding the intel 13 and 14th gen problems and AMD sticking to zen 4 in most CPUs, isn't it time to make a "buy now ir wait for RTX 50 series?" video?
Just wait ITS to expensive now
I have this exact model... The thing is a beast I enjoy battlefield 2042 on ultra at about 90fps. Hogwarts legacy on ultra at about 70fps. Its the nicest display I own, and the speakers really are glorious. Great for gaming, great for productivity, great for consumption. Very nice
Not sure if it's the best bang for the buck when it comes to Oled. Like the LOQ16 is to Led. Interesting review nevertheless. Appreciate it.
Would love to see a direct comparison between the legion 7i and this one. Although between software updates and an upcoming version with the new Ryzen processors, I'm liking the G16 more. Shame about the ASUS customer support though.
Really miss that flat (180°) opening display from models before :(
I heard you should not get the 4060/4070 version as the cooling is not enough to have a quiet laptop. the 4080 model has a vapor chamber and runs cooler and quieter even with a more powerful gpu, comparisons would be nice if it is worth spending extra if the laptop is noticeable quieter?
I really want the comparison of lenovo 7i and g16 in same specs almost plzzzzzzzz
16 gigs might be fine for gaming now but you might run into issues when running apps in the background like discord or especially web browser. I upgraded my G14 from 16 to 24 gigs because of that.
If Dell just made the new XPS lineup good, the Zephyrus models would have stood no chance with ASUSs warranty drama.
Great video. Please do a comparison with the Legion 7i. Thanks!
Hoping to see your review of the Yoga Pro 9i, seems very similar and competitive with the G16!
please do a comparison between Legion 7i and Zephyrus G16!
Ok!
Heard that G helper helps more with battery saving over armoury crate .
I just bought the 2023 version of this laptop 😊
17:30 i like the timespy. do you plan on making a video on how reliable the timespy is for estimating gaming performance? if one laptop has a timespy of 8000 and another has 10000, what kind of performance boost can we reasonably expect?
The new zephyrus laptops are super ultra light gaming laptops!
Maybe we could say that they are in comparison with premium ultrabooks with around the same configs; like Dell XPS, Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i, etc
And I think they can run games better than those
I just ordered the new AMD version with the Ryzen AI 370 and Rtx 4070. Hopefully Asus doesn't let me down again.
