  • WARNING! - If you try this experiment, you may get a lightning strike.
The electrostatic polarity detector can be used as a lightning strike detector.
Recently, lightning strikes frequently in the neighborhood due to atmospheric instability.
So I installed an electrostatic polarity detector outside the window.
The electrostatic polarity detector turns on when a lightning clouds getting closer.
Experiments show that lightning has two polarities.

Wow, this is awesome! It's interesting to theorize how effective of a representation this is for a storm of that size.
It'd be interesting to see a field full of these along with drones in the sky holding some, lol.

Flying drones during a storm? Not sure it's a good idea... Poor drones. LOL ;-)

Very good. You can make array of detectors, for example 4x4 or 6x6 with distance 50 meters between each, and show video in storm with lightning. This will show how increase electrostatic before flashing in 2D dimensions.

Interesting... The eletrostatic charge are common detected before the Ray, When the Lighting and the thunder happens, the eletrostatic charge stops. Really cool.

    Very interesting video.
Nevertheless, I won't say lightnings can have the two polarities. Your equipment detects the polarity arround it. So the air arround can can have a positive or a negative polarity during a storm. And that is enough surprising to me. Thank you for your sharing.

      @galaxystudio3740 4 роки тому +2

They can. There are negative strikes (most common) and positive strikes. Negative lightnings strikes from the bottom of the cloud but when cloud have negative charge at the base it have positive charge at the top, where positive lighnings come from, they are much more powerfull and can travel much gratest distances.

    • @theodorepollock1273

@@galaxystudio3740 negative strikes are what most people survive, and positive strikes are the ones that literally blow stuff up. Positive strikes are bad news.

positive strikes are the dangerous ones due to longet lasting time from the plasmachannel the longest positive strike counts a unbelivable two in a word two seconds

Is the detector detecting the polarity of the ground or the cloud? I'm guessing the air, because the light gets redder, or more positive after most of the flashes. Since 90% of CGs are negative, meaning electron go from the cloud to the ground, it leaves the cloud more positively charged. But maybe it is just calibration differences and cloud to cloud lightning.

make three such identical devices and put them in the corners of a triangle the size of one hundred meters, synchronize video recording in one window. This is not the polarity, but the presence of an excess or deficiency of charge in a local place.

Real lightning detectors work by measuring low frequency radio waves. You need a big field with 3 receivers in an equilateral triangle. Measure the time delay between the signals and you can calculate the direction and distance of each event.

When thunderstorm arrives at your location and if a strike occur then listen it..Mild but sharp sound will be of -ve..
Loud.. Strong..ear drum destroying sound like TNT explosion will be of +ve
