Lightning Detector Experiment (Electrostatic polarity detector)

- WARNING! - If you try this experiment, you may get a lightning strike.
The electrostatic polarity detector can be used as a lightning strike detector.
Recently, lightning strikes frequently in the neighborhood due to atmospheric instability.
So I installed an electrostatic polarity detector outside the window.
The electrostatic polarity detector turns on when a lightning clouds getting closer.
Experiments show that lightning has two polarities. - Наука та технологія
Wow, this is awesome! It's interesting to theorize how effective of a representation this is for a storm of that size.
It'd be interesting to see a field full of these along with drones in the sky holding some, lol.
Flying drones during a storm? Not sure it's a good idea... Poor drones. LOL ;-)
That's awesome. Would be able to get some great photos of lightning with this!!!!!

and thanks this is the most interesting thing i have seen this year
This is huge. Thank you.
Very good. You can make array of detectors, for example 4x4 or 6x6 with distance 50 meters between each, and show video in storm with lightning. This will show how increase electrostatic before flashing in 2D dimensions.
Interesting... The eletrostatic charge are common detected before the Ray, When the Lighting and the thunder happens, the eletrostatic charge stops. Really cool.
great job, amazing stuff!
Very interesting video.
Nevertheless, I won't say lightnings can have the two polarities. Your equipment detects the polarity arround it. So the air arround can can have a positive or a negative polarity during a storm. And that is enough surprising to me. Thank you for your sharing.
They can. There are negative strikes (most common) and positive strikes. Negative lightnings strikes from the bottom of the cloud but when cloud have negative charge at the base it have positive charge at the top, where positive lighnings come from, they are much more powerfull and can travel much gratest distances.
@@galaxystudio3740 negative strikes are what most people survive, and positive strikes are the ones that literally blow stuff up. Positive strikes are bad news.
false actually positive lightn7ngs come from the upper positive part of the cloud negative ones from the lower negative part
positive strikes are the dangerous ones due to longet lasting time from the plasmachannel the longest positive strike counts a unbelivable two in a word two seconds
Wow that interesting, you could add a buzzer to it to make it sound with each polarity would be more eye-catching... or more auditory :-)
This is great! Maybe time for an updated video with your new more sensitive detector?
Really impressive!
I am from Taiwan, I am sorry, my English is not good.
I am a low-level electrical maintenance person.
Sometimes I will be exposed to 11000V high voltage equipment.
I can't afford an expensive high-voltage detector.
Thank you for your teaching.
You are modern Benjamin Franklin
I from France and Dont worry you speak better english than me
I'm from India! I know many Americans tease us by our English! That's why I clarified many times about my english.. Because our national language and mother tounge language isn't english 😅 so..
It would be kind of fun to connect this up to smart lights so they would flicker with the lighting flashing outside :)
This is cool blue light shows negative strikes and red shows positive strikes
So is this possibly detecting whether the lightning is cloud to ground or ground to cloud ⚡🤔maybe⁉️.... this is really interesting ....🤘🏼 freaking awesome dude 🤘🏼
Nice machine
You can try to make a camera shutter trigger
I wonder if you had many of those if you could triangulate a future strike
Hi mr thomas, is it possible to attract lightning like kreosan guys did or it just fancy vfx? What do u think?
Good video but the rain made me asleep
Very cool :)
대단하십니다
Does the polarity correspond to 'Air to Ground' versus 'Ground to Air' lightning strikes?
Awesome
наглядное пособие демонстрирующее избыток или недостаток зарядов в локальном месте
Is the detector detecting the polarity of the ground or the cloud? I'm guessing the air, because the light gets redder, or more positive after most of the flashes. Since 90% of CGs are negative, meaning electron go from the cloud to the ground, it leaves the cloud more positively charged. But maybe it is just calibration differences and cloud to cloud lightning.
i take the blue and red lights mean positive or negative strike?
you can make video recordings that have been cut
Awesome device. I use primitive coherer and it works excellent
Nice observation. Coherers are really intriguing.
What is the schematic of this circuit?
make three such identical devices and put them in the corners of a triangle the size of one hundred meters, synchronize video recording in one window. This is not the polarity, but the presence of an excess or deficiency of charge in a local place.
Awesome device can you tell how to make it
Это таакк ккруутоо!!!!! Просто Не останавливайся !)
Onde consigo o projeto desse?
SUPER.
whats benefit of this detector
Esta muy interesante este aparato, pero funciona con cualquier mosfet de tipo p y n? Yo lo hice pero no me funciono😥😥😥
Real lightning detectors work by measuring low frequency radio waves. You need a big field with 3 receivers in an equilateral triangle. Measure the time delay between the signals and you can calculate the direction and distance of each event.
Say please, how made this generator?
how to make tat device
👍👏
How do i build it?
So sheet lightning ( cloud to cloud) is blue and forked lightning ( cloud to ground ) is red?
I wonder if a longer antenna would detect lightning at a greater distance.
Green Silver cloud to cloud = red or blue, cloud to ground = red
It doesnt matter. Both type of lightning (CC-cloud-cloud and CG-cloud ground) can have any polarity.
@@ThomasKim Cloud to ground can be positive as well, it's called CG+
No it's not like that .
There are +ve strikes to..
To be honest most dangerous is +ve because of it forms..Travel time and it's intensity is 5x than -ve strike..
When thunderstorm arrives at your location and if a strike occur then listen it..Mild but sharp sound will be of -ve..
Loud.. Strong..ear drum destroying sound like TNT explosion will be of +ve
You selling these yet?
hello thomas kim i want buy one of this experment i did try it but fail`d its hard to conect and smal too, i wonder if u can make one for me il pay for it if need as long its under 30 buck`s i have not mutch money but love to have this Lightning Detector.
If you are Thomas Kim, I've always wondered who is JM?
jonnywaselectric my Korean name is Jong Myeong Kim
lol i just wanted to ask the same question
Kapcsolási rajz van?
Молодец. Попробую сделать как у тебя.
А схема?
Which polarity would come from ball lightning?
A ball lightning is supposed to be a plasma ball made of superheated air. So propably it shouldn't have any charge.
your last one ;) most probably
Guys an DIY is on the experimentboy channel
I like Coca Cola lightning more than Pepsi lightning 😂
👍👍
You might be able to detect lighting strike position with this device.
Yeah with a network of these I suppose it would
Generally you use three or more radio receivers spread out over a couple square kilometres and use triangulation to calculate the position of the lightning strike
like a tsunami detection buoy system
The only thing extra us serge protection. That would be a wonderful set up.
Diagrama detector de campo
Yes I am right.
Do you sell Arduino breakouts?
