    I think it would be good if we managed to salvage some more artifacts and if we took more pictures of the interiors and the debris field while we can. That said, anything salvaged should strictly stay in museums, no private sales.

    I think the only way to dry the Titanic without destroying it, is to build around it a huge 4000 meters high wall bold enough to withstand surrounding ocean pressure, and pump out water from inside. Even in 1985 when it was found, it would still have been impossible. The structure was already compromised heavily when it hit the sea bed. And even by 1985 rusticles had largely consumed the ship, and bringing it back up 2 miles to the surface from the incredible pressure of 12500 feet on the Atlantic floor, taking into consideration that, like the video says that the ship's been resting in freezing waters for over a century, it's just not doable. Plus, the titanic is humongous.

      Titanic is an artifact, you can't tell me people wouldn't be interested in a piece of Titanic by claiming pieces of it.If it's not an artifact,at the very least, that ship belongs at the Smithsonian,like Lindbergh plane.
      I agree there are challenges to remove Titanic from the ocean floor. But remember science always had a way to work out,and hopefully some scientific genius can work out the calculus to figure exactly how many lift bags are needed to bring that glorious ship to the surface. That's probably true, but more importantly that rusty old shipwreck should be left alone, she's also a Mass grave yard and should be respected as such. Leave her alone, let her rest. Besides even if someone could raise her that wouldn't erase the tragedy or bring back the poor souls that lost her lives on board the Titanic on that fateful night back in 1912

  • @michaelb1766
    @michaelb1766 Рік тому +116

    I would say using underwater laser cutters and breaking off 10 to 1000 ton slabs at a time with the help of lift bags. There's a chance to take small sections at a time, then piece them together -weld them. I think that is the best solution. Titanic is a big ship, raising it is an enormous engineering task. But I think the best solution is preserving pieces of Titanic in museums before it's lost to the salt water forever.

It’s extremely likely you’re standing right now where someone died (even several people). It’s also very likely your house is built where several people also died, but you’re not complaining about that, right? It’s annoying how people complain about petty things. The nerd side of me wants it to be raised because I would love for it to be preserved considering it’s a piece of history, and I would really like to see it in person. The morally correct side of me wants it to be left alone because it is a grave site, not an attraction, and that’s realistically how it should stay. I say raise it and let me tell you why... The whole reason we are able to have this conversation, The whole reason we are able to go down and see it with submersibles and submarines, the whole reason we continuously study it is because the structure is still there. Once it finally deteriorates everything is lost. All future research, all data and 3D imaging... Everything. It'll all be gone forever. You want to talk about a grave site? Well, technically we have so many pieces of the Titanic and artifacts from it, It's almost like grave robbing right? It's not like the imprint and all of the debris at the seafloor will disappear. It'll still be there. But wouldn't you much rather be able to see the Titanic years from now or another 100 years from now instead of only having memories of people mentioning it who have actually went down to see it? So you might as well just pull it up. Sure. It might crumble up a little on his way up, but we have people who put together dinosaur bones and things way harder than that. It can definitely be done

Then even if you got it to the surface, how and where do you bring it to shore to a safe place for preservation? I don't think you understand how insane this idea is. There could be a robot or 2 clearing the sand around the front part of the Titanic's Bow, which could also help reveal the iceberg marks, this will help us also know what really caused the Titanic to sink. The Titanic would slowly get used to the new temperature and pressure, and inside the box could also be lights that help see the Titanic easier. About 'Raise the Titanic ', yeah you gotta give it cred for the tech of the day and what was known. The description fits the book, so ya can't knock that. Superbly done for a miniature, and to be honest, a lot of old movie buffs love the miniature/stop motion/old methods look of these older films. Like a 57 Chevy, sure it wouldn't be up to the play for modern use/traffic/ease of use/performance/safety, -but I reckon the greater portion of people would think it's just cool.

To try and see what the iceberg damage may look like. Some say it tore into the side, but some speculate that the Titanic's under belly was gouged open instead. Maybe both. 1- take all the photos and videos possible of the entire wreck for the last time. try to recover some extra things (maybe a propeller and other cool stuff). Put all in museums. Leave the original ship rest in peace.
    2- make two ships: 1) an exact copy of Olympic, using the original plans, same materials, everything. Everything looking exactly as it was in it's glorious days. Preserve it as a museum ship, and use it for special trips once or twice a year (events, anniversaries, etc). 2) a copy of the Titanic, but equiped with modern technology and amenities, powered by modern engines, etc. And this one could be something more like a modern cruise ship, but with the aesthetic of a 1900s ship.
    There you have it: the original as a memorial, an exact clone representing all the Olympic class in all it's glory, and a modern and safe one for tourists and fanatics.

    I don't really see it as worth the effort for either memorial or scientific reasons, personally. I think the current ultra-high definition 3d scan is enough of a memorial. Though I do agree a scan of the interior would be amazing as well. As for if we could have lifted the bow in its 1980 condition, I'm not one hundred percent on that. I recently watched Cameron's simulation of the sinking, if there's a newer one please direct me to it, but when the bow hit bottom it seemed to have broken it's back. I'd not be surprised if its internal superstructure is shattered and the outside plating is what is holding most of it together. I feel even if it could have been raised immediately after sinking the structural integrity was catastrophically compromised. I think it would be like trying to pick up a sand castle with your hands.

      Are they end up down there in a very respectful manners? Its a no right?Nobody on the ship feels happy when the ship started to sink. So doing anything to the old metal ship is nothing respectful nor disrespectful. If you believe in spiritual thing and we were capable of raising the ship,im convinced the victim would make a big party on the ship knowing they would be able to see the light of the day again. God said let there be light.

    Let’s get both bow and stern raised. Try and get it all glued back together and find a puddle somewhere that it can stay afloat in

    The irony is the very thing that Destroyed the Titanic also made her immortal to humans. Had she never sank that night she probably would have either ended up scrapped (like one of her sister ships in the 30's) or requisitioned during ww2 and probably sunk (like her other sister ship). The Titanic would have at best become a footnote in history.

    The best way to “raise” the Titanic is take 3D photos of the wreckage and build its state on land so that anyone can explore what it looks like in its current state. I think it can be possible with our current technology, if not, then pretty soon.

    "Raise the Titanic" cost $20 million to make, which was a lot of money in the 1970s (for context, the original Star Trek film, at the time of release, was the most expensive film ever made, coming in at $42 million). The model Titanic cost $7m.

    It is a kind of resting place, which should be left alone, so much has already been done
    and I find diving to see the wreck up close
    towards it scary and lurid.

    I firmly believe that yes we can raise the wreckage. We pulled up a sunken russian sub loaded with nuclear weapons several decades ago, we can get the wreckage up. However, what would we be raising? Chunks of the steel hull. Broken, rusting internal steel girders. Rotting electronic boards, light bulbs, ceramic work in the pool and steam rooms. Some lamps. By the time it hits the surface, it's not going to look like pieces of the ship, rather more like a wet, floating junk yard. So again, can we? Yes. Better question is "To what end?"

  • @CaJaAr9469
    @CaJaAr9469 Рік тому +1

    Yeah, the hull has had its iron removed by the water, so it needs water to keep it together or it’s just dust.

    If We Do Want To Raise The Titanic, The Best Bet Would Be To Slowly Cut Pieces Off The Ship Then Raise Those Pieces Until We Have Most, If Not All Of What’s Left Of The Ship, Then We Leave It On Display In A Way Where All The Parts Are Shaped To Still Look Like The Wreck, But Reattaching All The Pieces Would Be To Risky

    The best option we have are just to recover items from the titanic so that we have memories of the titanic and the people that parished during this event, cause the ship is slowly disappearing.

    I don't view it as morally wrong to raise the titanic in order to keep the memory and legency of it alive for future generations to remember once it corrodes away in the ocean who exactly would be to blame for that the sea? so long as we respectfully raise the titanic and preserve it's legacy I don't see a problem with raising it

  • @Jason607

    It would have to be broken apart and then pulled up piece by piece. Each piece would have to go trough extensive treatment. Then rigged back together in a fashion that would look like a ship.

    My best theory is to slide a huge steel plate 60 or more feet below the Titanic, and lift it with the corners of the plate. That way it comes up with the sand/dirt its buried in, without compromising the structural integrity of the ship. It would just fall apart in a million pieces any other way.

    Man I can’t believe a lot of people were literally all about wanting to resurrect that thing I’m like no it’s a graveyard don’t disrespect the dead. As a kid I thought it was a good idea but as soon as I hit my teens and then now I’m fully an adult I literally just look at this like yeah that’s not possible. Quite frankly that whole thing would break upon even taking it up to the surface I mean a small piece they tried to take out in the 90s which they did I mean they I think tried the first time it broke off then the next time they managed to get it. It’s just not possible to get that what are used to be the most spectacular ship of dreams until it well met a horrible end. Strangely enough, I started watching that movie when I was seven that was like 1999. Now it’s like yeah I think it’s better off to be left alone the titanic.

    If it were raised what could it be useful for? It couldn't be restored. How about making a new one exactly from the original blueprints using period materials and methods and have it done as close to the original construction site as possible? No modernization. At least it would be useful as a historical representation.

    Personally, the last thing that would be left standing is going to be the triple expansion steam engines, even though the stern has finally collapsed those engines are standing strong!
