Good stuff, so awesome to see this man teach on to his son, Lee was an idol to me growing up and still is and one of the guys that made me want to become fitness educated. This back workout is great and very balanced, anything underhand always hits the lower lats and " the chicken wing" as hunter described by nature, as the overhand grips allows your scapula to adjust and raise in its position, which engages the upper back. Raising the scapula and leveator muscles allows to almost shrug the shoulders up slightly: rear delts, rhomboids and upper traps, depending how high you raise the arms on a bent over row with a barbell or dumbbell, which may engage the front delt so you can bring the bar higher towards you chest, by nature the weight will pull the bar down naturally towards the belly button area, like bent over rows, should be done underhand which allows the scapula to relax in position, leveator muscles to stay nice and secure, preventing a shrugging motion with the pull and hits the lower lats inner and outer and lower traps. If your trying to target the upper back, isolate it, the "chicken wing effect", use the pull down bar or ropes, raise the cable pulley setting higher to take out the front delts, and hit the muscles of the upper back, remember to widen your grip as you hit the back higher to the upper inner back, as you go down the lumbar region of the lats to bottom, you want to go closer with a neutral grip row, to hit the inner part. It seems confusing, but to hit the inner part of the back for the upper part, you go wide on horizontal pulls , to hit the inner part of the lower lats on a horizontal pull, you go close. many people confuse the terminology with back thickness as " the middle" , this is why with many clients i try and be specific and explain, there is thickness to the outer and inner part of the lats, their is width to the upper and lower part of the lats as well. doing a high row wide=horizontal pull ,can actually can disengage the lats, to work the rear delts, traps and rhomboids, so if your confusing that to widen your back, stay wide and switch from a horizontal pull to a vertical pull= wide lat pull down, overhand. if your wondering why there is no overhand wide grip for horizontal pull, for a low seated row, is because the back shapes into a cobra, it gets wider as it goes to the top, so it will not target the area properly not to mention will put massive strain on the shoulders if your doing wide horizontal pulls= seated rows /w wide grip/ so stay with a neutral grip= two handed attachment made for rowing. fyi, the ability to be able to have a great contraction for a back exercise really depends on a how flexible the front deltoids and pectorals are, many clients of mine i make the train back before chest, not mention opens the chest up allowing to build a bigger chest and prevent and heal shoulder issues that cause hunching over also known as "the gorilla effect". if you train chest before back which im sure many do, you have lack of mobility in the shoulder to pull back with a full range of motion due to soreness, fatigue and tightness from your previous chest workout and sometimes can even cause shoulder issues. The back is the most complex muscle in the human body, legs is the largest muscle group, but the back actually has the most muscle
    groups.

This has got to be the best video I've seen on how to get & keep the muscle involved into the exercise. Listen its so so easy to perform an exercise while not having the targeted muscle involved which is one main reason growth doesn't happen. I'm sure I'll watch this a few more times for motivation. lol

Guys, just wanted to say what a great video this is. There is so much noise and bravado around on UA-cam and this is just an honest informative video from guys who clearly know lifting. Thank you, Hunter and Lee, for this education. I'm going to try this workout on Sunday. I'm a million years old and a natty trainer and just frustrated that when I hit a double bi pose, my lats don't pop out like a cobra's shield the way so many other guys' do. I saw another video that gave me the education that I've been pulling too much with the traps by mistake. Anyway, I appreciate this video. Wish my gym had some friendly training-inspiration visuals such as the two of you. Most of the visual training inspiration in my gym just focuses on its own reflection in the mirror and doesn't give most of the rest of us the "time of day."
