Dwejra Bay, Gozo

Dwejra is a region located on the west coast of Gozo, characterised by its nature and its geology. Its name means 'little house' and it really owes this name to a small house built on the cliffs. Dwejra is famous for the Azure Window, but it offers other places of equal beauty. The largest monoliths include the Fungus Rock known colloquially as Il-Ġebla tal-General (rock in general), a 65-meter-high rock that forms a small limestone islet. Today it is a nature reserve and access is prohibited except for scientific reasons.
Also in the bay is the Dwejra Tower, built during the reign of Grand Master Lascarisen 1651 to ward off enemy attacks. As a curiosity, its main function was to control access to the Fungus Rock. Further north is the Inland Sea Dive site, better known as the Inland Sea, a lagoon that only connects to the Mediterranean through a cave in the strait about 50 meters long. Most of the people do not get to know this inland sea and it is a veritable green pond in which people can bathe. Marine erosion plays a great role in the region, both when creating the well-known cliffs and when forming different underground caves and even marine sub-caves.
The Blue Hole stands out, a deep hole with an arch submerged in the water of special attraction among divers in the area. The fauna that can be found on this coast is also of vital importance, since it cannot be found in other regions of the country; for example, they raise diverse birds of anomalous species in the high cliffs. In the case of flora, the same thing happens, in Inland Sea we find an endemic plant that only grows in that same place. As a curiosity, they are like small yellow flowers and it is rumored that they smell like curry; Likewise, some carvings collected in the area have been transplanted for conversation due to their peculiarities that only exist in this habitat to the botanical garden of the University of Malta. Dwejra as you can see, is a unique and special habitat, a special nature that must be known.
