From the Urban Dictionary website, I looked up what a "Dake" is. QUOTE: A dake is always calm and collected and never loses his temper. A dake encompasses the word "awesome", and succeeds in any venture that he takes on, overcomes any challenge in his way. Used to describe one interesting as hell dude.
God bless that DAKE it does a great job. The old T handle is very interesting I never seen anything like that before. Comparing it to today’s model goes to prove “they don’t make them like they used to”!
And also, I am with you on the old tools. I have restored a few, and they are 75-100 years old and will last another 100. That newer plastic crecent screwdriver looks like it wouldn't last a few months. I hope you get as knowledgeable as you with finding and restoring tools. You are my favorite tools restorer on UA-cam ( you and handtool rescue of course)
Man, I'd like to have some of those, they'd be very handy in the toolbox. I was kind of hoping you'd show how you grind the tips. They've always been a problem for me. Thanks for more great old tools restored!
It is just so pleasing to see you enjoy these old quality tools. I wished manufacturers nowadays would put that much effort into their products. Taking pride in what they manufacture seems to have gone out of fashion with a lot of them. I wish you all the best. Keep up the good work!
Hello Gareth Russell! Definitely keep your eye out for one, they pop up a lot in bunches! You might not see one for weeks then five will appear! Lol. When it rains it pours! Thanks so much!!! 😃👍
ScoutCrafter thanks so much for taking the time to reply to my comment Scout. I will certainly look out for one of these screwdrivers although, living in Australia, we don’t seem to get half of the cool stuff that you guys in the States get.
Hello David! So far this is one of the best tools I ever reviewed, the quality is amazing and I hope you pick one up just to play with! =) Thanks very much!!!!!!
What a gorgeous screwdriver , I’ve seen these before but like many have commented I can’t get my hands on one! I’ve been binging on your restorations these last couple of days lol ,greetings from the people’s republic of California
Hello fortis619! LOL!!! People's Republic of California!!! That is too funny! I lived in Santa Monica for a while and then spent much more time in Camp Pendleton... 😃👍. I'm so glad you like the videos!!! Thanks so much!!!!
Another fantastic restoration! Great quality screwdriver. Too bad they don't make them today. The Dake is unbelievable at straightening bent tools Thanks for sharing this.
Excellent restoration and insight to this awesome tool. I have the K24 and use it daily in my field of work. I modified it by adding a wooden handle to the flat part of the screwdriver for added grip when hammering. When I need to use the screwdriver, I remove the wooden handle. It is my favorite tool!
The Dake and the Crescent screwdriver/hammer....this could be the ultimate tool restoration video 😂. Great video! I had no idea they made three different sizes. Thanks for the plug and thanks for sharing! Cheers, Joe
Hi Joe!! Everybody loves the Dake! =) I should work for them! I would sell a ton of them! (Sounds good but because they are so heavy it's deceiving) I wonder what the third size looks like! Mine are 9-1/2 and 7-1/2" Measured from hammer to blade. Thanks!!!!!!!!!
Another great upload and a fine restoration. Those drivers look awesome, I've never come across them before. Thanks for showing us. Have a lovely weekend👍🏻
Hello TD! I'm so glad you enjoyed the project! I have a small bonus video tomorrow of a tractor show I went to today, nothing big just some pretty Iron! 😃👍. Thanks so much!
It's a crying shame that tool makers have targeted the masses with cheap, pick up and use once tools. The problem is people don't fix things themselves anymore. They only buy cheap tools to get by and try and avoid having to pay extra money for repairs. And yet the same people have no problem paying $1000 for a new cell phone! Thank you so much for keeping the old craft, and the old tools alive as a reminder of how SOLID America once was. Our tools are a reflection of what we use to be and what we are now. -Mike
Hi Mike! You are spot on with your assessment of the way things are! The only good thing is that there are still lots of great tools out there for people like us to get at a very reasonable price and enjoy! Maybe 100 years ago we cold afford such nice tools but now we can! =) Thanks very much!!!!!!
Once again another great job. I love these restoration videos because you are genuinely excited when you bring an old tool back to life. There is no fake in you and that makes these videos great.
Hello bcraig1970- Funny thing is there are some tools that are just so well made that you are just humbled by their quality and design! I get giddy like that! Lol. Thanks so much!!!! 😃👍
You did those tools justice, we love our vintage machinery and tool and we see what Crescent was trying to replicate with the new one HUH. no match to your fine pair of screw handle hammers. Thank you for doing those two tools proud. We share the same common use of DAKE press, we love our press a lot also.
Hello AA!!! Wow! You have a Dake too! What a great unit!!! I always said when I move into my enlarged shop I'm going to buy the Dake model that hasn't changed since the 20's! I'm a sucker for a nice press! Thanks so much!!!!! 😃👍
Hello DJG! Yes! I found out years ago Cold bending is much better! Once you destroy the factory temper the steel gets softer! However when it comes to bolts, a little heat will save you from breaking it! =) Thanks so much!!!!!
Nice job those came out great. Good tips for Joe on the painting that would do it. Now if we could just get that guy to clean his shop LOL! His Klein's came out beautifully looked familar. Keep these great videos coming!
Hello Phil! LOL!!! Joe is great! I really love his videos because you never know what he's going to say next!! I swear I must laugh out loud at least once or twice during his videos! You can't lose with Klein's! They are just so well made! Now I know why all the electricians use them exclusively! Thanks so much!!! 😃👍
Hello KK! These were pretty easy to find a while ago but hard to find on eBay now! They are very well made!!!!! If you ever see one pick it up! =) Thanks!!!!!!
great never seen anything like it before made my friday night cant wait for your next one mate you and your loved ones stay safe with the impending storm god bless
Howdy, greetings from The wilds of rural Colorado. I have wanted one or 10 of those crescent drivers for years, ever since I saw one 10 yrs. ago. I just love the dake, wish i had one. Take care, happy hunting
What a great tool and a lovely restoration by you . I have a pocket version made of cast aluminium that takes 1/4 hex bits handy to have ,as far as the new one a 6 in one is a useful tool but I'm afraid I'd be looking into making a new handle and turning it into a really useful tool ,maybe a future video? I would definitely say you've got more than enough tooling and most importantly the skill without a doubt. Thanks again Mr crafter enjoyed have a great weekend 👍
AmericanCoinHunting Hi Dave!!! I'm so glad you liked these! I was at a pretty cool show today and made a short video for tomorrow, thanks so much!!! 😃👍
Hello SP! YES! Me too! Ever since I was a kid I loved Knurling! In fact J.E. Johnson also designed and patented a Knurling tool! Sweet!!!! Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello Emerson! The hardest part is telling the size from a pic! I remember buying a ratchet one time on eBay with no description, I thought it was 3/8 but it was 1/4". Lol. The background made it look bigger! 😃👍. Thanks!!!!
Roboscoutcrafter 2118 I’ve got this plastic handled craftsman multi screwdriver from 100 years ago. I’m not wasting my time on that, we’re calling this project junk. So long, have a great weekend thanks for watching, see you next time
I didn't manage to find one of those screwdrivers but I did get a couple of adjustable wrenches. One is a 7.5 (8 inch) inch monkey wrench made by Gordon Tools in Sheffield UK and the other is a 6 inch wrench by Irimo, this one is different in that it has a small knurled knob underneath to adjust it. I have posted some photos on my Instagram instagram.com/rathsix/ I look forward to seeing your boot sale visit. 👍
What a beautiful pair of screwdrivers and the modern equivalent is a joke compared. Your ability to find these awesome tools is amazing and I am green with envy and jealousy :-). A fantastic restoration and I for one cannot wait for any of your videos as I consider them a MUST watch. Best wishes from an autumnal UK.
Hello Tony! Mr. J.E. Johnson did such a great job on these, in doing research for this I also see he designed and patented a Knurling tool! I wonder how many other tools he designed?! Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!
Fantastic job Scoutcrafter! I have never seen one of those but will now keep an eye out. Did find an old ax with the vintage handles at an estate sale and it also had a screwdriver on one end. Never did see one of those before. I will try an restore with your method.
Back when tools weren't throwaways! I will have to keep an eye out for one. Just picked up a little giant 24" offset wrench with a twist in the handle - my weekend might be cut out for me *lol* I think the torch might be needed for this one :)
Hello Steve! Yes, the twists are harder then the bends! Think Leverage! Get a big ole crowbar and straighten her right out!!!!! =) Thanks very much!!!!!!!
Typical old vs. new school. No wonder we're dummied down! My first socket sets were Crescent , 1/4, 3/8ths and 1/2 inch drive, and were bought in the late 60's or early 70's. I still have most of them and they are still fine to work with. Someone else has the rest but tools tend to get swapped but I'll take the old stuff AND those screwdrivers are SUPER! A WOW job on the re-do! Thanks SC! A-PLUS! Bet Uncle Sneelock grinned on this one as well as Mr. Chadwick!
Hello Lewie! I agree 100%, the older stuff was so nice and the steel was better, today there are so many different grades of steel and designers trying to save money by cutting corners... It's a shame... Thanks so much!!!!!!
WOW nice I like them, except the last one, well.....also love to see the DAKE in action. Good job, you mentioned a 3rd one in the set, you have to find that one, I am guessing it is a smaller one.
Hello Abdulah! I wish I knew if it was a bigger or smaller one! I think the Knurling appeals to all of us tool guys! It's like something a machinist would make for himself! Lol. Thanks so much!!!
The Super-wrench Garage - Hi Matt! These are unbelievable quality! Keep an eye out for one, you won't be sorry! (I know that because you are a tool guy!). Lol. Thanks!!!
@@ScoutCrafter thanks I appreciate the compliment. I do like tools hope to get up to Carlisle and hit the swap meet for some potential gems. Quality tools can last a long time
Hi, enjoyed the video. Don't know if anyone else said this, but for the new Crescent tool you have to "pop it" in place. you push on the shaft towards the handle and it pops in place, you'll have almost no play if you do that.
I love watching your videos....they are so well Crafted😂...and we can feel the totally honest enjoyment and love you have for the tools you restore. If it's not giving away any secrets maby you can list the fleas and tractor shows you frequent... I can understand if you elect not to...thanks
Hi Nick! Absolutely!!! The way I feel is "What goes around, comes around!" We are such a small tool restoration group that there is plenty to go around!!! Do you live in the North East USA? Next week in Kent Connecticut is a AWESOME show!!! 😃👍
Another great video to watch after school! My grandparents bought a house across the street from there and my grandpa gave me a tiny jewelers vice! Its built kinda weird thought. It has a threaded handle but the vice wont work unless it has a spring in it to help move it together and apart. I thought it was cool. Anyways thanks for another great video scout!
Hello Mason! Lot's of those older Jewelers vises were finicky, however sometimes they just need a good cleaning and lubrication to get them smooth as silk!!! Thanks very much!!!!!!!
Late to view since I’m on vacation and yesterday was a travel day. Love the Dake as always but the nugget was the tip on using the plywood. I have a degree in physics but science can’t teach you these things only experience can. Love your work, ScoutCrafter, but I can’t decide - better as a teacher or salesman? LOL
Hi John! That little plywood trick is really neat!!! It compresses just enough to get the job done!! Presses are just so much fun to use! Even my Girlfriend loves the Dake! Lol. Thanks so much!!!
Haha, I had to go out to my tool boxes to find some of mine. You are exactly right on the build on these guys; they are top notch. I've got some that are pretty rough looking but still operate and absolutely no play in them! As for those new ones, I guess they figured even a light duty hammer was a no-go, Haha! Beautiful work on the restoration as always!
Going to another barn auction in the morning! Wish me luck I'm hoping for a good find last time I got some good stuff like that chas parker I'd love to see what ya think... I was tickled by the out come... I binge watch all your videos all the time and enjoy them every time!!! I would love an autographed tool for in my garage!!!
These are awesome you can tell the difference of mass produced junk to vintage strong hard working tools also that was a very clever fix on the bend have a awesome weekend scout and thanks for sharing :D
Todd vid. I have those crescent handles on a set of nut drivers. When you open them in the t handle position you push down to lock them in. They aren’t that loose after you do that.
Love all your videos. I have both of these. How do I find out the spring and internal cap for the Larger one? I also have a smaller one that is missing the dowel screw to keep it together?
Wou!!! Just awesome the quality of this screwdriver T handle, the precision of the mechanism! Extremely well made A treasure in the tools history the originals crescent tools and what a pitty that the present tool of this famous brand looks like a pice of China Garbage compared with 1917 Grand Father T handled screwdriver! I feel some nostalgic for the old tools manufacturers that make Real tools durable and consistent just I hearing the sound when you open the T handled, like a Swiss army multitool... Thanks my friend scout Crafter exelent video!! A lesson of history! Go ahead friend!!!!
Hello, wladimir! I can tell you enjoy the quality of a precision tool! You are so right, what a shame that we have fallen to levels of accepting junk tools! The best part of restoring and collecting vintage tools is that we can experience the beautiful workmanship of our ancestors!!! Thanks so much!!!! 😃👍
Scout love your show.Question if you don’t mind,I collect eggbeater drills, got quite a few.I i pick them up at markets and boot sales,Get them for pennies!after a little TLC they all come upfactory new,However one little chatecter looks brand spanking new, except when I put a bit in and crank away the bit dances around in a circle. The jaws are perfect, any ideas.?
I bet...it's a shame that modern screws very rarely use straight bits..Phillips, torque, square, etc...very efficient modern day..thank God...technology.. amazing only a very short time of history...I really Love it...
Hello Ben! From what I read they made a special socket set and other accessories to fit this tool! This is why I need to learn to weld! There are a few of these that show up cheap with tip damage, cut off the tip and weld on a 3/8" drive, grind it smooth and you have an awesome tool!!!!! Thanks!!!!!!!
So many wonderful American tools of bygone era you got there - wish I could find such clever designs and quality over here in Europe. Well, UK has quite a lot of old British steel tools but they are not as innovative or clever (but works).
Happy Friday! Hey my brother, everything you restore, turns to gold. I have tried winning a bit on eBay, for a pair of pliers you have reviewed and have lost because they get costly. I'm trying to get a pair of Klien linemen pliers for myself and they're getting pricey. I'm sure that, if I try to find a pair of these Crescent screwdrivers, I won't fine them. LOL, But who cares, I enjoyed the video as much as owning a pair. Keep up the good work. Semper Fi!
Hello Pablo! The prices always fluctuate on eBay, one day you will see 10 of something and next week nothing! Here's a tip- Look under "Lots" like tool lot or Plier lot... you will be surprised at what pops up! Thanks very much! Semper Fi!
Hello Bill! LOL! I try not to get excited over a restoration but sometimes I can't hide my enthusiasm! Now you know why I am never good at bargaining! Imagine this- "Wow this is the best tool ever I got to have it! -How much!?" LOL Thanks very much!
Awsome, awsome, awsome video/ tool restoration. Would you be willing to share some of the actual restoration techniques? e.g. how you removed the chip in the blade, how to hollow grind using what tools and angles and how you removed the sharpened blade etc. Even if these were multipart vids. Thank you for sharing this fab restoration with us.
Hello ISO guy! Yes! I have been slacking off on the how too parts of the video, mostly because I want to keep the videos as short as possible... I used to try for under 5 minutes but that is super hard! On this video I focused in on how to use the press (Dake) to straighten out the shaft. I am currently working on two other projects! Thanks!!!!!!!!!
Yes, outstanding history lesson, it is so nice to see these beautiful old tools! Thank you! 😃👏🏻☮️
Beautiful! I so enjoy watching your videos on restoring! Thank you! I will keep watching all your videos! 😃👏🏻
That older cresant screwdriver is definitely a must have ! What great quality the older tools seem to have!
Nice work on the restoration !
Hello Tony! So many of the tools I restore are nice but you are so right when you say these are a must have item!!! Thanks so much!!!!!!!

Now those are just plain cute. Better than new and quality you can't find these days!
Hello Michael! I bet these would cost a boat-load if made today! Thanks so much!!!!!!!
Wow those are beautiful.
Cool screwdrivers!
THANK YOU...for sharing.
I would love to get my hands on one of these screwdrivers. Thanks for yet another immaculate restoration Scout!

Wow I had no idea those things existed. Beautiful result. Now, I want one!

Man that's just beautiful. Old is gold for real .
Hello EA! You are so right! How lucky are we that we can find these old tools, clean them up and enjoy them!? Thanks so much!!!!!
Amazing. The tolerances are unbelievable and the materials are top notch. Another great one Scoutcrafter!

Oh just a joy to see thank you
Hello Loxxxton! Yes! These are just lovely!!!!!! Thanks so much!!!!!!!!

Fantastic job Scoutcrafter! I have never seen one of those but will now keep an eye out. Did find an old ax with the vintage handles at an estate sale and it also had a screwdriver on one end. Never did see one of those before. I will try an restore with your method.
Hello Fabian! Estate sales are the absolute best place to get great tools cheap! Thanks!!!!!!
As always they look great! What a great set to add to your collection!
Quality tools can last a long time
Great video! I have one that belonged to my Grandfather.
Hello Al! There is nothing better then that!!!! It also means your Grandfather had awesome taste!!!! Thanks!!!!!
Hi, enjoyed the video. Don't know if anyone else said this, but for the new Crescent tool you have to "pop it" in place. you push on the shaft towards the handle and it pops in place, you'll have almost no play if you do that.
Hello Victor! Yes, the newer Crescent has little play and works... It's just hard to see our new tools lasting 50 years... Thanks very much!!!!!!
Wow, very nice !
Thanks so much!!!!!!!
Great job. Big difference in the quality of tools for sure!!
Hello William! It's a shame isn't it? At least we can still get the old stuff! Thanks!!!!!!!!
@@ScoutCrafter yes I agree it is. Love the videos!!
Nice saving. It only seems like you need to make a box for this set now.
Hello AR! Yes! With nice Green Felt lining! Just perfect for such a tool! Thanks very much!!!!!!!
Hello Kenneth! You have these!! Then you know! Aren't they just beautiful!?!?! One of the best tools ever made! =) Thanks so much!!!!!!!
Hello Dave!!! Send me some pics if you pick up anything! Barn auctions are awesome!!! I always wanted a Barn!!! 😃👍. Bicycleguy@aol.com
Thanks great video you do a wonderful job on the Polish
Hello Willy! Thanks very much! These gems deserved the very best effort! My hope is that Mr. John Emil Johnson would be proud! =)
Perfection!
Hello Dirtyharry! I'm so glad you liked them! Thanks so much!!! 😃👍
Well what can I say I think you said it all superb tool , great video thank you as usual . Love the enthusiasm.
Hello Kevin! A special thanks to Mr J.E. Johnson for not compromising!!!! =) Thanks so much!!!!!!
These are awesome you can tell the difference of mass produced junk to vintage strong hard working tools also that was a very clever fix on the bend have a awesome weekend scout and thanks for sharing :D
Hello LV! I can't tell you just how great these feel in the hand! What great screwdrivers!!!! Well 2 of them anyway! LOL Thanks!!!!!!!
@@ScoutCrafter haha indeed I can imagine and you are welcome :D
Très beaux très rares ces tournevis. Merci.
Hello Richard! Thanks so much my friend!!!! 😃👍
Todd vid. I have those crescent handles on a set of nut drivers. When you open them in the t handle position you push down to lock them in. They aren’t that loose after you do that.
Another beautiful job well done God bless you family and friends ☺👍👍👍👍👍
Hello Reynaldo!!! Thanks so much my friend!!!!!!!!
Love all your videos. I have both of these. How do I find out the spring and internal cap for the Larger one? I also have a smaller one that is missing the dowel screw to keep it together?
Always look forward to you videos scoutcrafter!!! Another great video
Hello Colton! Thankyou so much! I really appreciate that!!!!!
"His is bigger than mine" ...Spit coffee all over my laptop ! Another great video buddy ! Happy Friday
Hello PP! LOL- The funny thing is I have a bench full of tools waiting for restoration and Joe always beats me to the punch! =) Thanks so much!!!!!!!!
Love the videos. . . .I need a Dake press😁
Hello PW! LOL The Dake is always a crowd pleaser! =D Such a great tool! Thanks very much!!!!!!!!
More great videos, please!!!!
Hello Mark! Short one tomorrow (can't call it great but something to watch!). Lol. Thanks very much!!!
good resto, i've never seen one of those..thanks for the info.
Hi Bob! Keep an eye out for one! They are just beautiful!!!! Thanks!!!!!!
Wow, amazing drivers..excellent bending procedure..Nice job...
Hello Blackie!!! I wish you could see how nice these feel in the hand!!!! Just amazing! Thanks so much!!!!
I bet...it's a shame that modern screws very rarely use straight bits..Phillips, torque, square, etc...very efficient modern day..thank God...technology.. amazing only a very short time of history...I really Love it...
nteresting screwdriver it cleaned up really nice.
Hello Tommy! These are so nice! The quality is amazing! Thanks so much!!!!!
Man, I would love to have the larger version of that, but with a 3/8 socket connection.
Hello Francis! Yes! Europe had some wonderful tools too... All of our best toolmakers came from Europe! Thanks!!!!!!!
LOL,
But who cares, I enjoyed the video as much as owning a pair.
Semper Fi!
Scout crafter just off hand I would say that you really really really really like this screwdriver. Me too!
Hello Bill! LOL! I try not to get excited over a restoration but sometimes I can't hide my enthusiasm! Now you know why I am never good at bargaining! Imagine this- "Wow this is the best tool ever I got to have it! -How much!?" LOL Thanks very much!
Very Nice
Hello Todtiger! Thanks very much!!!!!
beauty
@@ScoutCrafter Understood, thank you again and can not wait for the next restoration.
Do a video of your fully restored tool collection
Hello Ted! Did you see the 6k subscriber video?!? That took a lot of room! Lol. At three a week by next year I will be swamped! 😃👍. Thanks so much!!!!
has usally great job
Hello Timothy! Thanks so much!!! 😃👍
