Talk About RTS Memories. The "RTS" Was The "Official" Transit Bus Of The MTA From 1981-2018.They Were The "Honda Accord" Of Buses, And Damn I Missed Those New York Bus Brakes, Even When Brand New, They've Never Sound Sweeter. 10+++++ Thank You For The "Original" Memories.
GAWD DAMMIT!!!!! I don't understand of how can people still living in the Big Apple without those LEGENDS (RTS). Miss those MCI CLASSICS AND ORION 5s. But RTSs were the KINGS. LOVE LIVE RTS !!! ❤️.
Hearing all of these various Detroit Diesel engines & screeching brakes just brings back so many memories, granted I was only 2 years old at the time but man…these were the days man!!!
I really miss seeing the RTS and the Flexible busses. I do like the Gillig busses as they are locally near my home in Saratoga, Ca about 45 miles east in Livermore, Ca and they create so many jobs for so many people. But I really miss the older busses from RTS. When I came to the US from Japan, (my native country), I used to always ride the bus in the 1980s and we had both buses the RTS and the Grumman/Flexible. They both were my favorite. Today we only have Gillig (American Company) and New Flyer (A Canadian Company). Orion was never purchased as the county of Santa Clara, didn't like their buses. These days I drive a lot as my job is working for Penske and I drive large trucks daily.
Back when riding transit in NYC was fun. Now its mid and dull and boring and everyone's in a bad mood. I'd rlly like to go back to the 90s and early 00s to ride these....
I'll never forget being on that bus and the driver was definitely letting us know the bus ain't no slouch that bus and the hot bus will forever be my favorites

I remember riding these RTS on the Q32 from Penn Station up to 52nd street and Roosevelt Avenue by the 7 train in Woodside. Also remember them on the Q29 going to high school by Queens Center Mall.
If the those Grumman Flixibles would not have had so many problems with their cracked A frame chassis in the early 80s, they probably would have been the kings of the NY MTA fleet, but those RTSs seemed to have held up real well, great video.
@@kemperlewis7139 it's funny because the side of me agrees with that meanwhile another side of me thinks that they probably would have had both just like LA
Sweet I wish recordings were done like this in Newark or port authority bus terminal seeing the old school NJ Transit buses like the Flxibles and MCI 9s
Along with the old buses look at all when the 1990s Crown victoria was the KING car of the streets of our once stylish city. Town cars everywhere as limos and what not. It was great back then.
They were introduced in 1980. It was so unreal to ride in new buses after la AMA was using red or blue Flxibles and white GM Fishbowls. Those RTS's had no sliding windows, only flush glass (check out the bus at 10:47) Their AC was ice cold and it only cost 50 cents to ride in them. They were exactly like these NYC transit buses, white with the blue stripe, but had the AMA diamond below the drivers window. Wow those memories.
@@FitzArias In October 1980 AMA place th 1st order of 35ft units, and finish in February 1981 when RTS 04 introduced. You are right, no sliding windows on RT, the 1st unit featuring sliding windows was 1991 Flxible Metro 35ft. used on Metrobus, later 1995 the sliding windows are available in whole fleet, but in 2010 and now return to a complete sealed windows
I really miss those buses they were big and roomy inside compared to the plastic feel cramped buses they have now. Does anyone remember these NYCTA RTS buses having an all white plastic panel interior before it was changed to the dark grey color. We actually still had streets before bike, and pedestrian lanes started destroying the street space we had. Looking all those missed and loved buses you also see cars, which were a joy to have instead of now pointless SUV everywhere. I miss those old fun NYC.

It’s a video game called “Bus Simulator” I play on my PS4 Pro, they all type bus models and company built brands, I wish these classic RTS Novabus can put them on the video game I’ll drive them anyway and put them on some of my routes and my fleet for legendary and OG buses are they truly are!
I remember comi g down I 78 east one night & pulled up on one of these bad ass buses owned by n.j transit coming from phili & even at 80 m.p.h couldnt pass it . I never knew those buses could haul ass like that . Last of the good looking transit buses .
Definitely! And the seat closest to the window in those 2 seaters in the back has an annoying ledge that makes it uncomfortable to sit in. Feels like it takes up more useable seat room on purpose. Which is annoying.
Look how fast those buses were going…in the middle of the day. Before all the bus lanes and bike lanes, and citibike stations, all designed to reduce traffic and make it “faster”
DAMN man those RTS Buses take me back to my childhood, those buses were literally the Barbarians of NYC Transit, why did Transit have to do away with those? they should've kept those i mean yes i know they were old but i mean come on those Buses were the RTS Kings and they always will be 😎👊
The very first RTS buses had no sliding windows and looked even better than this model. Front dash was all blue, until later models that were painted black.

How would they justify congestion pricing if they didn’t find ways to cause it in the first place?
That's the 1st thing I noticed when I watched it for the first time
Was just about to comment on that. Things used to move a lot quicker back then!
