Nice hunt, that cackling crosser was great! Nila is coming along wonderfully, but it might be time to start doing some solo hunts with her. She's learned a lot from her mentor, but Sage will always be the alpha dog in the pack and Nila needs to have the freedom to learn some of the ropes on her own, particularly when it comes to retrieving. The competition between her and Sage for a downed bird is becoming obvious & she won't become a solid retriever until she doesn't have the competition with Sage taking the bird away from her. Just some helpful hints from an old bird hunter dog man. Have a Merry Christmas & keep the hunts coming:)
@@paulehlers2225 Thanks, Paul. I agree the competition for retrieves is an issue and I do appreciate the advice. At the same time, I don’t think I’m able to hunt without Sage.
Nila is coming along nicely, hunted with my friend Mick that got a new lab, Finn, Rex is 9 and a good role model for Finn like Sage to Nila, it’s always fun to see the light switch start to come on! Merry Christmas to you and yours Lucas!
Whatching the "Light Bulb" come on for a puppy is so kool! I am in a similar situation 6 year okd yellow Lab female 11 month old yellow Lab puppy. BTW your videos ROCK! True hunting wild birds! Keep up the GREAT content!
You have one great bird dog and another that will soon be great!! My pups don't get the reps that yours do. It took my Lexi 4 years before I would call her a bird dog. She's got it now!!! Kinda like the difference between a guy who works construction and a carpenter.
@@richardkrause2356 I’m optimistic for Nila’s potential. We just got home from a hunt where the battery died right by the truck and Nila had a great find on a cripple, lol. I’m beyond blessed to have all the pheasants I need within 30 miles of my house to get Nila the experience she needs. It’s tough to recreate the situations needed for a dog to learn how to find wild pheasants.
Thanks for sharing - im not a bird dog fella as i hunt grouse with the dog i own at the time - what breed are these 2 good hunters - thanks and take care
It's great to see when the lights start to come one in a young dog. Nila will do great.
@@in.hindsight it is neat to see her turn the corner and apply herself out there. Thanks!
Great hunt!! Love seeing a puppy start to figure it out!!

@@troycline2694 it is a pleasure to see a pup figure it out. I truly appreciate the kind words.
So when does Nila get her chance to do it alone? Great video and I love dogs so that goes without saying 😁
I don’t know when I’ll take Nila out alone. I don’t know if I could leave Sage on the bench. 😊
