Kawasaki KZ650 CSR - carburetor removal

  • This road bike from 1981 ran when I picked it up, just not very good. Seems like anything with a small engine that sits for a while will need some carburetor work. I break this process up into several videos because there are 4 carbs, and it is quite a process.
    I mention removing a bolt on the air cleaner box, but it didn't seem to help much with the removal. As with all old parts, be patient and use plenty of penetrating fluid on things that seem resistant to moving.

    Went to start my 78 DR after a few months in the shed and gas started pumping through the crankcase breather. I'll be using this video for guidance to get the carbs off. Thanks!

    Hello, to get the airbox rubbers on and off, I use a heat gun on the inside of the airbox to soften the rubbers, squeeze boots into air box, replacing boots is reverse.

    I have a 82 kz 650 just rebuilt the carbs. It was gumed up wouldn't idle. Now it will idle but it want take gas. It back fires alot. An the squirters aren't squirting gas. Just put a new accelator pump on it. Do you think it's a vacuum leak ? I just got the bike trying to get it going. It's in great shape someone took good care of it.

    The real question is, how were you listening to Chris Stapleton in 1987?

    Is there only one fuel line that feeds all the carbs? Just picked up a 1980 kz 550, there is one fuel line on the carb, then one thicker one not connected to anything, then on carb #4 a valve that looks like a fuel line would go on it

      just helping out here. I have a KZ650 and there is only ONE fuel line that feeds all 4 carbs. That fuel line is in between carbs 2 and 3. the line between 1 and 2 connects to nothing, just run it how you run the overflow tubes

    Do you have to remove intake boot screws to wiggle the carb out?

    • @muddyfences5559
      @muddyfences5559  6 років тому

      Oscar Calles My intake boots are held by spring clamps. If you move the clamp out of the way, you may be able to push the boot off the carbs (7:30). I pushed the boots out through the intake box. It really depends on how much room you need to pull the carbs off of the engine.

      He didn't mean the filter box side I'm thinking cuz I'm having the same problem video had skipped ahead cuz it probably took him a minute too....

      My intake screws are Philips and I wouldn't be able to loosen even if had to LOL.. you're too close to the carburetor... I'm going to shoot a little bit of WD-40 on mine some silicone anyways and spray and see if it'll loosen them up cuz it looks like to me again at the prime out I don't want to tear the damn carburetor up with screwdriver....idk

      I really don't know. Most shop rates are 80 or more an hour. With parts you could be looking at 300 or more.

      Done right? With the carbs restored, all new parts in, and proper o rings? $700 easy.
