Thanks bro! You saved my bacon! I had screwed up my printer trying to do it and didn't know if it would ever run again. Like you, I need a video. Liked, subbed, be glad to buy you a coffee. One thing though-- I don't get the Marlin splash image.
One thing to note that kept me in constant failure for hours is , the SD CARD Needed to be formatted in in FAT32 with 4K clusters . I originally was using an old 128mb SD card formatted fat 32 but there is obviously no 4k cluster option . Basically no firmware would load on the LCD or board unless its formatted with the 4k option, and there is nothing to warn you it didn't load either.
@@509drone2 that was my thought too, apparently for this you can go back to far on the SD Timeline, and the LCD went to orange as shown using the 128MB card, however nothing on it changed and there was no error

The main reasons to upgrade mainly quality of life upgrades in my opinion. Also they have improved the LCD menu screens to be more clear, and helpful. It is also easy to use the bltouch with this firmware. I have a full video guide of how to set it up, with the bltouch on my channel as well.
I tried to do this but when I went to configure my firmware in vs code, the white check mark on the blue bar wasn’t there, does anyone know how to fix this?

I have the same exact files you have on your video except the file that you pick my file does not have bin. at the end. But all the file names and numbers that follow are exactly the same. I did not copy and paste to my fat 32 formatted caed yet because I am not sure its right. Also I have the 4.2.2.7 board. Should I copy that same file without the bin. onto my sd card? Hope you can help thank you
The name of the file doesn't matter. If you followed the steps correctly, you should be good to go. You want to copy the entire file including the .bin part. If you want to jump in discord I can confirm it's right.
My ender v2 can resume printing after power outage but this firmware doesn’t. Also do u know how to maintain the hotend and bed temperature after pausing in print?
Hello Desmond, I'm pretty sure this firmware will resume printing after a power outage. I will look into it, and double check though. As for maintaining the hot end & bed temp after pausing the print. I'm pretty sure you can just click tune, and then set the temps from there while you are paused.
the creality resume printing is disabled in UFW2 unless you enable it in, i suggest keeping it disabled, it destroys your sd card because it does a write every layer
From my understanding the orginal firmware had bugs that would cause issues. I never ran into any of these issues, but the other benefits of upgrading the firmware are things like the ability to add auto bed leveling, and just a better layout within your printer lcd screen. Things are better defined, and broken down. But really if you're not having any issues, and you don't plan to change/add anything then you really don't need to upgrade it.
@@somatic.cinema yea I feel the same way. I'm making a video about how to install the bltouch now, and I've had a lot of issues. If your printer is printing good, and you're not having any issues leveling your bed, I would just leave it be.
Yea i was also confused, i had multiple notifications that a fixed BL Touch version is available here github.com/mriscoc/Marlin_Ender3v2/releases/tag/2.0.7.3-bugfix-bltouch I think the issue was that for some people the BL touch made their entire printer try to suicide by smashing into the building plate.
I have not seen the firmware update on the touch screen before. Is this necessary to upgrade to any firmware or is it specific to this one? I am trying to install the CR Touch and put the SD card in the forward facing SD card slot. Didn't do anything with the screen.
Im not sure what the CR touch is, but if you are using the stock LCD Screen on your Ender 3 v2, and you want to use the Unified 2 Firmware from TH3D you will need to update the firmware on the LCD screen like I have shown in this video.

Yes, you can make your printer pause during a print, and you can switch out the filament, and then resume the print. This should be an option in multiple different firmware setups. But this firmware does offer that option.

@@509drone2 Thanks for your reply, I solved it, i didn't realise that the Allocation unit size when formatting the sd card has to be 4096 bytes and it was set to 8192 bytes. Now it all works fine with the new firmware. It's amazing how this printer's quality is MUCH better than the one I bought for $3500 7 years ago. It was a Makerbot 5th gen and it still works fine, i never had the problems many others had. But the quality with this $250 printer is so much better, less stringing, less waving, smoother surfaces. And a lot quieter!
i just update dated my firmware today. followed you steps. i have the same board as you do. the only thing mine didnt do is show the th3d and marlin logo when booting was done. seems to have the firmware cause i checked out the info and it show th3d firmware.... any pointer and help...... thank you... just doesnt seems like yours. what ur firmware info look llike

I opened the configuration.h file. I removed the two slashes in front of "#define ENDER3_V2_V422_BOARD //Ender 3 V2 with V4.2.2 Board". The problem is there is no check mark at the bottom of my screen so i can't compile the firmware. Any suggestions?

Having same issue. Ended up just updating to 1.2.1 via ender website because of platformio issue. Did some looking into it and its an issue that appears every updates on the platform.
OK followed you and installed the BLTouch part from the Visual studio code. but my printer will still not go auto home and it will not level. just sits there.
I kept getting errors on the VS code while trying to add the BL Touch. I finally went back to Creality and added their firmware back. It worked for a minute or two and then stopped.
Did you watch my recent video by chance? I talked about the same issues I had with my bltouch, and a solution on how to fix them. If you have the option, it might be worth returning the bltouch, and just getting an ezabl from th3d. Or do the shielding method I did to get my bltouch to work. I plan on posting a video about it soon, so look out for that if you're still having issues. Also, most of us who are using the bltouch with the ender 3 v2 and using the smith3d firmware. It seems to work better with it for some reason. Jump into discord if you want to chat about it more.
I didn’t get a logo pop up when I ran the bin in the printer. I went to info and it showed th3d 4.2.2 version and I could see the differences. Just didn’t get a cool Marlin
Why dontvthey just post the bin file and DWIN files for. Various options? Sure would simpler. There are a lot of places to make mistakes and many steps.
The last step on the website state "Make sure to reset your EEPROM on your printer after flashing any firmware. " is this not needed on the e3v2? don't see a option in the menus
Also found it doesn't like certain SD cards, loaded firmware on the lcd fine but when i formatted and tried to update the board it booted way to fast, changed to a different sd card and it started updating
Yes, you need to do that. I think I forgot to say that in the video. After you are all done, and you have installed your new firmware, go to control and hit restore settings. This is "resetting your EEPROM"

@@509drone2 got it, for the screen to flash properly the sd card has to have an allocating size of maximum 4090 i just reflashed the screen and it works properly with the logo and everything! thank you very much bro
You could use the marlin firmware if you want. The TH3D firmware is just an edited version of marlin to allow very easy changes to the firmware. As you can see in the video, its laid out very well. Its all free, and can be used on any OS.
I would think that something didnt work correctly. I would suggest double checking your steps, and making sure you didnt miss anything. Let me know if you have anymore issues.
It’s much easier to just unplug the ribbon cable, take the back off, install SD card, reinsert ribbon cable, power up following the video instructions.
Yes, it's 100% the same. The only difference is when you are building the firmware you uncomment the ender 3 line for whatever board you have. So you would want line 21 or 22.
I tried compiling and got the same error you did, but I never got it to succeed. You didn't do anything between the failed compile and the successful build?
@@rickyhackett6703 it can during production. I.e. it was produced with imperfections. So you know this was easy test with a ruler or any straight edge and a sheet of paper.

When you enter custom e steps or anything else saved to eeprom, you need to reset eeprom whenever you upload new firmware.

It's not wise to disconnect energized parts. The surge can cause hidden problems in the microprocessors, so turn it off first.

Firmware noob here...does this have the ability to perform filament changes during a print? For color changes. I'm using Prusa Slicer.
Yes, you can make your printer pause during a print, and you can switch out the filament, and then resume the print. This should be an option in multiple different firmware setups. But this firmware does offer that option.
Is the quality of prints is increased after the update ?
I don't really think the firmware will increase print quality. It's more QOL (quality of life) improvements.

The LCD firmware didn't flash then. Make sure to use a SD card formatted with a 4096 allocation unit size.

is the M0 (stop command) bug fixed and does M600(filament change) work in the latest version? and in other case how do you enable it if possible?

From what I understand, if the logo does not appear, that means the firmware did not take. I would try and repeat the process.

But why would you want/need to do this? Why not Marlin firmware? Why TH3D? Is M$ visual studio required for us linux users?

Sadly had to return mine. Worst product I ever purchased. It arrived with a clogged nozzle, warped bed, and the latest firmware was super buggy.

@@rickyhackett6703 it can during production. I.e. it was produced with imperfections. So you know this was easy test with a ruler or any straight edge and a sheet of paper.
