Reading law in the army

- Join me on an incredible journey from military barracks to law school, where I'll share the story of how I became fascinated with the law during my time as a soldier. In this video, I'll recount the challenges, the dedication, and the unwavering support of my spouse, Mala, that made it all possible.
During my army training at Asahan, an injury led to my confinement in a facility devoid of civilian amenities. With no telephones, books, shops, or television, I turned to Glanville Williams' 'Learning the Law' to quench my thirst for legal knowledge.
Upon my return to base, I decided to pursue my passion by enrolling in the London External examinations. The year was 1986, and formal classes were out of the question due to their unavailability and high fees. Instead, I relied on expensive textbooks and the London University's Syllabus in a slender blue volume.
This journey involved a structured five-year program, beginning with the Intermediate Examinations, which I attempted after two years of self-study. The anxious wait for results and discovering that senior officers had also taken the exams added to the suspense.
My journey took a turn when I received a notification from the Education Department to collect my LLB Intermediate Results. Accompanied by my ever-supportive Mala, I embarked on this life-changing trip to Jalan Duta.
The moment of truth arrived at the Education Department's reception, where slender envelopes held the fate of many. With bated breath, I was informed that a slender envelope meant failure, while a large one indicated success. After moments of uncertainty, a large envelope with my name arrived, sealing my destiny.
With the Intermediate phase cleared, the path to Parts I and II of the London External Examinations became apparent. However, attending regular classes was essential, and I took an unconventional step.
We took a leap of faith, leaving the armed forces and facing legal obstacles to execute my intent to pursue further studies. We sold our possessions but still struggled to cover the first term fees. We embarked on this journey as a young family with a three-year-old daughter, relying on hope, determination, and the support of Mala.
Every day presented new challenges, but we pressed on. It took three grueling years to complete the law degree, an experience that transcended financial constraints and difficulties.
As I look back, I marvel at the journey we undertook and the resolve that carried us through. This story is a testament to the belief that when you set your sights on something significant, you can overcome any obstacle and emerge victorious.
Join me in this video to be inspired by a story of determination, resilience, and the pursuit of one's dreams. If you've ever considered pursuing your passion, this story will show you that with unwavering determination, you can achieve the impossible. Don't be afraid to chase your dreams, for you cannot fail when you set your mind to it.

Inspiring. GK's story and struggle to be where he is today is a reminder of what we all had achieved up to this point of life. I personally had gone through the same ordeal (except my journey was associated with fish and diesel smell) delayed gratification, learning fast, and looking outside the box with almost two hands tied tight behind one's back. It is quite remarkable how it turns out. It feels as if the universe aligned with your manifestation as you wish by the beach every night. Go get yours!
Dear Remy: your words are inspiring. As Gopal Sri Ram’s former pupil you are a guiding light to us all!

Thank you, Sir, for sharing your personal journey to become a lawyer. My late father was a butcher from Penang and I worked part-time to fund my external education from University of London. My career in England ended in 2018. My immigration legal firm was wound up due to multifaceted challenges with family, legal and health matters in Penang. The ordeal and trauma of those incidents are a living nightmare. The pain that I underwent to even step into the legal profession in the UK cannot be described by words. I am now a spiritual seeker and no more a lawyer. Thanaletchmy Gengadaran @ Sridhar
Dear Madam Thanaletchmy. Your story was touching. Whatever you do, go for it!
