Toyota isn’t stupid. They’re aware that you can generate about the same power numbers from a 4 banger turbo. There are 2 very simple answers as to why they didn’t do that though. One being longevity; 4 bangers don’t last as long as 6 cylinders, much like V8’s “go on forever”. Toyota’s Lexus brand was build on quality and longevity. The second reason is 4 bangers vibrate. They idle harder and sometimes can be louder. Toyota want their Lexus brand to be smooth, yet still be able to move. So they went with a small displacement (2.5 which is tiny) but went with a 6 cylinders. Also, in the early/mid 2000s, turbo cars still had bad news attached to them. Turbos needed sooner services, prone to just going out and also made more noise than they did in today’s age. Toyota knew their market, and knew their long time customers would stray away from the idea of owning a turbo.
Juljasmah nope, 4 cylinders tend to vibrate in nature and will wear out the engine mounts way faster. They are not as balanced as a V6 or V8 are. Don’t listen to this guy, don’t ever buy an older car with a 4 banger, you’ll regret it.
Thivakar saravanamuthu I know I was reading his comment and was thinking from experience Infiniti is all looks and not good quality or longevity they don’t have a lot of service areas I live in Kentucky and the closest one is in Nashville Tennessee and they just don’t last long their leather sucks it rips and tears easily and wrinkles even the latest models I like the looks of them and the interiors but they just don’t hold up especially the older ones compared to the older second gen Lexus IS lineup

I would say this is one of the legend model of Lexus series. but keep in mind that there is a completely new IS 2014 coming up soon.
Kevin, from the moment he talked about the claustrophobic condition and his 5'7" frame, I realized that he has (maybe now he has) no idea that he can lower the seat and adjust it all way round. Also, this horsepower hound doesn't know how to utilize this car to drive speedy, especially in Sport mode with ECT Power on. I had to go to Virginia last weekend on business and on my way back, everybody was going around 80 mph on the I95 and from time to time, I downshifted into 5th and zooming to 100 mph barely reaching 4,000 RPM's before shifting back to 6th. That is exactly why I like the car, is like been in an airplane cockpit, cacooned in. I can't stand the new cars with huge interiors.
3:40 -> because IS means Individual Sport
Shouldve reviewed a 6spd manual.
I really like these a LOT. I almost bought an 06 wiht 92K miles, but they wouldnt come down enough on the price.
I would love to see a Lexus ISF review by you in the near future
I'm really thinking about trading my TL for one of these. Lexus seems to offer more luxury amenities than Acura does.
Jedi Luke 22 The TL is roomier that IS. So you would be sacrificing space if you switch. The only big upgrade you will be getting is extra luxury features.
found this car locally for 14k but they want 3k down and $400 a month. dunno if I should still go for it or search around
LoveOlivie miles? Did you end up getting it? lol
Me too lol I just liked the interior and how it handled
very good review if not the best, thanks!
Nice review!!
saving to buy this car!
Im 6’5 and Im still plan in getting it 😂
only problem is he 350 was recently begun to come equipped with AWD, so you dont find any affordable ones to buy yet.
Trying to make up my mind between this Lexus or Acura TL 2008.
Tls have bad Transmissions
The Transmissions are kinda a weak link in the TL. I'd go with the IS.
I wonder how many times you ran that stop sign at the start of the test drive.
Love this car... beautiful 😀
That ticking was really loud when you were looking at the engine while it was running. Was something wrong with it?
Swermie that’s because is a direct injection engine
Wow so looking forward to get this
Does anyone know if either of the following are standard on the 2nd gen IS250:
Ventilated seats
Bluetooth
If not standard are they common?
no not standard.. comes with Premium Package..
2:45 your head hit the roof because he didn’t duck.
😂 exactly like no brainer
Technically there's 3 engines. The isf V8 too. Which is the one I'd buy. For some reason I've always wanted the IS-F over the M3 or C63.
2:59 I saw Shaq drive a smart car in new york what are you talking about
thanks for mentioning if its good on long haul or not.
@3:09. There is a Toyota version of this car. I'ts the Toyota MarkX. IS platform is based on MarkX.
You can be some, depending on where you look, carefully used and well maintained for anywhere from $24k to $32k, that's with leather seats and navigation, most of the time. Check AutoTrader and Cars, they'll have plenty of IS250's and IS350's.
Just purchased a 2006 matador red is350 with only 25,420 miles
You should have nevered turned the radio off when starships was on , lol
Looking to buy a car next year and this one is on my list of about 8 or 9 im looking into....if i do get this one i will take off the stock rims and put in some classic 3 piece BBS rims with super low profile tires...then this car would really look awesome and mean...also depends on the color....
I went to test drive one of these and my daughter said “ daddy there’s no space back here 🤦🏾♂️. Ugh so I can’t even get one
Well ACTUALLY, cashmere is a particular type of wool that has a very soft texture. So you and Lexus are incorrect.
I was talking about back in 2008, which I don't believe the IS-F was available in that time... but I could be wrong
True the S4 is awesome too. Tho we might be getting an Acura TL SH-AWD to replace our old 07 TL.
i wish you could drive the 6speed version.
When you turned on the radio a nicki played😩
I’m 6’11 and drive while sitting in the backseat
lol
Is this car equipped with the Mark Levinson sound system and how many speakers are there ? Thank you !
And is there an option to choose to get the Mark Levinson sound system ?
+Songty Oeung Yes the sports luxury (top of the range) has the 14 speaker Mark levinson sound system
Base has 13 speakers. ML has 14 with 400 watts of power while base has half of that power either way both sound really good
Awesome car.Definitely better than the underpowered acura ilx.
Great car good family car. Thumbs up.
