Thank you for making this video! I’m trying to start up Cardfight Vanguard at my local gaming store, and It’s been hard trying to figure out how to explain things to others. So, this series is gonna be so incredibly useful to help introduce others to the game itself. Especially excited to watch the next video.
I like how easy VG is to get into in this V-era. Other than trial decks having all the staples, other non-td clans also have budget options and are relatively easy to build. I think you should consider making a video discussing more budget options somewhere down the line. Great vid btw. Hope to see more :)

Buying 3 of each structre deck is probably the best thing a beginner/ a budget player can do because it's the cheapest way to have a full deck with all the important cards of the deck at 3. Cuz you only get 1 of each card that the deck must use 3 of to be in its full potential

Oracle think tank: Misaki is best bae. Aqua force:one defensive trigger can mess up their entire plan. Royal paladin: the protagonist deck so obviously that clan will get a lot of support. Shadow paladin: an edgy version of royal paladin that does the opposite and retires Link joker: DELETE!! Great nature: where is my lord and saviour duck bill? Genesis: looks like OTT. Kagero: Dragonic overlord is a clan, never heard of Kagero. Pale moon: the new VR in the vilest deletors doesn’t work with their mechanics. Dark irregulars:Enigmatic assassin got restricted! Sorry if I offended any of you guys
As fun as comic descriptions would've been, they would've been awful for new players, since they're not "in" on the various jokes. They'd just sit there wondering what the fucking clan actually does :P
When I started Vanguard, I chose Standard Dimension Police. A clan that didn’t have a trial deck. That’s why it almost took me a year to complete the deck
The game changed so much from when I played in high school with my friends. It made it harder for us to get back into before they brought in this standard style play. So I finally get to whip out my mega colony deck again and play with my friends!!!!!
One of the things I would just leave here as a piece of advice, is to try the clans out on something like Tabletop Simulator (TTS) before you buy anything. While TTS is $20 (on sale A LOT for $10) it has many other uses that people can enjoy. But focusing on Vanguard, DifferentFight assists with one of the subscriptions for it, thats free on steam to setup, and will give you access to most the clans and all cards in said clans for standard to test out. Most will be in english, while some are still in Japanese with English translations. I used this way to test out before I really got into standard, for friends of mine tried to get me into what is now known as Premium last year, and Standard is what got me into the game, and am now looking into Premium. So look it up, there are a million videos explaining how to set it up, and then watch Solemn's next video on Playing the game!
@8:00 About the only clan that can get past this, would be Bermuda Triangle. But then again, its also kind of a double edge sword in that collecting these cards on a budget can be just as difficult, since not everyone would be buying the box as it has only 1 clan in it.
I play Yugioh, but the artwork blows me away on Vanguard. Picked up some Japanese boxes today at the local card shop, (I am primarily a collector), but the SP and RRR rarities blow me away! Started buying singles on eBay instead of Yugioh.
When I began, I just bought a gold paladin V Series deck following a deck list and it worked out perfectly fine, later adding the new support wave from miyaji academy box loving that raven haired ezel I'm also excited for the Link Joker 'Deletors' in V Trial Deck 08 and also the Link Joker 'Messiah' and the classic link joker stuff from before V-Series not messiah or deletor also want to see that majesty lord blaster. I picked up this game easily and I understand a lot and how and why the deck works
I’m subbed to your solemn yugioh and saw your video about how vanguard has no real market sort to speak and the positives and negatives of investing in it. To be honest, the artwork caught my attention and brought me here. Gonna give it a shot and see if it’s for me.

When I first played it was with the Kagero trial deck 2 when the game came out. I borrowed it of a mate, and always won. I then got my own deck that was dark irregulars and Pale Moon, but I shifted more to the DI. I started building more decks, mainly Aqua Force and Royal Paladin. By the end of the G era I was playing GN online with the other decks.
Long time yugioh player here and I wanted to pick this up as a secondary card game since the meta over there is stale and frustrating atm. Link Joker is really catching my eye for sure.
You could get trial decks at any local stores. Mostly all standard trial decks is almost complete decks, obviously you’re not gonna play 1 drop PG’s, but it’s a start. Standard is mostly way easier to get into, but there are a lot of expensive cards for respective clan. Premium has gone down a lot since the introduction of standard. So it’s a lot easier to get into the game.
Premium has gone down in certain clans. I’ve done a lot of prices dropped from the insane amount they were. Zeroth dragons are like 50-70 and when then first came out, they were 200 dollar cards.
Don't forget if you're not keen to even buy a deck for that price amount which is already very budget friendly, u can try find locals or somewhere for a non foil trial deck, it is very cheap.
Thanks for the video! My partner is insanely into vanguard (and really good too-has done tournaments and such before!) and while I’ve already gotten a “rundown” (lecture, honestly lol) over the different clans and the lore and whatnot, it’s still a lot of soak in. Plus, I know NOTHING about the gameplay, so your channel is amazing for helping me grasp concepts even without a deck in my hand right now, and prep for the possibility of a date night cardfight someday in the future once I know what I’m doing! 😂
just one more suggestion , when you go over decks of specific clans , like the full build decks , it would be great if you mention a approx price also like not detailed for each card just the entire deck price
Just Suggestion, Introduce First the terms. Counter Blast/Soul/Soul Blast/ Etc. They will help a lot. Cuz i believe understanding the terms helps you a lot on learning the whole game. Like what you said. this is supposed to be for new players that don't have an idea at all.
Vanguard for me is a LOT easier for me to understand and play. I have known Vanguard ever since the first OG episode way back years ago now. I actually learned to play by only watching the show. :3. But I had to catch up to G's new stride rules.
You forgot to mention but idk if it important anyways so in magic you only need 1 deck something 1 deck contain maybe 2-3 copy of every magic cards in one deck to help new player start. And i really like a zombies deck since yugioh zombies deck and how they can be brought back from the dead, zombies deck been my favorite since the first yugioh ever came out!
When is the next video? My friend found his deck, but since I’ve been playing for so long he kinda is at a disadvantage trying to learn how to play his deck against me and general gameplay. So I’d think the next video would most likely help him out alot

I bought two boxes (champions of the Asia circuit) and got playable Granblue and Dimension Police decks out of it. They aren't great or anything but fun to play against each other or V Trial Decks. The only thing they're missing is one Sentinel each.
yugioh structure decks are getting better not that they're like vanguard where you only need 1 now but everything in it is tier 1 or 0 material so budget players can buy 3 of those and have meta deck love how ash blossom got reprinted
I mean... if you want a peak competitive salamangreat deck, you still need 3 Phantazmay at 80$ each and 2-3 impermenance going for 90$ each :P I do like that the overall card quality in them is going up, but if we're talking about getting new players into the game, VG TDs are infinitely more suited than YGO ones.
Of course, I can just play effect vieler over impermanence (which I did) and I play true king agamizud since it came with the structure deck and it works out fine
my 1st deck was a kagero deck now i dont know what to build...kager? sp? gp? rp? neo nectar? link joker? tachikaze? gran blue? or wait for the new clan? narukami? murakumo? nubatama?
Always conflicted by my current favorite deck, Dark Irregulars. I love using tactics that use the soul for power ups, and the cards rarely let me down. But I don't like the lore or asthetics. I'd honestly prefer something like royal paladin in that regard, but clans that rely on all full rearguard circles really suffer in the vanguard zero format. Maybe I'll give Genesis a whirl.
when I was a kid I wanted to buy Vanguard because all my friends had it so I bought the fateful star messiah deck without any knowledge whatso ever about vanguard I'm hoping to learn this game so that I can challenge my friend who kept beating me 5 years ago
I see loooaaaaads of people asking the same question on reddit and getting the same (or sometimes even inconsistent) answers. I figured it'd be handy to have a solid well-produced series that runs people through it all. :) And yes, it'll be a series
I’m moving here from magic because I didn’t have the time or money to play anymore, I made the mistake of buying a box for my first deck, I shoulda just bought a trial deck and went from there.
I was thinking about bringing this up before but I never had the best opportunity but since new players need to buy singles. Maybe you should point out some reliable sources especially for those not in the US where the combination of low stock and inflated prices makes buying cards much more expensive than it really should be. Though I understand if you can't/won't since I'm sure sites such as HeliosCards won't exactly be happy if you pointed out other online stores. As, even if it's reliable it still has a huge gap of products it has yet to fill.
If we want lower prices in the EU, we need to complain to Bushi and/or their distributors. The primary reason EU shops and US shops sell for different prices is because cases are like 20-35% more expensive here than in the US. Therefore, single shops need to follow or they'll simply go broke. Add our ridiculous taxation levels on top of that and it's simply impossible for EU shops to charge what US shops charge. Our stock is so low exactly because supply can never be high. How could our supply be high if there's barely any company willing to sell singles with these low margins? And if more shops entered the industry, they would compete on price, drive down price, drive most of the shops out of business (because again; case prices are too high so it's unsustainable) and we'd be back to a small amount of shops => low stock => high price. The only solution is for Bushi to sell the cases for less to distributors and set the msrp lower so that shops can buy the cases for cheaper, thus making it more attractive for shops to crack cases and thus creating more downward pressure on single prices without running small businesses into the ground. I personally get new singles from Helios (because as you said; they only carry cards from new sets) and I go to Ebay or tcgplayer for older cards. :) Cardmarket sadly has too little sellers, creating very bad prices for now.

As you said, stores aren't stocking it meaning that we have to buy everything online which is a huge downside since it's much more of an uphill battle when card games like yugioh and MTG are everywhere in the UK so it's so easy for people to go back into the habit of just spending their money there. (Which is obviously fine since you should support your local game stores) But usually the best I can do is spit boxes and do simple trial deck duels. I should also mention, my friend group is filled with previously vanguard players and they do show a lot of interest in standard as they played old premium and even got me back into the game so it's a shame that Bushiroad is practically sabotaging themselves here in europe.
Yeah I see what you mean. The reboot did seem to have caused quite some panic in certain shops (invalidating stock, etc..) which seems to show in the overall lack of support from some. I'm not sure if it's Bushi sabotaging though... It doesn't feel like a corporate smart move to make your game more expensive than it has to be. I'd say it's far more likely that it's because of certain ridiculous import taxes we have from Asia to here? (I'm not sure where our cases are printed) or something like that. EU's backwards laws ruining everything feels much more realistic than a corporation shooting themselves in the foot, but we can't really know that unless we get to speak to some high-up exec who tells us.

I wanted to get in this game, so I went to the only one of my local stores that sells Vanguard, unfortunately they don't sell Vanguard anymore, though they still had the old products they didn't sell back in the days stock in the inventory. I bought the "Debut of the Divas" trial deck and I'd like to know if this deck still works for learning the game and if it's possibly to build a new functional deck from this one.
0Δ0!!! You didn't mention about starter decks... I'm just super new at this game but i actually got my first deck at yr 2016... I think... Was only in it for the art. But now that i saw the anime, i wanna know how to play. (Even though i'll just end up playing by myself. Lol.) still i wanna try building a deck and hoping that maybe someday i'd find someone i can play with. But yeah, my deck is a Gold Paladin starter deck (the one that says "knight of the sun" in its box). Is this deck good or should i buy another to build a better deck?? What's the real difference between a Starter Deck and a Trial Deck anyway?? Been reading online and i see statements that say Starter decks are better than Trial decks...
would the G decks be a good start? a buddy of mine wants to do Pale moon, and there was a trial deck from a 2015 block, while me on the other wants to play Kagero or Nabutama and they seem to be trial decks from 2018, would it be better to get a deck from a 2015 deck along the Pale moon deck?
great vids as always SV! for newbies, unless you're into Bermuda...DO ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NOT BUY BOXES FOR DECKS! pls learn from someone who knows a guy who did this and quit the game 1 month after wasting his college money on boosters... the only exception to this rule is Bermuda Triangle which is ALWAYS supported once a year through their own booster set mixed with no other clan! anything besides Bermuda you're better off buying trial decks or premade decks on sale in your locals or Ebay or something
Hello Max how are you? well i myself am having a lot of nerves cause i have a cousin in the age of 16? 17? i don't know anyway when he was younger i tried to get him into Vanguard but it didn't go as i expected he's much into football and Tae Kwon Do meaning that buying him a deck like Orfist(which is a Brandt Gate deck) will be uselless now since he won't even touch it(well i still have my sister which is Genesis user and the only thing that i have to do is to build her a Stride Genesis deck) but at this rate i will not have the ppl i need to play with(nor building a team for locals and special events)

Vanguard for me is a LOT easier for me to understand and play. I have known Vanguard ever since the first OG episode way back years ago now. I actually learned to play by only watching the show. :3. But I had to catch up to G's new stride rules.
In old G Vanguard I would prefer Gold / Shadow. In V era, now I'm waiting for Altmile (Royal). I finally understand every mechanics until now
You forgot to mention but idk if it important anyways so in magic you only need 1 deck something 1 deck contain maybe 2-3 copy of every magic cards in one deck to help new player start. And i really like a zombies deck since yugioh zombies deck and how they can be brought back from the dead, zombies deck been my favorite since the first yugioh ever came out!

When is the next video? My friend found his deck, but since I’ve been playing for so long he kinda is at a disadvantage trying to learn how to play his deck against me and general gameplay. So I’d think the next video would most likely help him out alot

I bought two boxes (champions of the Asia circuit) and got playable Granblue and Dimension Police decks out of it. They aren't great or anything but fun to play against each other or V Trial Decks. The only thing they're missing is one Sentinel each.

yugioh structure decks are getting better not that they're like vanguard where you only need 1 now but everything in it is tier 1 or 0 material so budget players can buy 3 of those and have meta deck love how ash blossom got reprinted
I mean... if you want a peak competitive salamangreat deck, you still need 3 Phantazmay at 80$ each and 2-3 impermenance going for 90$ each :P
I do like that the overall card quality in them is going up, but if we're talking about getting new players into the game, VG TDs are infinitely more suited than YGO ones.
Of course, I can just play effect vieler over impermanence (which I did) and I play true king agamizud since it came with the structure deck and it works out fine
@@SolemnVanguard You don't need Phantazmay or Impermanence for Salamangreat lol. The deck is very budget friendly.
You don't "need" them, but most competitive Salam decks do seem to run Phantazm in main and imperm in either main or side.

Always conflicted by my current favorite deck, Dark Irregulars. I love using tactics that use the soul for power ups, and the cards rarely let me down. But I don't like the lore or asthetics. I'd honestly prefer something like royal paladin in that regard, but clans that rely on all full rearguard circles really suffer in the vanguard zero format. Maybe I'll give Genesis a whirl.
I will prob be using any type of kragoer clan like Kai used in the anime

I was thinking about bringing this up before but I never had the best opportunity but since new players need to buy singles. Maybe you should point out some reliable sources especially for those not in the US where the combination of low stock and inflated prices makes buying cards much more expensive than it really should be.
Though I understand if you can't/won't since I'm sure sites such as HeliosCards won't exactly be happy if you pointed out other online stores. As, even if it's reliable it still has a huge gap of products it has yet to fill.
If we want lower prices in the EU, we need to complain to Bushi and/or their distributors.
The primary reason EU shops and US shops sell for different prices is because cases are like 20-35% more expensive here than in the US.
Therefore, single shops need to follow or they'll simply go broke. Add our ridiculous taxation levels on top of that and it's simply impossible for EU shops to charge what US shops charge.
Our stock is so low exactly because supply can never be high. How could our supply be high if there's barely any company willing to sell singles with these low margins?
And if more shops entered the industry, they would compete on price, drive down price, drive most of the shops out of business (because again; case prices are too high so it's unsustainable) and we'd be back to a small amount of shops => low stock => high price.
The only solution is for Bushi to sell the cases for less to distributors and set the msrp lower so that shops can buy the cases for cheaper, thus making it more attractive for shops to crack cases and thus creating more downward pressure on single prices without running small businesses into the ground.
I personally get new singles from Helios (because as you said; they only carry cards from new sets) and I go to Ebay or tcgplayer for older cards. :)
Cardmarket sadly has too little sellers, creating very bad prices for now.
@@SolemnVanguard Thanks for the reply. Trying to get people into Vanguard in my local area has been tough. As you said, stores aren't stocking it meaning that we have to buy everything online which is a huge downside since it's much more of an uphill battle when card games like yugioh and MTG are everywhere in the UK so it's so easy for people to go back into the habit of just spending their money there. (Which is obviously fine since you should support your local game stores) But usually the best I can do is spit boxes and do simple trial deck duels.
I should also mention, my friend group is filled with previously vanguard players and they do show a lot of interest in standard as they played old premium and even got me back into the game so it's a shame that Bushiroad is practically sabotaging themselves here in europe.
Yeah I see what you mean. The reboot did seem to have caused quite some panic in certain shops (invalidating stock, etc..) which seems to show in the overall lack of support from some.
I'm not sure if it's Bushi sabotaging though... It doesn't feel like a corporate smart move to make your game more expensive than it has to be.
I'd say it's far more likely that it's because of certain ridiculous import taxes we have from Asia to here? (I'm not sure where our cases are printed) or something like that.
EU's backwards laws ruining everything feels much more realistic than a corporation shooting themselves in the foot, but we can't really know that unless we get to speak to some high-up exec who tells us.
@@SolemnVanguard True, I shouldn't point the blame solely on Bushi. Anyways, I'ma try my best to keep the dream alive for CFV players in Swindon. And hopefully manage to get a competent team for the regional in Cardiff. And if not I'm sure we'll have fun playing there regardless. :)

I wanted to get in this game, so I went to the only one of my local stores that sells Vanguard, unfortunately they don't sell Vanguard anymore, though they still had the old products they didn't sell back in the days stock in the inventory. I bought the "Debut of the Divas" trial deck and I'd like to know if this deck still works for learning the game and if it's possibly to build a new functional deck from this one.

But now that i saw the anime, i wanna know how to play. (Even though i'll just end up playing by myself. Lol.) still i wanna try building a deck and hoping that maybe someday i'd find someone i can play with. But yeah, my deck is a Gold Paladin starter deck (the one that says "knight of the sun" in its box). Is this deck good or should i buy another to build a better deck?? What's the real difference between a Starter Deck and a Trial Deck anyway?? Been reading online and i see statements that say Starter decks are better than Trial decks...

would the G decks be a good start? a buddy of mine wants to do Pale moon, and there was a trial deck from a 2015 block, while me on the other wants to play Kagero or Nabutama and they seem to be trial decks from 2018, would it be better to get a deck from a 2015 deck along the Pale moon deck?

for newbies, unless you're into Bermuda...DO ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NOT BUY BOXES FOR DECKS! pls learn from someone who knows a guy who did this and quit the game 1 month after wasting his college money on boosters...
the only exception to this rule is Bermuda Triangle which is ALWAYS supported once a year through their own booster set mixed with no other clan! anything besides Bermuda you're better off buying trial decks or premade decks on sale in your locals or Ebay or something
Hello Max how are you? well i myself am having a lot of nerves cause i have a cousin in the age of 16? 17? i don't know anyway when he was younger i tried to get him into Vanguard but it didn't go as i expected he's much into football and Tae Kwon Do meaning that buying him a deck like Orfist(which is a Brandt Gate deck) will be uselless now since he won't even touch it(well i still have my sister which is Genesis user and the only thing that i have to do is to build her a Stride Genesis deck) but at this rate i will not have the ppl i need to play with(nor building a team for locals and special events)
