It’s a really versatile and reliable knife. I keep one with my bug out bag since it works well as a self defense tool in addition to everything else.

While i love the sp5 its a great big knife that handles like a machete, it doesent have the weight needed for larger work and the full flat grind makes it stick when batoning, my kabar kukri still out chops it and even out performs my cs tomahawks, even the rifleman hawk which is twice the weight, that forward curve on kukris makes a huge difference.

You are supposed to secure it around your leg. Thats why it's hard to draw.

Nice review of that large knife. I find too often people attempt to use a large knife like they would an axe. They're missing the point if they view the knife like that. Your views for large knife usage are correct. J m h o

BK9 is probably my favorite among my big choppers for my needs but the SP5 is a decent knife. I have the Esee Junglas, Ontario RD9, Ontario Kukri, Ontario SP5 and Kabar BK9. Technique, sharpness, angle of your edge, grind and task will always be the factor with big blades. All too often people blame a knife for coming up short when they really chose the wrong knife for the task...
SP5 for me is like a jack of all trades kind of knife. The SP5 will get the job done and you will be well served by it no doubt.

The BK9 is an excellent knife. Very hard to beat it!

Will it peel potatoes or cut bacon? How about rope?
