Any band or person with the brass balls to cover Nick Drake has my respect. And it’s a nice arrangement.
Thank you for honoring Nick Drake with your talent. ☺
It's nearly impossible to pull off a full band cover of an acoustic piece, let alone a NICK DRAKE piece... and they pull it off amazingly. Thank you for keeping it sparse and magical, it's lovely!
Oh my GOD!!! How could she be more incredible???!!! Pink Moon is one of my favorite songs on earth and with her VOOOIIICCEEE
Sorry, I’m late to the party - what a stunning performance of this fragile and dare I say, holy, song. Bravo to all!
I always thought there was a little but gentle anger in Drake's line - "None of you stand so tall". Simply loved how the singer stressed this, like a line from her own life, too.
Sweeeet
Nick is smiling just like I am.
🙏🙏🙏❤️
She did it justice, well done.
Love this lady and her beautiful gift❤️
Excellent. She found the rhythm in it while also staying true to the soft, haunting spirit of the original. Well done!
Thank you for this. I’m in tears with your rendition
I met her back in 1997 when I working at a music store, she is super classy! Would have spent the entire day with her if I could. Great song, thanks for posting!
It's the right way to cover a brilliant song, bring something fresh and beautiful to the track..
From Nick Drake to Meshell... Just BRILLIANT...
I heard her sing this in Oakland at the Heart and Soul Fest around the time this was recorded. It was summer yet freezing, but nothing mattered but the singer and song.
Yeah, summers do get a bit chilly in the Bay Area ... much to my surprise, back in '72. 😅
This was a beautiful rendition.
Thank you to everyone
Wow. Me'shell Ndegeocello does a superb cover of Nick Drake. There is a God.
There sure is!
Love the original but love this interpretation of the song! The bass and drums add some much to the song
I think it would be very hard to do a Nick Drake song and come out on top, but man! She's got real soul and voice. She also really knows how to chose her musicians too as they're all great. I love her bass playing too! This gal is going places! I'm coming back here! Subscribed too! Thanks for making this video, sharing your talent!
Thank you. I've loved you and I've also loved Nick Drake for a long time. So having you perform Nick Drake and this song makes me very happy. Another example of the power of music to sooth us and bend time.
A lovely version of a great song - thank you... ☝️😎
Beautiful and loving rendition of Nick Drake’s classic song. Nicely done.
Absolutely awesome interpretation. Best cover I've ever heard. The drums are great as well as the sparing bass and atmospheric keys.
Ive been talking about pink moon on my channel all month so the algorithm has blessed me with this video 😆 soo good!!
Truly a deep artists... Love her beyond words...
Wow! Nice version that still keeps the spirit of the original.
absolutely love this cover. brought the song back to life.
Wow! I return here! I didn't want this to end! Meshell, vocals and instrumentation, sets the austere mystifying tone, tops! All the musicians are at the peak of their artistry. Such a tight and synchronized group! Percussions, all! I love too the base line and the keyboard is ethereal. You should have millions of hits! Thanks for sharing such talent!
ANYONE ELSE HERE 🙋🏼 HAVING A MESHELL NDEGEOCELLO MARATHON OF UA-cam VIDEOS, SONGS I LOVE THIS WOMAN ♀️ SHES BADASS!!!!
I love finding out that my favorite artists have such an eclectic taste in music. I love this cover. Me'shell, you bad!
Beautiful, respectful. Miss you Nick, everybody sends their love.
I love this version. I discovered it a few years ago just when the pandemic lock-down started. It was April and there was an actual Pink Moon scheduled. I sent a link to a bunch of friends. Luckily, we all made it through, unlike some I used to know.
Great version! Nick Drake is a genius. This voice is beautifull, also this band.
Magnificent! 2:20 - 2:45 is superb. My ringtone now. The number of people who have asked what it is are legend.
I knew it when hearing your last work the spirit of Nick Drake just did flow around
Beautiful cover... love that song
Thanks for sharing this... what a great version 😍
Thank you. I love his music.
Lovey Cover x
nice tribute to a uniquely beautiful song.
Thank you
Beautiful ❤️
what a nice rendition of pink moon. Very well done..
Wow, this is beautiful.
Brilliant rendition!
Beautiful! They could play this ten times as long and variations it's such a well written song. I like the subtle keyboard insights too! A very talented one, Meshell, and every artist expressing their souls in this sonic wonder.
Would love to hear her cover the whole album.
VERY VERY Cool cover. I love this!
This reminds me so much of John Martyns work in the 70s, another Island Records legend who remains underappreciated. In reality, Nick didn't have a lot going for him in his music career and he suffered from severe depression. Eventually, after the lack of success of his last effort, he gave up music completely. He was practically unheard of until 20 years after his passing nonetheless I do love this take on Nick's masterpiece.
Didn't Pink Moon gain some traction in his lifetime?
@@bennohulsing4326 Not at all. It wasn't until his albums were reissued on CD that he began to gain traction, in the early to mid 90s, then again in the early 00s. He was practically unknown during his lifetime and died almost destitute, apart from a small residual paid by Island out of pity really.
@@merlinmediagroup ahh I didn't know that. The first time I heard a Nick Drake song was in the Royal Tenenbaums so that time period sounds about right
Wonderful song and original is hard to beat with its elegantly haunting beauty. For a fun version that amps up the melody after the chorus try sebadoh‘s take on it. This one loses none of the gorgeous melody of the original and forms up the delicately awesome rhythm of Nick Drake’s uncanny strumming! This is a fantastic cover!
One of the best if not the best Nick Drake cover I have ever heard. Love it.
An absolutely incredible rendition. Brava!
FWIW, there is quite a bit of debate about whether he committed suicide. Many close friends said that in the weeks leading up to his death, he actually was on an upturn and was feeling positive. In fact, one close friend described those weeks as a "lunge for life," as he had seen Nick making a solid go at it. The coroner, of course, officially stated it was death by intentionally taking too many pills. However, even with that there is some disputing - his dad, mom, and sister, weren't 100% sure what some of the medicines he was taking were for. It seemed the entire family was a bit confused about them and the proper dosage. There is a book being written about his life and the author has seen the note Nick gave to his fiance Sophia and he said the note expressed a sadness about the breakup but said the note didn't read like a suicide note.
In the end, only Nick knows.
Nick is one of many world-changing artists that died too early (whether by suicide, accidental overdoes, or accident) and left the world robbed of a massive repertoire of songs. Can you imagine the music we would have heard from Amy Winehouse, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Randy Rhoads, Cliff Burton, Buddy Holly, Elvis, Jim Morrison, Robert Johnson, Kurt Cobain, etc.?
I've never heard the song but now I want to.
Awesome! What a great artist she is! :-)
I just love this!!
Well done you.
That was good - 🌝
BRAVO!!!
very cool, thank you meshell!
nick never wanted fame like many true artists.
I love the two artists so i'm in joy.
Heart and soul, spiritual, moving, beautiful
Masterpiece.
A beautiful cover.
Love this, hopefully one day I can find her covering some Elliot Smith too!
I love Meshell 😩
Brilliant. I love this whole thing. A whole new angle.
So much passion in this song.
Nice cover.
Best cover yet
Love Meshell and Nick Drake :-)
Take the good and bad with life and anything can be improved. I'm still bedazzled awed by nix music I had a dream everyone in a hall was listening to him library but grand
It didn't really need to be done but, that said, this is an incredibly respectful and loving cover.
Well, well done, M.
Worthy of the "Sons of Anarchy" soundtrack.
Gave me goosebumps 😊
Beautiful.
love the song and this is a nice interpretation. like it a lot
love it
Amazing ❤❤❤
Very cool rendition to a unique song from a unique artist
Verrrrrrry interesting cover. Original. Armatrading-like.
Yay. Someone knows Armatrang! (Do you also know who Phoebe Snow is, perhaps?)
Wow!
Everybody is playing exactly what they should play. Lots of space.
Great stuff man!
Great tribute
Only one to reach my cold heart
Wicked bass! This version makes me think the piano part would be great played on a steel drum... Unfortunately I have absolutely ZERO musical ability!
Please record this, Me'shell!
Nick Drake did die almost 50 years ago( November) Hope you will do a special tribute 🫶🏼🤞🏼
beautiful cover :)
amazing
Perfect.
Lived the vocals and the funky bass lines. The drums added a cool vibe but were mixed in a little too loud. Nice job on a hard to cover song!
Nice one
very cool
Really good
💓💓
My baby
Thanks for the session and for making it available to all of us. I would just like to offer a critique that Me'Shell's bass is the star of any show she's in and so I personally feel she's about 5-6db to low in the mix, the drums are too high and as a result are eating the beautiful ambient frequencies of the guitar tone. Vocals sound nice but as is often the case with amazing vocals, they sit just a little hot in the mix for my taste, leaving the instrumentation to sound somewhat distant.
Who the Ef am I though? Just an honest critique from another musician looking to make the world a liveable place. Cheers!
Hi Lane. You're an idiot with cloth ears.
11 April 2017 the pink moon will be,big and,full....
Brave, respectful and brilliant interpretation. Many thanks. I had trouble with the drums in the mix..too thick. Nick didn't really do drums. Congas better ? Keep it simple. Lovely all the same. All the best, Meshell n Co.
What's with the blurring of the Red Sox cap?
They would have to pay to have it in the video.
