As a Czech citizen in middle pay group I'll explain how ppl live in Prague/outside of Prague.
Our average payment monthly is around 800-900 USD after taxes. (Prague is around 1000USD average.) Apartment with two rooms in Prague costs around 600-700USD. I'm not joking. Living alone without roommate or spouse is almost impossible when you're not making tons of money. At least we are mostly humble and in shared apartment you can pay rent around 300 USD. We have health and social insurance paid by our employer or government if we are looking for job actively. You can live very cheap but going out for drink and eating out is expensive if you wanna make sure you're not eating in fast food. Transportation is cheap. I have card for transport and charge subscription every 3 months for 57USD. Most of the ppl living in Prague spend most of their money for eating out, entertainment and shopping in general. Now I'm talk mostly about ppl who lives alone without family to take care of. We are very spoild. But there are of course way how to very effectively save a lot of money.

I imagine that to build a Family, four members, Parents and two children, Prague is a very expensive place in relation to the average salaries and prices there. Like We say in my country: "Evil of many is consolation for fools", but is happen around all the planet. Prices are rising quickly than salaries, specially apartments and houses. Sud but true.

2000CZK monthly gym membership:)......... mate, Prague is hilly! I have been doing a 6 km walk each day for last year as my 'stay fit routine' ..... I lost 12kg over a year just doing my daily walks ...... save o the gym membership and as a bonus you get some 'sightseening' every day.

Health insurance is taken from brutto salary, but you will pay medicine and health treatment more.
I pay $520/month & my employer pays $1,100/month for health insurance. And that's with a $2,000 deductible/person.

i'm living in Toronto, and to live comfortably you need 4500 CAD a month, this includes housing, food, and all expenses for the month. I find it is very affordable

@ for a family of three its a minimum just rent will cost you half of that in Toronto
1200 USD is actually more than an average monthly salary of a Prague person :-) *sad* That's why people call us cheap skates when we're visiting other countries, most of Czech people cannot really afford it to just "let go" and enjoy vacation when we end up paying your whole monthly salary for just 2-3 days of holiday elsewhere. Most of us anyway... Especially the older generation. Most young people are just fine.

PS: O2 is operator for bussiness guys, it's not good for common people, they have terrible offer of only data tarifes, we don't need unlimited calling, it's not 2005 :-) and that 1,5GB (they have 3GB now) with unlimited tarif for 749 Kč is ridiculous, Vodafone has 5GB for same price and you can deal only data with good price for minute of calling

looking at these prices, Czech republic has actually very high wages compared to the prices. That's incredible. Yeah I'm originally from Prague now in Osaka. Here in Osaka, the wages are almost the same as in Prague but the prices are WAY higher. Young Japanese people are much poorer than young Czechs for sure. E.g. A monthly ticket in Prague 550CZK. In Osaka 4,000 CZK , income is the same or lower here (higher minimum wage but lower high skilled wages. No wonder Japan has had like no economic growth in 20+ years.

Just keep in mind that median income (50% of people have more, and 50% of people have less money) for 2018 was about 1125 $ / 990 € netto. So you should be fine with that.

Also, in Prague the average income is about 20.000 EUR per annum (42,000 CZK per month). Are you seriously noting taxes? of course what country doesnt pay tax? well you are a child so you wouldnt' know.
@@いちごくん-l6d what do you mean? Yeah of course average income is 42k czk brutto. But 65% of people living in Prague have less then the average. Also like 1/3 of the salary is taxes and other stuff. So median netto income is better for comparison. So the average person who lives in Prague have around 1k € for month and its enough for basic needs.
That is a national median. In any capital city, including PRG, the avg and median salary is substanitially higher than the national average.
Billa is the most expensive supermarket here. Lidl is the cheapest I think. Anyway, salaries in CZ are really bad, food is expensive, living - rents are VERY expensive. What is very good about CZ is that you get great healthcare. I live here and I love this coutry due to beautiful cities and nature, but you cant live a luxurious life here (if you have a normal job). I would prefer living in Austria or Germany
I visited your country in the beginning of june and seriously, for me, food is quite cheap. I went to Billa most of the time and for everything I purchased, the bill was low comparing to Canada! :)

Katrine B yes, but what is your salary in Canada? I believe that for foreigners it is cheap, but our standard salary is around 700 to 1000 Euro/ month (not talking about Prague). Rental of a small flat (lets say 60 m2) is around 500 eur/month. living here is not very good, mainly for young people. Only health care is good.

I paid almost 670$ for a 30square meter apartment with not even 2m high roof outside of the centre of a small city (70 000 people) in Sweden before buying an apartment.
25$ is like the price for 1 main course at a not so highend restaurant here... no drink...
Well you have to consider average salary in Czechia and Sweden. I think the salary in Sweden is like 3 times higher...

However, i don’t know about salary differenses in czechia.
In sweden they are very big. Just looking among people i know…. I know people with as little as €1350 before tax for a full time job and also people with over €8000 before tax.
Roughly after tax you’ll get €1000 from the first and €5000 from the second. And that is only people i know

George has no budget for holidays , consumer durables , retirement fund , hobbies etc . He will have to share his apartment or move further out. Cafes are not essential . Rent is so high in Prague because of building restrictions to protect the historic look of the city .

Rents are cheaper in small towns outside Prague. Prague 3 is not exactly cheap in terms of rents.

It is possible to live for about 500USD, but around 1000 USD you are OK. It is over median net (because we pay about 50% in taxes, social and health insurance) salary in here.
Numbeo currently lists an average 1 bedroom apartment in the city center as going for around $855 avg price and other expenses including food,utilities, etc. at about $711/mo. Does that sound about right - that means to cover basic expenses living in the city you'd need about $18,500/year.

God I wanna move there if I can find a good job. It looks like a very lovely city. Here in the states, health insurance is the main cause of financial problems. Young professionals like me (who don’t have any preexisting conditions) have to pay at least $250 a month for health insurance. The cost of living where I live (downtown Seattle) is very high. A studio apartment in an older building cost starts at $1100 a month. In newer buildings, a studio costs $1600 or more. Does anyone know if interior design jobs in Prague is competitive? If so, I’d definitely consider moving!!! 😂

What? We don't have any private health insurance, it works nothing like in the US. We have a single payer system, not the public option. What private health insurance means here is that if you have an accident, you get a check from the insurance company so you can cover your expanses while you are unable to work. I have many friends in the expat community who have been living here for years and none of them had to choose a private healthcare plan, because there isn't any.
I know, but if someone wanted to get one they could and would have to pay that amount.

There is no private insurance that you'd buy, there's a single "account", to which all the companies pay certain amount of money taken from the payroll. There are no exceptions and it has to be done like that. If you are unemployed, you don't pay anything and you are still covered. If you "work for yourself" you still pay for the health insurance to the government, not a private health insurance company, ever.

no, sry it is not true, goofy is quite confused :-) thing is that it is very important difference when you are citizen or not. truly public insurance is just for citizens. insurance for foreigners is not as good unless you are long term or permanent resident which still could vary. but you find most of info via web on sites of foreign police or so. i am not any expert and it could changed but you are correct in your video. but there are more options it is hard to generalize it. life saving aid is for everybody anyway, even for tourists...

czech republic has the lowest poverty rate among European countries, european statistical data shows , the average EU28 poverty rate is 17.1 %, CZ is 9,6 % data for 2018 year, back in 2007 or before the economic crises the poverty rate in EU27 or Euro area was 16 % or lower. In neighbour Slovakia poverty rate was 12 % in 2018 year , also among lowest in EU
you must know about the Czech Republic that you may be perjury convicted, without being able to defend yourself in court without knowing that there is a lawsuit against you. You will find out about the court decision, with a sentence "without the possibility of appeal", when your bank accounts are blocked and you will receive a decision on the execution of your sentence. Anything on the current state of justice and law in the Czech Republic cannot be changed, as it would be punished by the European Union as a violation of the rule of law. This is my own experience from 2018 in the Czech Republic.😀👍

Not 90% (except business), I can say around 40-50% people understand and can speak, downtown and tourists area more - maybe 80-90%. But English "growing up" along with our people....... It will be better and better.
