I just use Urza avatar, The One Ring pet and Ugin animated sleeves for everything. But yes, I do play blue a lot. And I'm also named Daniel. I do hope I make this dojo proud.
Love this guy. He hypes everyone on this Boros convoke pile, attempting to establish it as the meta, and then follows up with a control list to deal specifically to that Boros pile. GG CGB ya evil mf.
So impressive that you've crafted a control deck agile enough for this turbo-charged meta. I can't wait to return to my control ways after taking refuge in commander for so long.
Excellent gameplay as always, we can't get enough of The One™ playing the Dojo's special, thank you very much ex Florida man ! I truly hope you will find the balance you seek between what you love doing and what works on youtube, I've started doing my part by adding the likes & comments on your videos since you've published that one talk video a few days ago, hope more people join me and maybe together we can help you stay longer, and if not, we support whatever choices makes you happy, because you do make us happy. You're cool.
I think Faithful Mending is one of the best friends of control mages in Bo1. I recall that all of my cases of super winrates with UW or Esper control (like 80-90% in 20+ games) were with that card included. It gives so much stability when you have cards which are super good vs agro but bad vs control and vice versa. Also helps a lot with hitting lands. And only stability in the deck grants good WR in the long run.
Blue white control is what CGB enjoys most in Arena Standard, so I hope you enjoyed making the video. I still watch CGB even though I gave up on Arena. Without spoiling, I wanted the last player to show more of their deck as I’m not super familiar with Standard anymore.
You had been talking about making some "different" videos to add some variety to your daily grind. I would personally find it really interesting for you to record some really challenging games with this deck and then give a "control master class" on your decision-making step by step in those games. Pause the gameplay. Talk through scenarios in a little more detail than you have time to do in the midst of the Arena ticking clock, etc. When you play control, you make so many choices that I (an infrequent and lousy control player) would never make. I'm sure some others feel similarly. Much to learn.
@@covertgoblue You're probably right. I guess the question is whether ensuring you keep having fun and avoid burn out making content warrants occasionally taking an engagement hit to put out a cool video that a subset of your fans/subs would really love and, most importantly, you would really enjoy making. (That's more of a general point than just my particular idea. I imagine you might like making a "control master class" sort of video, but I'm certainly not presuming to speak for you.)
My favorite part of your videos is listening to you talk about your decision making process. I love it sometimes when you let the rope burn and think! Especially when you're telling us what you're deciding upon. I've played Magic for a long time, but am constantly amazed at how much you know about each and every opponent's deck!
Nice deck. I’m currently trying to make a deck focused around Etrata, Vein Ripper, and other assassins to build board up with etrata, wipe with deadly cover up with vein ripper on the board and watch life total drop.
You really are the one in best of one! What a beautiful construction and beautiful games! I love this. Played with the deck already and it's so smooth.
Man, that match that starts at 23:27 was like watching someone ace the final boss of Magic. From like turn 3 all they did was slam rares and mythic rares every single turn. It was just all gas, no breaks from then on. I know rarity isn't everything, but what kind of luck do you have to have to line that many must-answer threats up in a row and still lose? Damn, he's good.
March is so good. I actually run 4 of it in my historic uw control (and yes, I keep reaching mythic with it), it’s 1/2 mana removal a lot of the time that’s good in every matchup. And the exile is definitely relevant.
I truly dislike blue/white control from the bottom of my heart. But darn it, I love seeing you play it with such awareness and brilliance. Such a well-built deck in a format that seems to want to dishearten all (blue-based) control decks. And while this sample was fantastic to see I imagine Boros humans and mono red can still frustrate the deck if you didn't draw the right counters. Great content CGB, you're cool!
I actually went against this deck earlier today. I'm 100% sure it was not against you because I didn't geek out. I ALMOST beat it with a high creature count mono red deck. Dissipate and Lockdown did annoy the poo out of me. Ultimately, it was the Wandering Emperor + Restless Anchorage was the killer though.
Hey CGB pumped for the updated UW control, felt bad when I watched your 'retire' video how burnt out that this standard format has made you. Just wanted to give my support and echo what many others have said is that you should just play what you enjoy and that the true fans will follow you... cheers man!
Thank you CGB for yet another fun Control piece. Watching your gameplay has improved my game tremendously. This deck will take nerves of steel but I’ll give it a whirl. Cheers!
1 copy of sunfall, 1 copy of farewell. 3/4 games at least one shows up on curve. In 2/4 games both show up on curve. Truly, there is nothing wrong with the shuffler.
I been trying something along this line, but imo counterspells simply dont cut it, they help a lot in the odd chance you go against another jace mill strat, but 99% of the time they are dead cards against the critter vomit the meta has devolved even further into. Much better to just stock up on the new 4 mana wrath and wipe the board 2 or three times in a row.
Hi nice deck, i know u say its for BO1 but what i can do if i want to use in BO3?, change faithful mending for quick study?, i like the deck because its no soooo expensive, i wanna use to play at the next FNM in my local store, any advice i appreciate!
Did I miss something, even if temporary lockdown gets hit by Leyline binding it still technically ETBs correct? Because those were tokens so upon exile they cease to exist, so even if it temporary lockdown is immediately answered the tokens are still gone correct?
What if you put in a pair of esper triomes and a swamp or something so that you could cut jace for an outrageous robbery? I feel like that's still probably fine since you only want to play robbery on turn 20 or something like that? More experienced players, where is the hole in that plan?
g1 when they put down the land, called angel, and cast archangel, you could have field of ruined the land, let it resolve, and then dissipated the angel and kept your planeswalkers (if you wanted to keep em)
@@konithomimo Right. You would have to destroy it at upkeep for your own turn to prevent it from being used, but even then you can't stop it the turn they drop it.
This is gonna sound so astronomically stupid but I've been watching you for like 4-5 years and just noticed your name was Covert, not Convert, lmao I thought you were trying to get more people to play blue this whole time
I see mythic mindgames for card sleeves and avatars having no thematic ties to the actual deck are alive and well 😂
I just use my Favorite avatar, and the latest sleeve and companion. Quite unassuming no matter what I play on ladder. Brawl, absoLUTELY be themed out
I just use Urza avatar, The One Ring pet and Ugin animated sleeves for everything.
But yes, I do play blue a lot. And I'm also named Daniel. I do hope I make this dojo proud.
Why would someone let you know what there playing lol
Chandra and red sleeves, Esper control all the way
I assume my opponents are always monored.
Love it. Another easy craft; most of the new cards I needed are uncommons, and the new rare lands I just put in a couple more basics.
Hope you don't mean the creature lands, cause those can easily make a difference between winning or loosing.
@@fastydave How about you learn respect first, sounds good?

It's funny, this control deck popped up and lost to me making mirrex tokens constantly.
Field of Ruin didn't take out your Mirrex?
@@erickschusterdeoliveira2662 wasted on Treasure Map//Treasure Cove
Deal with boros convoke and yet not one game was shown against it.

@32:15 Such an epic moment when The Wandering Emperor said, "Hope you're ready to lose" and then they scooped.

Holy shit the BUT CGB skit with the glasses I am done. Totally cooked me with that one. 😂😂😂😂
behold cgb in his natural habitat!
The "NO QUESTIONS!" part of the intro has quickly become one of the parts I look forward to the most!
These are by far the most exciting magic games ive seen in ages!
I really liked that mono black deck, it was like aggro plus cards for grinding
I've been supporting before, when this omnipotent being took questions 😂🎉❤
that first game was just a perfect control-mage match, perfectly executed, never didn't have it. It was beautiful to watch
I don't like to use blue/white control, but I like watching YOU use blue/white control
This was the best intro in a while
Most impressive to witness. Still waiting for a Dimir Robbery/Jace deck to rip your opponents decks to shreds.
I bet that mono black deck has realmbreaker for ramp. Plus popping it eventually for double shelly.
I'll be honest I really don't like playing control or playing against it, but watching CGB torture other players with it is incredibly entertaining

Would love a UW control update if you have one!
Oh! I played against this with a UB control list. Stomped it. Deadly cover up’d all the win cons. Outrageously robbed for the win. It was fun
And this deck took me to goooooooold!!!! lol
Funny how the "new" control is almost exactly the same as the "old" control. Magic really is a full game
