Penn State Makes College Football Playoffs if Drew Allar Improves at QB

- Penn State football will make the college football playoffs if quarterback Drew Allar improves from 2023. It is time for him to live up to his 5-star billing. His 25 touchdown - 2 interception ratio was great last year. The problem is he would not or could not throw deep and stretch the defense. Allar may not have taken chances because of overbearing coaching. Or he may not have been able to go long because Penn State football did not have a speedy game breaking wide receiver.
HIGHER GOALS FOR PENN STATE FOOTBALL
Could 2024 be different for Penn State football? James Franklin hired a new offensive coordinator who loves motion and multiple formations and that may help Allar read the defense better. Going into his second season as a starter in Happy Valley Allar needs to take an aggressive step forward.
EASIER SCHEDULE?
There is another blessing that will help Penn State. They don't play Michigan this college football season. Back to back 10-2 seasons were great. But the two losses always came at the hands of Michigan and Ohio State. Plus, with a 12 team expanded playoffs, another 10-2 season gets them into the tournament. We will break down the Nittany Lions 2024 college football schedule and predict how things will shake out in the Big Ten!
We also have the latest recruiting news but it is not all good for James Franklin and Penn State.
RUNNING BACK POWER RANKINGS
Finally, we post our midweek Power Rankings. Since we talked so much about Penn State football today and they happen to have a great running back tandem, we decided to rank Big Ten running backs on Locked on Big 10 with Craig Shemon.

Schedule sets up for 10 to 11 wins which is nice.
You hit the nail on the head. The offense must play better. I think Allar will have a breakout season. Take the reigns off of him. Let him play his game.
That’s right. Let it rip!! #WeAre!
With the new OC, trust me Drew Allar will be a star 🌟!!!! WE ARE
From this Michigan fan pennstate offense couldnt have been worse last year stunting the development of allar.. dude has a ton of potential just has to have a semi competent OC.....
Agreed, as a die hard Nittany Lions 🦁 fan, I think the new OC can get the offense fixed, and Drew will shine!!! WE ARE
@kevinchandler179 we shall see... a drunk homeless guy is a better OC then the guy from last year but how much better is Andy we shall see....
@@thetruth1816 Agreed, hopefully 🙏 things are better!!! Lol
Have a good night 😴
@kevinchandler179 you as well dude....
For the love of god thank you. I am so sick of my dumbass Penn State fanbase who can’t recognize Yurchich’s offense was terrible. EVERYONE knew we were running on 1st and 2nd down and throwing on 3rd. Our route concepts were a fucking joke, and it was brutal to watch
I think Tawee Walker will surprise everyone. However because he'll split time with Mellusi, his numbers may not put him at the top. However, by the end of the season, if we rank RB duos, then I think my Badgers will be in the top 5.
I'm really looking forward to this season just because of the four new teams.
Me too.
Kyle Monangai will ROCK the B1G again. Strong, deep running back room should add to and support his success.
Yurich was ratws a good OC-but flamed out New guy needs to prove with this talant-slow QB
Gary we are focusing on Rutgers on Friday’s Podcast! Tell your friends 👍
@@LockedOnBIG10 Craig, I've already shared the Friday pod with another Class of '65 former RU football player. 10-2? I'm agog! Love your enthusiasm, and will root for you to be more accurate than my hopeful 8-4 guess. To quote Schiano, "Keep chopping!"
11-1 at worst!!! WE ARE
Jordan James did transfer, but it was last year.
👍
If just the WRs are decent enough to be called WRs Allar will improve lol. They were basically non -existent last year!
He legit has nobody to pass to but one receiver
True.
@@CroTonicthen go watch the highlights and watch the wide open throws that were missed…
@@Jrm-xs9qiwhat you said doesnt make what the comment said untrue
Tom Brady can scramble better than Drew Allar, and I mean Tom Brady now, not Tom Brady in his early twenties
Ouch.
Not true!!!! Drew Allar can tuck it and run when he has to, and run over people!!!! WE ARE
99% of the PSU issue reside at the top-Franklin has to be better...and he is not capable of this task.
Ouch.
Such a casual take. Sandy Barbour was the problem. Franklin consistently fought for Penn state direct more resources to football but it wasn’t until Sandy left and we got a real athletic director that they listened. The biggest thing Franklin has been bad at is inconsistent OC hires. He’s nailed defensive but now this year he went out and threw a bag at one of the best OC’s in the country
@@johnmiller1404a offensive of coordinator who played in a conference with zero defense yeah okay buddy lay off the kool aid
@@johnmiller1404let’s go look at how many coordinators Franklin has gone through in his 10 years because it’s like a box of tic tacs💀
@@Jrm-xs9qi he was literally runner up for the best coordinator of the year last year. He also completely turned Kansas offense around…Kansas, a team that was previously god awful
Drew Allar might be better to stick around another year but I think he's not only entering the draft but if he has a solid year wins the big 10 then makes it to the final 8 or better I think the Steelers are going to scoop him up since all 3 of their QB's contracts end this next season.
Interesting.
Drew goes undrafted and pennstate misses the playoff 🔒
Ouch.
PSU will never be to OSU or Mich level…. Unfortunately
Never?
They could get there but there are hurdles. A lot of boosters are really stubborn. They hate Franklin and hate that Penn State took down the Joe Pa statue. If they got on board, Penn States NIL would be much much better. Penn state also graduates more CEO’s than pretty much any other FBS schools. And Penn state has tons of connections to massive markets in NYC, Philly, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and DC area. There’s a lot of potential for them but if we continue to go down the route of highest bidder winning half the recruiting battles, then it’d be tough for a school like Penn state who has unsupportive boosters. They have to figure out a way to get them on board
YES-one step below them NO WR's speed to stretch field at all
